About Jean Kelly
Native New Englander, been to Vt. every summer since age 6, avid skiier a few years back, love the outdoors, swimming, boating, cross-country skier, hiking up mountains; my sister has lived 7 mi. away for 55+ yrs.; we love taking day-trips to Stowe, St. Johnsbury, Waterbury, Lake Champlain, Newport, and Montreal, Quebec! Coming home to Coles Pond in the evening is the perfect way to end the day, topping it off with a fine chilled wine watching the sunset and the loons, then the stars on a clear night, breathing the clean air all night long--almost heaven! This just-retired librarian of 27+ yrs. brings lots of books to read on the porch or snuggled up on the couch hearing nothing but cool breezes whispering in the nearby spruces --and the loons! Turn on Vermont Public Radio on a rainy evening and it's just as relaxing. I love long walks and hikes with a friend, or a morning or evening paddle in the canoe when the pond is like glass. Cooking some of my favorite recipes, or just hamburgers & hot dogs for family and friends, with a bottle of wine is a joy as we dine, watch the loons and ducks paddle by as the sun sets over Walden Mt.--very peaceful and lovely!
Jean Kelly purchased this Cabin in 2002
Why Jean Kelly chose Walden
Atop the highest elevation of a body of water in Vt. *that's settled* (Walden Mt.), you're as close to nature as one can get, yet it's cozy and warm and not too rustic, love being in and on the water, and it's MINE! I used to go blueberry picking in my youth out along Coles Pond Rd. Now there's a wild blueberry patch right on this property, down by the water, towards the SW. To me, this is the quietest, most peaceful place on earth.
What makes this Cabin unique
Clear, clean air & water, cooler by about 10 degrees than in the valleys any time of year, good fishing, sailing, kayaking/canoeing and resting. Easy private access to the water any time, yet close to civilization. Shopping/antiquing, Barre granite quarry & museum, St. Johnsbury Atheneum, Ben & Jerry's ice cream home site & free tour(Waterbury), Stowe, art galleries & gift shops, the Von Trapp Family Lodge, Mt. Mansfield chairlift rides and alpine slide; country stores on all 3 sides of approach, plus many hiking opportunities available. Just call owner, we can discuss. 1-804-674-7461, in the greater Richmond, VA area.

We had a wonderful time at Coles Pond. Very quiet remote location.
The camp is exactly as described on VRBO. This is the perfect spot for those who want a real vacation and relaxation.
We are so pleased that these folks very much enjoyed their vacation at our very special place on Coles Pond! It certainly was a place of relaxation, clean, clear air and water, back-to-nature kind of place when I bought it 15 years ago, and it still is today--and much more! I never wanted to turn the TV or radio on, so I wouldn't miss the loons calling, the duck family quacking as they quietly swam by, all the kingfishers dive-bombing into the water, or just the quiet stillness at night, when you can look up and see all the constellations of the northern sky. It's even peaceful when it rains, and the protection of the full front porch is a perfect shelter. Privacy guaranteed, but great neighbors if you need that forgotten bottle of ketchup! Come and stay at the best place atop a mountain on the water, and you won't ever forget it :)
Canadian border 21 mi.-must have passports! Gateway to Montreal, Quebec City and provinces for excellent day or overnight trip; Green Mountains of Vt. has Mt. Mansfield, tallest mt. in Vt.(4393 ft.) with rugged hikes, part of the Appalachian Trail, ski lift rides, alpine slide, and numerous attractions, such as: hikes, rollerblading, gift shops, Von Trapp Family Lodge, fine dining, art galleries and shopping. Another recently re-done to upscale resort status is Jay Peak, 5 mi. from the Vt./Canada border (3,862 ft.elevation), 4-star, 5-story hotel, indoor water park, museum, eateries. The nearest N.H. attraction for a summer day trip in the White Mts. is Franconia Notch/Cannon Mt. with aerial tramway (seats 80 passengers) to the top (4080 ft.) with mountain-top restaurant & awesome views, including NH, VT, ME, NY & Canada, and a ski museum at the base; Mt. Washington (highest mountain in northeastern U.S.-6288 ft.) has the famous cog railway tour to the top (takes 3 hrs.), on which if you stand up while in motion has you standing at a 45 degree angle, and an auto road to the top. It's year-round national weather observatory & museum can be snowed-in during many months, and the oldest former hotel & surviving building in Mt. Washington State Park is the Tip Top House. Vermont has no billboards, just state and local small signs, being one of the first environmentally-friendly states in the U.S. Road trips are non-obstructive of views of everything natural; it's definitely an environmentally green state. Fresh, clean lakes and ponds, clear skies at night abound, the wild life including ducks, loons, geese, deer, moose, bears, and lots of birds to watch. Another nearby day trip that's fun is, Ben & Jerry's factory tour, over in Waterbury, Vt.(about 40 mi.) which has a free tour with a free ice cream sampling at the end. Cabot Creamery, nearby, has an outlet store in Waterbury also, which touts over 100 jelly bean choices, plus all the cheese and cracker selections you'll ever find anywhere. Winter skiiing is the great tourist attraction to Vermont, even tho' this rental is not available beyond September. Most ski resorts offer great summer tours as well. Local hikes and attractions are listed elsewhere in this listing, as well as in a Welcome Notebook at the cabin at Coles Pond.
