Sweet Pea Cottage is an affordable and charming 2+ bedroom cottage located just a few minutes walk to downtown Stonington & harbor. It comes with the use of two kayaks and gear located on the dock of our other cottage right on Stonington Harbor, about a 10-15 minute walk away, or few minutes drive (vrbo 30315) - including a parking spot. It is just down the street from the popular Friday market. The cottage is warm and charming, decorated in a cozy-cottage style with simple antiques and collectibles - very clean, well supplied, fully maintained and surrounded by gardens and mossy-floored woodlands. Laundry room, workshop, cable tv, internet, outdoor seating, gardens, fire pit, gas grill, picnic table and tiny spring creek, too. Guest feedback has been excellent. While not possessing a direct ocean view, a small path up behind the cottage leads to a hill top which has distant views out of Stonington Harbor, out beyond Isle au Haut, and over to the hills of Camden. It is only a 5 minute drive to nearby Sand Beach. With so much public oceanfront and wide-ranging activities nearby, Sweet Pea Cottage provides a very affordable way to enjoy the amenities of Deer Isle and Stonington, but at one of the most affordable area rentals!

About Barbara Wescott
Although I now reside in Florida, my family is from this region. We bought this home to spend more time in the area.
Barbara Wescott purchased this Cottage in 2002
Why Barbara Wescott chose Stonington
We own another house right on the harbor (vrbo/30315) that we rent out, but we wanted another, more affordable home to be able to stay more often. However, work is keeping us away, so now we rent out this home, too!
What makes this Cottage unique
While not a fancy place, we really have fixed this place up cute...and it is in a nice and convenient setting, too. It's just a quick walk in to town or the Friday market, and a short path leads to a hilltop with outstanding views across the waters and out to Isle au Haut and the Hills of Camden. Sweet Pea is a great deal, likely you won't find anything of better value!

The cottage was comfortable and quiet. Very clean and well kept
People staying here should be very flexible.
Bed sheets had mildew and the over all building had a strong smell of animals (which I am OK with... but guest was not) There are many windows with peeling paint (not sure about children). The window fan in the living room is extremely dirty. One of the house keys has an off-cut and has to be giggled to work properly.
Arrived after dark. No outside lights (sensors) to help navigate to back entrance.
Wifi password listed on the welcome app is not correct. It took some time... but found the "new" password posted on a wall.
Nice quiet spot. People staying here should be very flexible.
Cozy and comfy
We enjoyed our say at this cottage! It is very unique as if going back in time to visit your grandma...decor is that of the 40s and 50s. The backyard has a private, shady area for relaxing and it was so close to Stonington's downtown area. Very nice combination...homey near the coastline. Barbara was so nice and just a phone call or text away.
Bad Smell, Uncomfortable Beds
I couldn't have been more disappointed in a vacation rental. The house had an unpleasant smell that made me think of mold. The smell permeated my clothes. Another troubling aspect of the rental was how uncomfortable the mattresses were. The pillows were equally bad. I wish there was something nice I could say about this cottage or the way it was decorated. However, there is not.
Yikes! I am completely perplexed to the nature of this review. We have so enjoyed the many appreciative guests who have loved the cottage and enjoyed the VERY MUCH BELOW market pricing, not to mention the free kayaks, dock, beach access, and downtown parking at our nearby oceanfront properties. The cottage has been solidly booked, cleaned thoroughly weekly by my Mom & Sister, with happy customers complimenting the cleanliness and accommodations week after week. Not every home is the perfect fit for all, and I believe these guests were better suited to a higher end / higher priced property. Having said this, I have placed a phone call to this reviewer and will certainly be open to learn any way in which we can improve. But do please refer to our other reviews for a more complete picture.
Felt immediately at home
This is a quaint, cosy cottage, where we very comfortable. Stonington is an interesting working lobster fishing village, which we found fascinating.
So glad you enjoy your stay and our area!
Interesting Place--Great Area!
We had a great time exploring the Stonington area and staying in our cozy cottage! It is rustic and a little funky, but it was VERY clean and comfortable. We cooked breakfast every day, then left to check out the beautiful coastal towns, and returned with fresh seafood to cook for dinner. We had to do some improvising, because the kitchen pots and pans were a little rustic too, but we made it work! We enjoyed the firepit in the backyard and did walk in to town a couple times. The road to town is not the safest and we never did find a path to the downtown, even though we explored the woods behind the house. It was fun to walk on the rocks in the harbor and the views there are gorgeous. Sand Beach, a short drive away, is a hidden treasure and beautiful at sunset. Don't miss the little place on the dock where you can hold the lobsters (locals don't even know about it) or the Dockside Gifts (where the cute owner gave us all kinds of great tips, like when to go to/avoid Bar Harbor and that we should drive to Castine--loved it!) Acadia/Bar Harbor is only about 75 minutes away and well worth the drive! We went twice, which only cost $25 for the car, because the pass is good for 7 days. We have never seen such beauty, and various types of landscape in one park (beaches, ponds, mountain, rocks, ledges!) All that being said, we had a wonderful week in Stonington at this cottage. The price was very reasonable compared to other places we checked out. If you aren't as adventurous and want to relax on your porch/deck and look at the water, I would recommend looking into Barbara's other property on the harbor. She was very prompt responding to all emails and requests and her mother was charming as we met her when we were checking out. Don't miss a chance to visit Stonington/Acadia/Bar Harbor--it's a treat!

A really sweet house in a more modest, yet very safe working class neighborhood. Wooded on two sides of home, w/ only a neighbor to one side, and another kitty-cornered across the street. There is a very old and horrible street view from Google....that does not in any way reflect how the street looks. Just a darn bad, inaccurate image. Plenty of pictures of the street to show upon request.
