Oxford Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Oxford Condominium, 2BR, 2BA Pet Friendly

Resting underneath the protective Magnolia Canopy this aptly named 1890s condo/cottage is the antidote to escaping the city or suburbs. Nestled in the heart of Historic Oxford, in between Oxford Park and the Ferry, Magonlia Cottage is perfectly located in the water oriented village and will draw you back in time. You will love the darling front porch to watch the village happenings. Grab a bottle of wine, loaf of bread and cheese right down the street at McKelvy's market, bring bikes or rent some townie bikes and explore the village or jaunt across the Tred Avon River on the Oxford Bellevue Ferry. Grab a leash and walk your pooch around this dog centric town - stopping at the Wednesday seasonal farmer's market for trinkets, produce and the county's best ice cream. Both bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms provide privacy whether you are one or two couples, a small family or simply good friends looking to share a porch and a drink. A respite like no other, the perfect size 'not to small and not too Cottage is Just Right!

Most enjoyable. Lovely property and excellent location. A few minor housekeeping issues but they didn't spoil a very pleasant stay.

Reviewer Comments:

Had a health issue and we had to leave after only one day there. The name of the rental is a bit deceiving. It is not a cottage, but an apartment. There is an apartment directly above the bedroom. The occupant was moving furniture around and it was loud. If you are looking for a place to go to where you just want to sit and read, this place works. Would not recommend it for a family or two couples. There is only one TV and it is located in the bedroom. Not a lot to do in the town either. We thought there would be a "downtown" with some shops, restaurants, etc. There was only one restaurant and a small gift shop. Only got to spend a day there. But to be honest, we have no idea what we would have done for the remainder of the time if we had not had to leave.

Manager responded on 8/4/2014:

Sorry to hear about your health issue. You are absolutely correct that Magnolia Cottage is a condo in a 4 unit restored historic building. 2 of the tenants are not full time and have the units as getaways from the city. Oxford does have some great restaurants - waterfront Pier Street and Schooners - with music certain nights. Folks love the crab cakes at Salters Tavern at the Robert Morris Inn and Popes Tavern is known for its soft crabs with succotash. Don't forget Latitudes which is as you come into town (look for the restaurant with the gas pump) as well as Scottish Highland Creamery -voted best ice cream on the shore. The folks that love Oxford enjoy the less touristy aspect of the village - more locals, waterfront parks and the town beach. For a day trip to St Michaels most take the Ferry but then return to the quieter village. Our pleasure to help our guests determine if they are looking for a more active spot - perhaps St Michaels - or more of a "be where you are" type of vacation. We have choices for all.

Great Getaway at Magnolia Cottage

Reviewer Comments:

Magnolia Cottage was a delight! The property was clean and well-maintained and oozed charm. We spent hours on the wonderful front porch on the comfy couch, reading and watching the world go by. The master bedroom was large and airy, with excellent air conditioning. The kitchen, while small, was modern and well-equipped. We cooked most of our meals while there. Magnolia Cottage is in a prime location: five minutes from Oxford Market, where we walked each morning for the paper and their fabulous homemade muffins. We walked everywhere, to the restaurants, the ice cream place, and often took the ferry over to Bellevue and St. Michaels. The management company was terrific, answering all of our questions with friendliness and knowledge. We would definitely recommend Magnolia Cottage to family and friends! Our only regret is that we booked it for only one week!

Reviewer Comments:

We were looking forward to our stay at the cottage, spending time on the screen porch, hanging out watching TV at night, cooking simple meals in the well appointed kitchen. None of these things came true. The cottage is one of four condos in a building set right on the main street of Oxford. There is a patch of overgrown grass separating the road from the sidewalk from the front garden. We heard voices passing all day and night. The screen porch was filthy, had only a small rickety plastic table, some old furniture, a bicycle and a dusty plastic crate filled with the owner's belongings. The backyard had not been weeded or raked, the beds were overgrown and unpleasant. There was no paper explaining how things worked and that became a problem almost immediately. The a/c was at Arctic, and we were unable to adjust it, but could only turn it off. So we were either boiling or freezing. One night the bedroom was 88°F. But the most offensive of all was the skillet I pulled out of the cupboard that had been used to cook eggs. It had not been cleaned. I washed all the dishes and pots and pans at that point. We never did find the laundry. This was a terrible rental.

Manager responded on 7/28/2014:

Many thanks for letting us know of your concerns. Definitely sounds like Magnolia was not the right fit and perhaps a more private setting next time? Magnolia is listed as part of a condo unit with its own separate entrance. Folks who prefer this property enjoy the ambiance of main street Oxford - a sleepy waterfront town in MD. The back screened porch definitely is used more as a landing area vs. the front porch which is the spot to sit with a glass of wine and enjoy the historic ambiance. The a/c units are controlled by remotes so we will make sure that they are visible to all guests - thanks for letting us know you could not find them and huge apologies on the food residue on the frying pan - housekeeping does clean the home but inspecting each dish is not part of a weekly list. The laundry is located in the back of the unit as a separate entrance for all guests to use - quarters are required for the washing machine. The guests for whom Magnolia Cottage seem to be a good fit are those
