Nice cabin, quiet and restful

  • 4 of 5

We had a great week at this cabin. Pam and Craig provided everything we needed. The lake is a very short distance, easy to walk and there was a rack at the lake where we could leave our canoe when we weren't using it. The lake is beautiful, not much boat traffic, very peaceful! Thanks for sharing your lovely home with us!!

Loved It!

  • 5 of 5

I was one of five adults who stayed at Bear Lodge for a week in June 2017 for Laconia Bike Week. This was my first trip to the New England area and this log cabin is truly beautiful inside and out. Very rustic. The weather was exceptionally warm (hot even) for mid-June. I don't believe I've ever stayed at a property that was so well equipped!!! The kitchen was very nicely stocked with everything you need to cook a nice meal. The beds were comfy and the bedrooms were cooled nicely from the window air conditioners. We slept like babies! The screened-in porch was absolutely awesome! We spent a lot of time on the porch in the evenings listening to music from the stereo located inside the cabin while enjoying a few cocktails. There was a small refrigerator on the porch that we kept our drinks in. We built a fire in the fire pit one night when it was a little chilly. Plenty of seating for everyone. Leave your chairs at home! A nice barbeque on the back deck that we used to cook steaks, chicken, and fish. We took a lot of road trips on our motorcycles while we were visiting the area. My favorite was a motorcycle ride to the top of Mt. Washington (beautiful! a mini Rocky Mountain!) We got some cool pictures of us on our bikes in the clouds! We, of course, did a couple days at main street in Laconia and we took a trip to Hampton Beach to see the ocean and we even rode into Maine for lobster. I would recommend this property if you want to get away from it all as it is nice and secluded but yet felt very safe. It is also within driving distance of restaurants and shopping so when you feel like eating out, it is just a few minutes drive to Sanborton. We were so busy we didn't have much lake/beach time but the lake is really beautiful and is located in close proximity of the cabin. Pam was wonderful to deal with from beginning to end. I had a little trouble booking my reservation online through VRBO, but Pam assured me she would hold my reservation for me which she did until I was successful in booking. Pam and Craig were waiting for us when we arrived to show us around the property. I texted her once for the wifi password and she responded quickly. Someone in our group forgot his Bluetooth but he is working with Pam to get it mailed home. All in all, we had a wonderful time, would highly recommend, and hope to someday be back to this wonderful log cabin in the woods in the beautiful state of New Hampshire!!!

I couldn't have imagined a better vacation. The cabin was immaculate inside and out. Perfect accommodations for my family. The huge bonus was the park and beach. Like something out of a Norman Rockwell painting. Absolutely peaceful!

Pam was there to greet us and walk us around. She was very patient despite my 3 rugrats.

Thank you Pam!!!!

Great Vacation Week

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week! The house was beautiful with comfortable room for 8 of us (two kids). All the amenities we needed.. Full kitchen, grill and air conditioning in bedrooms. Nice yard with fire stove, awesome porch. The lake was walking distance with a fantastic private beach. Renting kayaks was so much fun. Plenty of local things to do with great food at Weirs beach. We'd definitely do it again. Thanks Pam and Craig!

Nice and private, beach was less than desirable

  • 2 of 5

We felt the house was nice. The house is very private, and the front porch is big and a nice place to relax. The fire pit in the front yard is also a plus as there's plenty of space for a large family to enjoy. Inside the house the owner has a "bear" theme going on, which is cute, but there are a lot of things that can be broken with kids. There were a lot of nicknack decorations, and small side tables with older lamps that you need to watch around the kids. Also, the house isn't that close to the water. Its about a 5 minute walk. We weren't all that impressed with the beach area. There are no bathrooms, and the beach is surrounded by docks with boats coming and going on both sides. During hot sunny days you have to constantly be on the lookout for power boats coming in and out of the docks. We also felt the owner was a bit rude when we left. My daughter had broken the toilet seat handle in the upstairs bathroom, simply by using it, and the owner called to demand what I was going to do about it. She claimed she needed to get a plumber in to simply replace the handle. The connection wasn't very good when she called, and she said she would call back later, but never did. I dont know why I needed to purchase insurance on the rental if the owner was going to demand I pay out of pocket for something that was broken by normal use. In short, we had a good time, but the house's distance from the water, the lack of amenities at the beach, the close proximity of the beach to the docks, combined with the owner's unprofessional attitude on the phone would prevent me from considering a return or recommending this rental to family or friends.

Owner's Response: Bear Lodge has "Bear" decorations in it. Pictures on the walls and inexpensive figurines on the mantle and a shelf that is out of reach of small children. In my ad with VRBO it states this is not childproof, although it has bars on the window to prevent small children from falling out the windows upstair .and a removeable child safety gate to be used anywhere and time the renters choose. We have been inspected by the Fire Department and comply with all regulations. We are not professional landlords, just someone with a beautiful house in the woods of the White Mountains willing to share and our rates are much better than staying in a Hotel for a week. Just FYI if you break something in one of these hotel rooms you DO pay for it. I have put a claim into renters insurance for damages done during this family's stay. Accidents happen with kids, that's understandable but leaving before the owner arrives and denying the damage on the phone is also unprofessional. My phone does not get good reception here because I need a new phone. The beach is a beautiful, child friendly, shallow beach that has boat docks and a swim platform (just put in last year)swings, basketball hoops and picnic tables for everyone to use. There are pictures of it included with pictures of our home. The distance from our home to the beach is also included in the property's description. if the distance is too far for the renter because of age, disability or any other reason there is a small parking lot you can use while you enjoy one of New Hampshire's beautiful scenic Lakes ! In retrospect, I should have waited to call the renter until the next day.. I was so upset when I saw the damages because I'm not used to a renter doing this to our house that I forgot about the renters insurance . Our following renters were wonderful especially because it took us a few hours to get a plummer out to the house to replace the broken toilet. They were very patient as we fixed everything while they unpacked their cars. They told us they were greatful that we went to the trouble of replacing the toilet instead of just putting a "Broken" sign on the door. The handle could not be replaced because the toilet was a special order older model. Now everything is back to normal and I wish Jared T and his family well. P.S. I have removed the lamp from the table that was mentioned in the review and stored it out of harms way. Thanks for the suggestion.

Wonderful week spent at Bear Lodge

  • 4 of 5

Bear Lodge is a very attractive and peaceful property with all the amenities of home. We enjoyed our week there very much! Very quiet surroundings with just a short walk to a private beach on Lake Winnisquam. We enjoyed some time canoeing and fishing. Winnisquam a very beautiful lake. Nice evenings spent around a camp fire.
