Our home, located on South Puget Sound, has complete privacy on all sides and full waterfront views from literally every room. Because this has been our 'home away from home' for so many years, we have gone out of our way to make it comfortable and a 'second' home for all of our guests. Our beach home is 3 levels, totaling 2600 square feet. We have two bedrooms on the main level, one with a queen bed and the other with two sets of bunk beds. Linens, sheets and bedding are all new and we have down comforters on most of the beds. The kitchen and main bathroom are also on the main level. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need- a garbage disposal, coffee maker, toaster, blender, mixer etc... We provide napkins, paper towels, spices, coffee, tea, lemonade, syrup, oils, ziploc bags, foil etc... Kitchen/dining area can seat up to 12. There is a deck off the kitchen/dining area, complete with a new gas barbecue. The master bedroom is located upstairs and has vaulted ceilings, all new Pottery Barn bedding, a flat screen TV and a private deck and bathroom. We also have an air conditioning unit in the master bedroom as well as on the main level living room so it stays cool on those hot summer nights! Downstairs is another great family gathering space! There is a large leather sectional couch, brand new large flat screen TV, foosball and games for all to enjoy! A full-sized washer/dryer and bathroom are also downstairs.
We are natives to the Northwest and live in Bellevue, Wa. Many of our great family memories and experiences have been with our two boys on Harstine Island. As our boys got older, our lives became busier. We decided to rent our vacation home and share our love of the area with others. It's a wonderful place all year long, whether you're enjoying the long hot summer days and roasting marshmallows by the fire or cuddling up inside watching the rain hit the water.
Darci Russell purchased this house in 1987
We fell in love with Harstine Island for so many reasons. First and foremost, we love the peace, quietness and beauty of the South Sound. We truly enjoy the no bank beach, something that is fairly rare on the island. It's a relatively short drive from Seattle and we don't have to worry about ferry schedules! We are somewhat secluded and have views of Indian Island right across from us. We love looking out at water and trees instead of other homes- this is a very tranquil setting.
We love this house! It has a great view, beach access, and a layout that is perfect for us. Our two families (4 adults, 5 kids) easily fit into this house. The kids slept in the same room, which was a lot of fun for them. The kids were able to spend time downstairs away from the adults, playing foosball or watching a movie. Our favorite things to do outside were beachcombing and taking out the kayaks that come with the house. We easily found life jackets at the house for adults and the kids. The house is really peaceful and quiet. The owner is fantastic and made sure our needs were met. We can't wait to come back next year!
This house was just perfect in so many ways! My daughter wanted to do a small getaway with a few friends for her 16th Birthday instead of big party and when I found this house I knew it was exactly what we wanted. Working with Darci was so amazing! She answered my questions quickly and I had a lot of them..
We arrived early on Friday and the girls immediately settled into the bunkroom (that means throwing everything down, fishing out the swimsuits and start exploring). I brought another mom along, so I would have help, and she loved having her own room and I really loved the upstairs bedroom with it's own bath. Loved firing up the bbq on the deck and serving burgers and dogs to the girls. The downstairs was great for the girls to throw on a movie at night and have a space to laugh and be loud while we hung out upstairs on the deck or watching tv. The girls loved the canoes and we had great weather so they were on the water much of the day. Even had a water fight on the large backyard. We walked the beach and enjoyed being the only ones out there. When the sun went down we gathered around the fire pit to roast marshmallows and make s'mores. This house is amazing and a super easy drive from the Seattle area. Will definitely come back here.
Met up with my brother and his family at a wonderful setting, and a great house. My husband and I took the top floor with bedroom and bath, while brother & wife with two teen sons settled in on the main floor. The "playroom" and laundry are on the bottom floor - all floors have decks and outdoor furniture. I noticed someone said there wasn't a pitcher for ice tea, so I contributed one to the pantry. Even with raining and windy weather (in August?), we had a great time. Were able to use the kayaks during the sun breaks. Played games and watched movies. Used the gas BBQ, and the kitchen is set up with everything. The owner, Darci is terrific to work with. When I texted about a problem with the shower door, she had already arranged for it's repair. I hope we can link up for a return visit.
We loved this house and will definately be returning next year. The kitchen had everything we needed, two bbq's (one gas, one charcoal), fire pit, lawn games, beach chairs...pretty much anything you could possibly need to have a nice relaxing vacation. Beds were comfy, house was super clean, just overall a really great house!
Our two week stay was awesome. The no bank waterfront home was exactly as described. We had our son-in-law, daughter and two granddaughters and the easy access to the water for our granddaughters was very nice. We have been staying at another cabin on the island but with the larger family, the size of the home was perfect. As we have been staying on the island for the past six years this place is nice due to ease of access and the view of Squaxin island is much closer. For those who have not experienced Harstine island, at this home we saw Bald Eagles, a deer on the lawn (yes our lawn), lots of seals and with the binoculars provided at the home we saw deer and coyotes on Squaxin island in the mornings. This place has air conditioning however for our stay it was not needed. Darci was quick to respond with any questions. Highly recommend!
The setting was quiet and the view was amazing. We had great weather and saw some beautiful sunsets (house faces West). We had a great time relaxing on the balcony, playing in the field, exploring the beach, and going kayaking. The house has two kayaks with paddles and life jackets for kids and adults. Our kids were from 3 to 8, and there were life jackets to fit each one). The kayaks are singles, but we were able to sit one kid and one adult in each one. We saw seals raise their heads above the water every day, as they go up and down the passage looking for fish. We saw bald eagles as well. Once out on the water, you can see the Olympics to the North. Near the shore, you can see the bottom quite clearly. We saw crabs, sea stars, and anemones.
The house had nice decor, was spacious, and had great views. The beds were comfortable. The top bunk bed on the main floor didn't have a railing, so an adult slept up there. The bunk beds were quite large, so it wasn't a problem. The bathrooms and kitchen were nice as well. The owners did a nice job with the house. The owners were very nice and responded quickly if we needed anything.
We had a wonderful, memorable stay. We loved the setting so much, we spent most of our time on the property. Our kids loved it and we can't wait to go back!
