Overview

About the property

3 Bedrooms, 3 Bathrooms, Sleeps 8 maximum

Poplar Cottage is set on one acre of flat, grassy land and designed for true indoor/outdoor living. French doors open from the eat-in kitchen to a stone terrace that overlooks a rose garden. On the terrace guests will find an outdoor table, shaded by a mature date palm tree, suitable for dining al fresco for 6+ people. This is a perfect area to enjoy coffee, read, and watch the sunrise or nap.

Tall poplar and live oak trees shade the front yard of the home. Nap in the hammock while someone enjoys the tree swing for hours. There is a love seat, several lounge chairs and a rolling cart in the grove where you may enjoy your purchased wines from your wine tasting adventures.

In the back there is a 40x15 ft pool, a hot tub, lounge chairs and folding chairs to help create the perfect atmosphere on a sunny Sonoma day or a beautiful Sonoma night. The pool will be warmest from June - September, as nights are cool in Northern California and heating it can be cost prohibitive. A gas grill is available to cook up dinner. This is quintessential Wine Country living, affording guests the ability to choose between social and private activities, indoors and outdoors, in the best, most relaxing and enjoyable way.

The house comfortably sleeps up to six people across three bedrooms and an additional den/sitting room. The master bedroom has a queen canopy bed, chaise, flat screen TV, large desk and Wi-Fi. There is a sliding glass door directly to the hot tub. Upstairs, the second and third sunny bedrooms share a new bathroom. One bedroom is equipped with a queen; the 2nd has two twins with two trundles. The twin room with pull out trundles are good for kids to sleep. Downstairs there is a pullout queen sofa bed, if an extra guest (who is approved) needs to sleep.

The mudroom has a large washer and dryer and there is a hair dryer and other amenities in the bathrooms for your convenience.

Poplar Cottage will provide an incredible “insider's” home base for exploring the Sonoma, Napa, and Carneros wine regions, via the hospitality manager and a book to browse through. The Sonoma/Napa area offers great vacation experiences throughout the four seasons. There is never a bad time to visit Northern California's wine country.

Walk, borrow our bikes, or take a short drive to Sonoma Plaza restaurants, over 100 tasting rooms and wineries, unique shops, galleries, historic sites; and art, cultural, film, food, entertainment events.

About Stacey Scott

Our San Francisco family has owned this home since 2002 and has enjoyed beautiful Sonoma year round as a wonderful family retreat.

Stacey Scott purchased this house in 2002

Why Stacey Scott chose Sonoma County

The property has been passed down a generation. We are now opening it up to people to share the love of the Sonoma county and all it has to offer.

What makes this house unique

Behind the front gate is a wonderful property with a grassy, shaded and lush front yard. We love our large tree swing hung from a 100 yr old live oak tree. The hammock is a wonderful place to nap, read or just escape. Swimming and enjoying the sun and shade is another plus on this property. Swimming is accessible from May - October, but the pool is closed during the winter and spring. The cold Northern California nights can make it difficult to keep warm. The hot tub may be used all year long. We enjoy almost all of our meals in the spring and summer time outdoors.

Lovely home in a lovely location with lovely hosts.

  • 5 of 5

Stacey and her family are wonderful hosts who communicate rapidly and efficiently. I had questions and Stacey answered them all thoroughly without making me seem a burden. We were a multi generation family including our 8 month grandchild and the house couldn't be more perfect from a private master suite on the first floor with a closet big enough for the pack and play to allow for quiet naptime to numerous areas in and outside the house for games, quiet conversation, sunning or pool play. Kitchen is equipped with a Bosch dishwasher, great gas range, full supply of quality dishware. Nearby is a full bath, pet area including dog door as well as a top of the line laundry set.

The trampoline is away from the back yard so would require supervision but our 20 something visitors loved it for a few minutes before tuckering out. Stroller walks each morning to Sonoma Plaza as well as bike rides on the provided bikes and some great meals out were only a few highlights. Within minutes we were at Gloria Ferrer, Jacuzzi, Viansa and even ventured out to Copola Vineyard and a day in Healdsburg. Don't miss Fremont Diner and Vineburg Deli also nearby. Ice cream in the square is a nice reason for a walk. We never even used the den, dining room or living room because the outdoors was so inviting.

Slow mornings began around the breakfast table or lounge chairs just outside the door. Late risers were not disturbed as the house seems to be well sound insulated. Evenings were spent again outside around the dining table drinking much wine and connecting with family. There was never a time we said " I wish we had ..." or " Too bad we couldn't ..." Anything you needed seemed to be there. Including apples on the trees and basil in the garden!

Front yard is huge with a quiet sitting area with beautiful weathered teak chairs and a rug under the trees. A hammock is nearby where we have a tender picture of new dad and baby to forever remember this time together. A few swings, one under the porch and one near the hammock, are great entertainment for older children. There was also a large side area where the dog was happy to chase a ball or smell animal holes. Landscaping crew arrived on our last day to make the grounds even more perfect.

I know everyone submits glowing reviews but this time it is fully warranted as I can't think of a single negative thing I could mention. I can not wait to book again and our east coast visitors also felt great recommending the home too.

Cute place

  • 4 of 5

We were a group of four friends gathering in wine country for a long weekend, and this house worked for us. The grounds are exceptional, and the photos don't do it justice. It must be a double lot, there is so much yard, beautifully landscaped and with roses in bloom when we visited. There are so many adorable outdoor seating areas we had to try to use them all! We had chosen the house in part because of the pool, so we were disappointed to be told the day before our visit (and only after asking specifically) that there would be an $800 (!!!) upcharge to heat the pool. So know that upfront if you are looking at the pictures of the very inviting pool. We did make use of the hot tub on chilly nights.

The interior is nice, with newly upgraded bathrooms. We didn't cook much because there are so many great places to eat, but the kitchen seemed to have everything we needed. The caretaker did pop by unannounced once, which gave us a little scare, but he was perfectly nice.

One word about location if you're not very familiar with Sonoma -- you're just a bit too far from the main square to walk to the restaurants there, which was a drag after a long day of wine-drinking. And cab drivers seemed to have a nearly impossible time finding us at this address.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words about the house and grounds. I try to be crystal clear to my guests about the pool really only being in use from June - September. Northern California chilly nights drop temperatures to the 40s, the pool will really stay warm only from June - September. To heat the pool, it is an excess of $800/month during the cold months. I did however, offer to heat it for an additional $200 (we would have absorbed the excess cost). Your group declined the surcharge. The pool was 84 degrees when your group checked in. I will however, try to be clearer in the copy so that future guests know what to expect. Our home is on over an acre of land, so about one mile from the square. There are virtually no homes available to rent right in town due to city ordinances, but I will again remind people that while it's a long walk dressed for dinner, it's a short walk into town to enjoy. Vern's Taxi is for sure familiar with where our home is located. Thanks for the feedback!

Beautiful property. We rented it for the weekend when my daughter graduated from Dominican University. We had family from the east coast, we celebrated & enjoyed Sonoma & Napa in our downtime. Would absolutely recommend it!

Perfect oasis near Sonoma Square!

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic experience! The photos do not do it justice. A group of 6 girls and I stayed in this beautiful home filled with surprises. Fantastic hot tub, fully stocked kitchen needs, incredible yard/patios for indoor-outdoor living. Beds, pillows, towels, and more were comfy and high quality. We will definitely be back!
