Centrally located near Plaza Mexiamora, welcome to our newly renovated home. Guests enjoy their own private patio garden with a variety of fruit trees. Our brightly-lit one bedroom, one bathroom apartment features artwork from all over Mexico. Spend a relaxing morning, sipping coffee in the dining room while you watch the hummingbirds pollinate the lime tree. We're located within 5-10 minutes of each of the 3 main language schools in town.
The main entrance opens to the brightly lit kitchen, decorated in with traditional Mexican talavera tiles. The kitchen features a modern stove, refrigerator, coffee maker and toaster oven. Interested in cooking classes while you're in Guanajuato? We are happy to set-up classes for you with the culinary professional teaching right in your own home.
Walking through the kitchen leads us to the dining room area, featuring high ceilings which allow one to really enjoy vistas of the back garden.
From the dining room, we turn left to enter the living room which features weavings, mainly from the Patzcuaro area. The living room is a great place to relax and study Spanish, using the high-speed internet.
The bedroom is either accessed from the living room or a door to the outside and from the bedroom, we can access the bathroom. The bathroom, in traditional Mexican style is a separate structure, 2 steps from the bedroom and under and under an overhang.
Mike and Sam moved to Guanajuato in 2010 after what was supposed to be a short visit. The apartment was the original casita that we purchased from Senora Rosita, who still lives down the callejon. We absolutely love Guanajuato and want to ensure our visitors do as well. We're happy to help arrange everything from Spanish classes to catered, in-home cocktail parties. When we're not in Guanajuato, we have the most excellent property manager, Julie, who has served as an informal ambassador to Guanajuato for many years now and an owner at one of the most popular restaurants in town.
We also offer weekly cleaning services for guests staying longer than 2 weeks. High-speed internet is always available and gas and electricity is included.
Welcome to Guanajuato!
Its the same old story- Mike and Sam went to Guanajuato for a holiday trip and ended up staying for a lifetime. We purchased our (now) dream home from Senora Rosita who still lives down the callejon. Anticipating a building project that would last a year or so, it soon turned into 4 but we're (very) happy to say that we're now finished and just enjoying the good life in Guanajuato.
A year in, we also started a business and are here to stay. We love Guanajuato and want our guests to understand what a great city it really is. Whether you're interested in taking Spanish classes, guitar lessons or need one-on-one language tutoring, please let us know and we'll be happy to help. Thanks for visiting and have a great time in Guanajuato!
Owner/Property Manager: Michael Wyngaard purchased this apartment in 2009
Location, location, location! Isn't that what they always say? We began renting in the Mexiamora neighborhood because we had heard such great things about the area. From our rental, we had a great view of this undeveloped property a little further down the hill. Asking around the neighborhood, we soon found out that the owner may now be willing to sell.
The property was a çhallenging venture, to say the least but we went ahead anyways. Our property is very large by downtown Guanajuato standards and we've used that space to create many, many gardens, even adding a fire pit recently. We're low enough that you can get down to the city center, but high enough that you can really appreciate the entire Guanajuato landscape.
We have retained as many traditional Mexican architectural features of the house as possible. We were fortunate that the original design takes advantage of the natural sun which floods into the house in the morning.
Most of our guests comment the most on the private garden of our home. The lime tree produces so much that you can smell the limes from the dining room, inside the home. We have quite a few hummingbirds that frequent the garden and I have lost many an hour, drinking local coffee from Cafe Tal and watching the birds coming and going.
My stay at Buena Vida apartment was absolutely delightful. I didn't have the chance to meet Michael but the house manager Julie was there in his place and made sure our stay was a pleasant one, starting off with a welcoming assortment of amazing oatmeal cookies and scones, plus coffee for our stay. The property is in an ideal location just a short walk from the main square in Guanajuato and has all the amenities for both a short and long stay, a beautiful garden, a very comfortable bed, a welcoming atmosphere and overall a fantastic location, safe, fairly easy access (the property is a short walk uphill, making for a very complete Guanajuato experience) and beautiful (pictures don't do it justice) I was working full time during my stay and coming home late, really felt like coming home. I only wish I could have stayed a little longer! Very glad to have found this place.
My wife and I stayed here for 5 weeks and really enjoyed our time. The apartment is in a great location and comes equipped with everything you would need. The rooms are all nicely decorated and the courtyard is a great place to unwind. I can't recommend this place enough. The owners, Mike and Sam, are great!
• Full apt. Setup with furnished living room, dining room, separate bedroom and full kitchen
• Close to city center - 5-7 minute walk
• Spectacular view of city from terrace behind apt.
• Private shaded patio
• Plenty of hot water for showers, coffee and tea
• Wifi (shared with upstairs apt.)
• Excellent unit manager who helped with guides and luggage handling. She makes it 3-1/2 stars.
• Guanajuato is a fascinating city with many tours, museums, live performances and culture. The Medieval Festival held during our visit featured jousting with lances on horses, pig races and much tomfoolery!
• Access to unit via moderate to steep, cobblestone callejons (alleys and steps) approx. 7-story climb (according to our Fitbit step tracker).
• Recommended for under 55 and very fit seniors (no handicapped access) with limited baggage
• No auto access - luggage must be rolled up the alleys and carried up several flights of steps
• Bathroom is outside the unit, access by separate door in bedroom that must be pushed hard to latch and unlatch. Door access is 2 steps down in bedroom-hard to see at night
• Rent the unit upstairs if you can - it's 2 bedroom - bi-level with interior bathrooms and nice decor.
Just a few steps from everything. Beautiful garden, fireplace with a great view and clean, comfortable, practical and beautiful appartment. Both the kids and parents loved this property.
Camilla, the house manager was lovley and helpful when needed.
I will highly recomend this property to anyone.
Guanajuato is also a magical experience, so many people come for just a few days and end up staying for years.
