We stayed for a weekend while we were in Long Island for a wedding. It was off season, so the community was very quiet and peaceful, great for walks to the bay. The town of Mastic Beach gives the feeling of old towne. The house and furnishings were nice, with only a few tweeks necessary to make it awesome, e.g., the yard was kind of a mess. All in all, it was a good experience.
Immaculately clean and supplied with everything needed. Linen closet in bathroom had towels packaged for use at the beach, refrigerator had english muffins, jelly, sugar, cremora and coffee, and there was a box of candy mints on the kitchen table. What a nice unexpected gift. Loved the decor. It was perfect. We had 3 dogs with us, 5 lbs, 10 lbs, and 15 lbs that loved the yard. Plenty of room for the dogs to run and we also parked our 25 ft RV in the yard. We stayed for a week and John (the owner) came over and joined us outside for coffee and local stories. He was delightful and we enjoyed his company so much. He did not interfere, he just was a lot of fun. The neighborhood was quiet and we felt very safe. So many stores are near by to get everything needed and the beach right down the road. Would recommend this lovely home to anyone wanting to visit Long Island.
We stayed at the house for 10 days during July. To sum it up, it was a really nice stay and also the owner Mr. Heyer was very nice and supportive. It was the first time I had personal vis-a-vis chats with an owner in all the years booking over this platform.
The house is in very good condition, it was very clean and all the things you need are there. The dining table should in fact be bigger and the master bedroom is probably the smallest of all three (I did not measure) which is a bit confusing (I would change it to the other side and put a king bed in instead), but overall the house is nicely furnished and of good size. Unfortunately we had some ridiculous hot nights with temperatures staying at 85 until the early morning which made me wish, the house had an air condition. But we solved it somehow with the fans placed in the house. But despite that replacing the polyester sheets with cotton sheets would be a nice move.
I would have liked a couple of comfortable garden chairs a lot and gave this enhancement proposal to Mr. Heyer. The lot itself is big and nice with the big trees. We used it a lot and left some play equipment for the next ones.
The neighborhood is good and quiet(despite of the idiotic siren of the firehouse) with nice neighbors. We felt absolutely secure.
Having a car, shopping was no problem. Locally there are some shops on Neighborhood Rd but we did not shop or eat there. A CVS is on the corner of Neighborhood Rd and William Floyd Pkwy and more shops and chain restaurants in Shirley which is a short drive over William Floyd Rd to Montauk Hwy.
Mastic Beach itself isn't worth the trip from my point of view despite of the nice Smith Point Beach (live music at the hut) which was red flagged the day we were there and probably the William Floyd Home which we did not visit. A nice very little intracoastal beach for little kids is (also not in Mastic Beach) Webby's Beach in Center Moriches.
But a big plus is the location. It is absolutely perfect to visit the whole island as you are as fast in the Hamptons as you are at Adventure Island, Deer Park or Riverhead Outlet/Splish Splash or wherever you want to go.
Stay here! It's very good.
Exactly as the pictures describe the home. Beautiful home. There is nothing to do outside the home in the neighborhood. Be prepared to hang out in the huge backyard or inside the house. We went during the winter. The couch is not comfortable to sleep on, bring your own air mattress if you are sleeping more than 6.
We had such a nice time at this house!! It was perfect for my parents who are handicapped because it was all one floor!!
There are a few things, though, that would have made our visit even better that I was not aware of until we arrived.
We like to cook together and the kitchen was pretty well-stocked and nice and roomy! They do need to add a cheese grater and some measuring cups. The house sleeps 8, comfortably 6. The kitchen table was too small for 5 adults and one child but the kitchen itself is big enough for them to put a bigger table in there or perhaps they can put a leaf in the table that they have.
It would be so nice if there was more than one bathroom and access to a washer and dryer - but we made it work.
If your family likes to watch TV beware there is NO cable. When we called the owner to ask what we were doing wrong he promptly came over to inform us that there was one channel (he lives really close by) The rest of the channels were in Spanish. My sports loving family was a little disappointed by that. In 2015, I assume that there would be basic cable provided.
There is a gas grill but no way to have a fire outside. Because there is no fireplace inside the house, I would have loved for there to be an outside firepit or fire bowl. Especially since we visited in the chilly fall.
There are three bedrooms and only one of them had a queen-sized bed. The others have two twin beds. The room with the queen bed is totally set up backwards. This room has a dresser and a chest of drawers in it - totally overcrowded - while the other bedrooms have no dresser at all. When you walk into the bedroom with the queen bed, the bed is RIGHT in front of the door. You can hardly get into the room. The bed needs to be moved to the opposite wall and one of the dressers needs to be moved to another bedroom. All bedrooms do have closets.
I think two bedrooms with a queen bed and one with twins would be ideal. Or even better, one King room, one queen and then one room with two twins. I did see that in one closet they had a pack-and-play available which would be nice for a family with a baby :)
I am giving this property 4 out of five stars because overall our experience was great. There are just a few small things that need to be addressed. And maybe by the time you visit those changes will have already been made!!
I hope this review was helpful to you. Enjoy Mastic Beach!
An easy 2hour drive from city, 5min drive to Smith Point Beach which was perfect for our 2 girls ages 8 and 12.
The house was great with nice breeze and had everything we needed, also used grill and ate on porch which was lovely.
