One of the Smoky Mountains' three entrances is located just 1.5 mi. from our home at Metcalf Bottoms. Hiking trails, Little Greenbrier School House, fly fishing and picnic facilities are in this area. From Metcalf Bottoms, it is a short drive to the Elkmont camping area and Laurel Falls hiking trail. There are historical buildings in the Elkmont area which was formerly a resort area where the Wonderland Hotel once stood. There is a great swimming hole on the Elkmont entrance road. Sugarlands Visitors' Center and Gatlinburg are a few miles beyond the Laurel Falls hiking trail. We often see bears on our way to Metcalf Bottoms. Beautiful!!
Townsend is 5.5 miles away and Cades Cove is approximately 13 mi. A ride through the Valley will lead to Pigeon Forge, home of Dollywood, Splash Country, Dinner theaters, restaurants and Outlet shopping. Many, many attractions are in this area.
Our home is centrally located in areas appealing to those who love the outdoors and historic sites, theme parks, amusement parks, dining and shopping. We have it all within a short drive!!
We are the potters of the Thomas Pottery Gallery. We used this home to operate a pottery studio and retail gallery for several years. When retiring from full time shop keeping, we could not part with this property. We continue to sell our pottery at the nearby Wears Valley Antique and Craft Gallery and operate our home as a vacation rental. We live about an hour away.
Larry & Caroline Thomas purchased this house in 2003
We bought this property because of the beauty of the area and its access to attractions of all kinds. We have year round access, roads are cleared quickly, and we are just yards of Hwy. 321.
Nature, entertainment, dining and shopping - we have it all!!!
We chose this house for our family Christmas getaway. I'm so glad we did. The Thomas' were so sweet!! The home was beautiful and the pottery inside was amazing!! We loved being outside the city hustle and bustle. You couldn't ask for anything else to help make your stay more comfortable. Thanks, Mr. And Mrs. Thomas for opening your home for us to be able to rent!!
We absolutely love this rental! Very clean! Amazing views! We will definitely rent this house again. Everything we needed was provided. The owners are very easy to work with. Myself, my husband, our four kids and my niece loved every minute!
We arrived just yesterday and will continue to stay the week, but I felt the need to write this review right away. One word...wow!
My wife is from this area and I even lived here in Wears Valley for a short time while I was working for the Park. We are quite familiar with the Townsend, Wears Valley, Maryville area. We wanted to be close to the Park, but also close to Maryville. We felt that Wears Valley would be a good choice, but didn't want to be up high on Cove Mountain. Found the Potter's House on VRBO. Pictures looked good and the reviews were even better.
The location of this home is excellent. Conveniently located just off 321. It's absolutely gorgeous. The home is incredibly clean and comfortable. Has an excellent front porch with a stunning view of Cove Mountain and Little Round Top. Line Springs, which puts you right into Smoky Mountains NP at Metcalf Bottoms, is a 30 second drive. Unreal.
Bedrooms and spacious and comfortable. Nice flat screen TV with wifi. Wood burning fireplace. Nice kitchen with adequate space. Game room with ping pong table and building blocks for the kiddos. I really can't say enough about this house. Without a doubt, we will never rent another home up here unless we absolutely have to.
When we made the reservation, the owners were kind and responsive. Also left a nice hand-written note for us ensuring us they were just a call away if we needed anything. If you're looking for a home and you don't mind not having a hot tub and "big cabin" feel, look no further. I assure you, you won't find a more charming, clean and conveniently located home.
Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home. We will most definitely be back!
We thoroughly enjoyed your beautiful home. We have rented from VRBO for about 20 years and we have never had a rental that was as clean and hospitable as your lovely home. And we agree with previous reviews, the pictures do not do your home justice! The beautiful pottery (which we did go to the gallery and purchased several for souvenirs for us and then returned for more to take for gifts) and the other special touchs-comfortable and nice furniture, above average beds and bedding, soft towels and beautiful dishes made our trip special. The gorgeous views and the perfect location insure we will return and hopefully very soon!!
Stayed from 7/17/2016 to 7/24/2016. Excellent location to a all kinds of activities. Accommodations were great and I would highly recommend!!! Could have ask for anything better.
Property is located in a beautiful valley with mountain views. Just 1.5 miles from the Metcalf Bottoms entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Location has year round access. Historical sites, hiking trails, fly fishing and horseback riding close by. Easy access to groceries and dining.
