About Judy Hyde
We are in our mid-60's, have 3 adult children, and 4 grandchildren. Our hobbies are travel, golf, hiking, bridge, swimming, stand-up paddle, and reading.
Judy Hyde purchased this House in 2008
Why Judy Hyde chose Kamuela
We bought this property for our extended family and friends to celebrate holidays and special occasions. We wanted to be within the gates of the Mauna Kea resort, enjoy a private retreat with spectacular views, and have a heated pool - a feature that is necessary in the winter months.
What makes this House unique
This is a very relaxing and comfortable home. The individual pods make group living really easy. We love the location - a simple drive or a scenic walk to our favorite beach in the world, and we treasure the privacy and views from every room. We have been fortunate to share our home with many friends, and pleased to know how much they enjoyed their stay.

Second stay at home was a great as the first
Another wonderful stay at a beautiful home
The very best spot on the less rainy side of the Big Island! Quiet, private, snorkeling in Mauna Kea Bay, close to the Fish House for fresh fish, nearby Farmer’s Market, perfect beach with towels and friendly bar/restaurant. You can’t help but have a great time here! The house has a near perfect layout with plenty of room for privacy and camaraderie. Eating outside as you watch the sunset, pool long enough for a few laps, super solicitous owner and staff. Delicious air!
Unique and Relaxing!
Perfect! That’s the way I would describe this place. You feel yourself relax the moment you walk into the inner courtyard with the pool. If you go to the right you find two beautiful en suite bedrooms with one entire wall of open air doors which offer you a view of the pool, the numerous colorful birds, the bougainvilleas, the sky, the gorgeous sunsets, and the stars at night. If you go to the left you walk into the main part of the house which is furnished with lovely Polynesian works of art There is a long breezeway which leads to a very nice bar and living room. The gentle breeze that greets you as you walk towards the living room is very welcoming. The living room was designed with open walls which give you a stunning view of the golf course and the ocean below. There is a large screen TV discreetly positioned in a cabinet along the wall. There is a lovely dining room and also a large outdoor glass dining table which is where we had all our meals. This is a wonderful place for families. There are plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms. The way it is designed provides privacy for everyone which is quite nice. There is also a den with a second TV. The kitchen is very large and flows well. It is stocked with everything you could possibly need. The whole place has a feeling of happiness about it and it’s very easy to settle in and feel at home. I have no hesitation giving it 5 stars!
Breathtaking house with ocean view
The villa was amazing. The house is gorgeous. It was spacious and comfortable. I was pleasantly surprised. It was perfect for entertaining our family. We loved the split floor plan with air conditioned bedrooms separate from the rest of the house. The kids loved swimming in the pool and eating breakfast in the backyard with ocean views. We loved having access to the Mauna Kea for golf and tennis as well as the hapuna resort for its breathtaking beach. We normally stay st four seasons or Mauna Lani. This house was far better. It’s a hidden secret. Nicole was great with daily housekeeping and on suggestions on places to see and eat. This home is perfect for family gatherings with access to great resorts. It doesn’t get any better. Thank you. Chris and Perry.
Our entire family (7 adults and 2 infants) stayed in this fantastic house for a week to attend a wedding at the Mauna Kea. It could not have been better. Comfortable, beautiful view, open to the trade winds, and plenty of space for us all to gather, yet separated rooms for privacy. (That was particularly helpful with two infants tending to wake in the middle of the night without waking everyone else up.) Judy Hyde (the owner) was a delight to deal with and so very, very helpful. And Nicole (the property manager) was equally nice and helpful. (We actually had a slight plumbing back up issue that was no big deal, but Nicole had someone out to fix it immediately!) We made use of the Resident Club Membership available through the rental so we could park at the Mauna Kea and take advantage of the restaurants and amenities at the resort. That was a great plus. Our only concern coming in was whether the house was close enough to the main road that there would be traffic noise. We never heard a thing. The house is far enough removed that traffic noise was never an issue. All in all, we can't say enough about the house and/or Judy. We highly recommend this rental.
What a Great Place for a Family
So much has already been said I can only confirm how wonderful were the accommodations as well as support for this lovely traditional home. We had three of our children and their families over a 16 day period with ease, fun and enjoyment celebration my wives 80th birthday. I would definitely recommend this home for a stay at this fully equipped and comfortable family friendly home on the beautiful Mauna Kea resort grounds.
Our home is a great starting point to tour the entire island, and is close to Waimea, a charming Hawaiian town off the tourist track, where there are farmer's markets, live theater, shopping, and excellent restaurants. Less than 4 miles away is the little town of Kaiwaihae, with outdoor produce market, a local fresh (straight from the ocean) fish market, a macadamia nut factory, and several good restaurants.
