About Denis and Anastasia

We fell in love with Gore when we first skied it over 10 years ago. We have been skiing Gore every week for the last 5 years and both of our children race at Gore.

Denis and Anastasia purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Denis and Anastasia chose Gore Mountain

We have purchased Angler's Rest from the family that built it. From the minute we saw the mountain views available from every window we knew that this is the cabin we have been searching for.

What makes this cabin unique

There is just something special about Angler's Rest. From the moment you walk in and smell the White Pine that finishes the entire first floor, then see the spectacular views from the living room or swing in the front porch swing you will fall in love with this very special place. Front deck supports and railings were made from trees harvested on our property!

Nice Cabin in a Quiet Spot in the Adirondacks

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in this excellent cabin. The weather didn't cooperate and so it limited our enjoyment of outdoor activities; it was rainy with some severe storms. The cabin had backup power, which worked well for over 12 hours before the power came back on. There were other factors that dampened our experience. There is no Verizon cell phone service in this area of Bakers Mills. It is not the fault of the owners. The blame belongs on the Johnsburg Board of Supervisors, who have not put a demand on cell phone companies to provide service. AT&T cell service is available in the area, but not many people who vacation there subscribe to AT&T, which is poorly regarded in most areas. I suspect the Town of Johnsburg subscribes to AT&T and gets a cost-saving rate for not allowing Verizon to adjust their tower signal to cover a wider area. Additionally, the road from Wevertown corner to past Bakers Mills (Route 8) is one of the roughest in the State of NY. It has not been paved in several years, just patched by the State road crews. Again, there aren't many voters in Bakers Mills and Sodom, the two communities served by Route 8 access. So, there is no incentive for a cash-strapped state to adequately serve the citizens of Baker's Mills, even though the road is quite heavily travelled. Lastly, the cabin had Internet service, which was affected by the harsh weather and power outages, but worked well when it was up and running, which was the majority of our time spent there. Frontier cable was responsive in restoring service. But, to get access to streaming media of our choice, a smart TV was required. Fortunately we had one, so we were able to access Netflix and other programs without any difficulty. Lastly, we were able to do some excellent trout fishing in the area and the cabin is an ideal location to reach fishing areas and attractions (such as Great Escape). We are grateful to Anastasia and Denis for keeping in contact with us during the week and ensuring that our stay was as enjoyable as possible despite the weather. They worked with Frontier to restore Internet service, which saved the day for our grandkids, who avoided cabin fever with the TV access. In summary, we recommend Angler's Rest to others and would stay in this well-built cabin with a great view again.

Owner's Response: David and Mary, Thank you for such informative review and I am thrilled that the generator kicked in as we hoped since we never actually experienced such storm there ourselves but always knew it was a possibility. Hoping for better weather if you come again next summer! Anastasia and Denis

Great Place to Unwind

  • 5 of 5

Our group had a great time during our stay at this property. The location is beautiful, with awesome views of Gore Mountain and absolutely stunning views of the night sky. The house is newly built with all the amenities that a family with small children could need. The air hockey and ping pong tables were a huge hit with the kids. The house is very clean and all the of sleeping areas were comfortable. There's a great little town a few minutes away that has everything you need (grocery store, liquor store, pharmacy, etc.). Lake George is only 25 minutes away, which was a big plus for us.

The owner was very easy to deal with and she provided a very high level of service. We're already talking about making the trip again.

Beautiful cabin, beautiful view

  • 4 of 5

Pros:

We rent a cabin each year, and this was the nicest one we've done so far. All wood and logs from the inside and out, this one was also the most cabin-like. And all the necessary amenities were available.

Cons (even the best places have cons):

There is no regular trash pickup, so guests are required to take their trash back with them (there is a fee if left behind). This wasn't a big deal for us.

The cabin is located on a major road. It's not a noisy road, but cars do occasionally go by pretty fast, so best not to let pets or small children run loose.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review Chris, I am glad you enjoyed your stay! Yes, unfortunately there is no municipal garbage pick up in town. We have the option to arrange for private pick up at the end of each stay for an additional cost of $40, we also periodically dispose of recyclables, which tend to be on the heavy side, ourselves. This policy is disclosed here at VRBO and in a contract sent to each renter. Most short term renters prefer to pay the lower rate and take trash with them. Others, especially large families traveling far, often opt out to get it removed and pay a bit more for this convenience. We prefer to offer our guests a choice instead of building this cost into a higher daily rate. Our lot is adjacent to Route 8 which is a major road and the cabin is in close proximity to this state road. We chose this location since it offered secluded spot with a beautiful view which is still accessible by a paved, well maintained road in all seasons. Since you are an ADK regular, we hope to see you again next year!

Log Cabin with Views of Gore Mnt

  • 5 of 5

We had a very relaxing 10 days here in July/Aug 2015. The cabin location is peaceful. There was plenty of space for 4 people. Anastasia had been be prompt answering to questions regarding activities to do in the area (hicking, rafting, swimming, mountain bicking...). There is even documentation and detailed Maps of south and east Adirondacks provided. The cabin is clean, the view is great, the deck is gorgeous. We hope to come back here, maybe in winter.

Owner's Response: Francois, Thank you for choosing Angler's Rest for your vacation this summer. We would love to see you again some time next year. Unfortunately we do not rent out in the winter since we ski ourselves but welcome guests during all other seasons. We have rented during the winter in the past and are well familiar with the area so please let me know if you need any recommendations.

Exceptional place to relax!

  • 5 of 5

I am glad to write this review on Angler's Rest.

It was the last long weekend of the summer and 5 of us (2 couples and a friend) wanted to get away from the daily grind of the city life....and oh boy, did we find the right place? Angler's Rest was a pure bliss. The log cabin is shiny new with plenty of room for 6 adults and 2 kids. The kitchen was well equipped and the owner was gracious enough to let us use them.

The deck was mind blowing. During daytime we could see the gorgeous Gore Mountain peak and during the night, on a clear day, we could star gaze and experience the perfect darkness that we ohh so miss in our city lives. There were no other types of sound..just crickets. We also enjoyed the game room and the backyard with friends.

I worked with Anastasia, the owner of the cabin during the booking process. She is a fantastic lady to work with and super accommodating. Anastasia always looked out for our needs during the stay.

I highly recommend you to consider this place for your next vacation away from the city.

Map

Our log cabin is located only 7 or 8 minutes from Gore Mountain Ski Resort, one of the best ski mountains in the east. Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort (home of 1980 winter Olympics) is only 80 minutes away. Hot water baseboard heat on first floor and radiant floor heat on lower level make this a warm and cozy retreat throughout the year. Automatic emergency generator in case of power outage. This cabin is in ideal location for a spring/summer/fall get away for fishing, hiking, canoeing, kayaking and white water rafting. There is ALWAYS something fun to do in the Gore Mountain area. Beautiful Lake George Village and Million Dollar Beach are only 30 min away (weekly fireworks in summer). Great family swim area at Minerva Lake Beach only 18 min away. Our 6 acre property is inside Adirondack State Park and night sky is absolutely amazing without any light and noise pollution. To make your most memorable evenings, we offer our guests the use of our 8 inch telescope from the upstairs deck.
