About Barb O'Neill
We are Marquette natives we lived away while my husband was in the US Navy during the Vietnam Era, stationed on the USS Kitty Hawk. My husband is a retired carpenter and I retired from the City of Marquette along with owning my own business, Embroidery Wearhouse. We are the proud parents of three daughters and two granddaughters. Our plan is to travel to Europe and here in the US.
Barb O'Neill purchased this House in 1989
Why Barb O'Neill chose Marquette Township
This home previously belonged to our grandparents. The home has been in the family since 1923, we wish to continue the family legacy. We purchased it in 1989 and lived in it while we built our house. Central location is convenient yet offers privacy within the City of Marquette. We generally walk to restaurants, bars, the Food Co-op, Lake Superior and Mattson Park. Mattson Park is where most of the festivals are held, it's easier to walk from the house then try to find a parking spot. Park Cemetery is located just to the north of the home, access is available straight up the hill, past the American Legion. This is a cemetery but it's also a park. Beautiful trees, ponds, ski trail and monuments, it's a peaceful place to take a walk, or a bike ride.
What makes this House unique
The home is close to activities but yet off the path so you can enjoy your privacy and quiet time. Love the history of the home, original hardwood floors and rounded archways and the front screen porch are my favorite place to enjoy a drink and the view. The design of the home is all on one level which is convenient for young and old.

Very convenient and kid friendly
We loved being so close to the park and they had two sleds readily available. Was nice and quiet too. This house has been through a beautiful remodel and you can tell time was taken and attention to detail was kept. Everything was very clean and owners were very easy to contact if I had any questions. Would definitely love to stay longer and will definitely rebook for future trips back up here.
Great stay, perfect fit for our group
Very convenient location for our base camp. 4 adults, 3 kids. Spent a day ice climbing in Munising, a day skiing Marq Mtn, did some ice skating and hiked sugarloaf. Close to restaurants, the food co-op is right down the street. As for the house itself, the front porch was great for keeping all of our gear out of the way. Loved the wood floors (bring slippers if it's wintertime). Furnishings were adequate. Bedrooms were fine. Kitchen was great. House was clean with no noticeable smells. Being so cold outdoors, the house was pretty dry - a whole house humidifier would have been nice. Had a breaker trip during the stay and the owner was SUPER responsive pointing out where the panel was located. Overall we were very happy and would definitely stay here again.
We enjoyed the house. Sure beats hotel rooms. The house was warm and inviting and very well stocked. We will definitely do this again.
This place is perfect! It's an updated older home and they did an amazing job. We were so impressed with the inside (the outside pictures online do not do it justice). The location was great for us, as we like to walk to town. It is near a busy street (Washington), but it was very quiet, and we were there during NMU's homecoming.
Only thing I would suggest to future renters: bring your own pillow if your picky about pillows, the ones provided are stiff.
Thank you for the great review. Pillows are such a personal choice that I found it difficult to choose which type most people would like. After your review I added feather pillows to add to the mix. We now have firm, feather and squishy pillows, something for just about everyone. We'll do our best to provide the best experience possible. Thank you, hope to see you on your next trip to Marquette.
