Outstanding property for a family

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time using VRBO and it went very well. The property is lovely; the appliances all worked great; the hot tub was delightful and it was overall very relaxing. The WiFi was easy and a huge help as we planned a day trip to Seattle. The location allowed us to get up to Sunrise Lodge on Mount Rainier for a great day of hiking before the crowds, even on a Saturday in peak season. Owners did a great job of being available if needed but otherwise not needed. High recommended!

Good, roomy, comfortable rental close to Rainier

  • 4 of 5

We are a retired couple who spent a very pleasant week here in early August, using it as a base camp to hike in Rainier each day. The house is a 35 to 60 minute drive from the Sunrise Visitor Center & from Lake Tipsoo, depending on traffic. Further to Paradise, but worth the drive. You will have a very hard time finding a rental house like this situated any closer to the NE corner of the park, which we think is a prime location.

The house is as portrayed on Homeaway. It is roomy, with a large and very well equipped and well stocked kitchen. The dining area is similarly large and can accommodate 8 (or maybe more) people. There is a gas barbecue. There is a TV on each floor (Netflix & DVDs only). The house has a wonderful wrap-around porch, a fire pit, and a hot tub. There is extensive outdoor playground-type equipment for very young kids. Enumclaw has an excellent Safeway supermarket, which offers the nearest shopping to the rental house (30 minutes away). You will want to stock up before moving on to the house. While in Enumclaw, be sure to stop at the Pie Goddess. We also enjoyed a visit to Rockridge Orchards & Cidery.

Privacy is very good, but not absolute. In the week we were there, we saw the caretakers once and saw and heard the neighbors and their kids several times, so we assumed they could see and hear us. Not a issue for us, but if you are seeking total privacy at all times it may be an issue for you.

Mike and Melody were responsive to questions via email and phone while we were there.

Easy hikes that we recommend (we are very active but we are in our 60s) include: Naches Peak Loop (a must); Sunrise Rim trail; Nisqually Vista; Emmons Moraine; Alta Vista; Skyline Trail.

Watch your gas gauge. Gas stations are few and far between, and there are none in the park. Nearest gas is Greenwater (NE corner of the park, 4 miles from the house), Packwood (SE), and Ashford (SW). Each is about 20 or 30 miles outside the park.

Some (relatively minor) concerns - There are no reading lamps, although the lighting is otherwise good. There is no provision for listening to music (at least not that we could find). The second floor bathroom lacks a shower, but does have a handheld shower attachment in the tub. The tub is difficult to get in and out of and the first floor shower stall can be very slippery. The wrap-around porch is bare and has no deck furniture.

All things considered, we would consider renting this house again when we return to Rainier.

Beautiful home in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

This home was wonderful. It is set in woods and is very well appointed. My daughter loved the play area and we loved the greenery that surrounded it. We would love to stay here again. It makes a perfect base camp to explore Mt Rainier.

Clean, Spacious, Very Close to Mt. Rainier

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful lodge with plenty of room for us -- six adults. There's room for more too. Hot tub was great. Grill worked flawlessly. The lodge appears to be just a few years old, if that. We even participated in composting and ate raspberries! The outside fire pit was perfect for s'mores and evening chats. We rented for a week in July. Trees surround the lodge. A 30-minute drive gets you to views of Mount Rainier inside the park. A 30-minute drive the other way gets you to Enumclaw, which has all you need in a town. Another 15 minutes toward Seattle, there's a nice little casino. The Seattle airport is a little over an hour away. The interior decorating is clean, crisp with an outdoor theme. Everything you need in a furnished lodge is there. The wrap-around deck is perfect for getting fresh air. We had a great time, we felt safe and at home. The onsite (separate building) caretakers never interfered, but were there if we needed them. I would certainly rent this lodge again. The proprietor has done a great job with this vacation rental.

Great stay in a great property

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 7 stayed at the house for 5 nights. On our first morning there were a dozen elk in the front yard and it was a thrill for Easterners to see. We skied at Crystal Mountain for 4 days in a variety of conditions leading up to our last day of Powder skiing!

The property is well maintained and is easy to drive to as we found out at 1 AM the night we arrived. The only hiccup was finding out that there was a welcome book on the second to last day of our visit. The book has instructions on how to operate certain appliances and hints about how things work, but we figured everything out on our own.

We all loved the house and would stay at the property again, and again, and again etc.

Thank you for allowing us to use this property!
