The Red House is a lovely Victorian located in the residential west side of Livingston. Built in the early 1900’s, the Red House has been fully renovated and tastefully furnished to provide you with an elegant and cozy vacation home. Its convenient location provides something for everyone. It is four blocks from Sacajawea Park & the beautiful, wild Yellowstone River. A ten minute stroll takes you to Livingston’s vibrant downtown where you can enjoy restaurants, bars and shopping. Yellowstone National Park is but an hour away and Bridger Bowl is a 50 minute drive.

You will find yourself close to so many activities, such as hiking, fishing, skiing, biking, floating and soaking, that it may be hard to decide what to do each day! We love Livingston and we feel you will too! Come stay here, enjoy our small town hospitality and let your worries and stress melt away.

If we can do anything to make your stay more special (anniversary, birthday, wedding, graduation, or family reunion celebrations), don’t hesitate to give us a shout and we will make arrangement for you or hook you up with the right information.

BEDROOMS AND BATHROOMS: The main floor has a bedroom with its own full bath, queen bed, sitting chair, night table & lots of closet space. There are two bedrooms upstairs. One is the master bedroom with a queen sleigh bed, connected bathroom (shower only) and a separate walk-in dressing room. In the master sitting area, there’s a TV and an adjustable sofa which can convert into additional sleeping. The other upstairs bedroom is tastefully furnished with a double bed, a large 3 drawers night table, antique small side table, comfy chair, small cabinet & closet. Additional sleeping space can be found in the living room on the leather queen sleeper sofa. There is an additional half bath on the main level. Sheets are high thread count with high quality brand name pillow-top mattresses to ensure your comfort.

KITCHEN AND DINING: The kitchen is completely new with a full selection of cookware and tableware. There is a butler’s pantry/wet bar right off the kitchen for your entertaining convenience. The dining table seats 6 comfortably with room for two additional side chairs for a larger crowd. An antique sideboard close by houses linen and additional serving ware. There is a breakfast nook in the kitchen where you can share your morning coffee.

LIVING ROOM: The living area has a luxurious Italian leather sleeper sofa, leather chair, fabric slipper chair and a chaise lounge situated around a large leather ottoman which can serve as additional seating when needed. The dining area is open to the living area allowing some to linger around the table after dinner while others ease into the living room to relax. There are large windows in both areas that flood the rooms with a warm glow in the evenings.

OUTDOOR ENTERTAINMENT: The Red House has a covered front porch with comfy seating to relax and watch small town life drift by. For more privacy, enjoy outdoor relaxing and dining in the backyard under the large maple tree. Kick back and chill or show off your outdoor cooking skills on the large gas grill. There is plenty of room for parties of twelve or more.

INTERNET: Full Internet capability.

AIR CONDITIONING: No central air nor window AC, but as with most mountain homes, we open all windows once the sun goes down and close them by 9AM to keep in the cool mountain air. The house stays comfortable throughout the day if you follow this guideline. We also provide fan for each bedroom and living room.

ACTIVITIES NEARBY: Recreational opportunities are just minutes away with an extensive trail network for hiking, horseback riding, biking and cross country skiing. The town of Livingston has a good selection of fine and casual dining and an abundance of art galleries and unique shops. The Livingston Roundup Rodeo and parade, Summerfest and monthly downtown art walks are favorites with both locals and visitors. Yellowstone National Park is just an hour away and our well loved Paradise Valley is reachable within 15 minutes. There's so much to do that you may never want to leave!

Some of the art displayed on our walls is by Parks Reece (a friend and a nationally known artist) and other local artists. Chau is also a jewelry & metal smithing artist. Chau's cool creations can be found along with Parks' works at galleries in downtown Livingston (B-Hive, Frame Garden, Parks Reece gallery & Livingston Center for Art & Culture). You will usually meet Parks at our town summer art walks!

About Chau Nguyen

Chau (like Jo but with ‘ch’ sound) Nguyen and her family moved to Montana in 1996 looking for a slower pace and a higher quality lifestyle. They lived in the Shields Valley area for the first 6 years but later moved to Livingston to be closer to the town activities and more involved with the community.

When the children were little, Chau was an at home mom and a potter. Once her kids started school Chau was able to have more time teaching art classes at the non profit Livingston Center for Art and Culture (LCAC) and resumed her career as a business analyst at a local online printing company, PrintingForLess. In 2013, Chau semi retired from the corporate world to manage her Red House rental and to be a full time jewelry artist. Chau's hobbies are traveling, cooking with friends and reading.

Nowadays, Chau enjoys taking care of the Red House, provides enjoyment for her guests and spending more time honing her skills in metal smithing and enameling for her jewelry. Chau loves traveling and cooking with her friends. If you have questions about Livingston, Montana and/or your stay here, Chau would be happy to speak to you.

Chau Nguyen purchased this house in 2005

Why Chau Nguyen chose Yellowstone Country

We purchased the Red House as an investment rental and were leasing it on a yearly term. We love old homes with their unique character & have put lots of time, work & updates to the home. Recently, we decided to offer it as a short term vacation rental so we can share one of “the last best places” with more guests. The house is very comfortable, spacious and inviting.

What makes this house unique

Livingston is a friendly town with a wonderful small home town feel where we all watch out and help each other. There are plenty of outdoor guide services available for those who want to fly fish or hike and need a hand. Also great rafting and floating opportunities.

The Red House is well furnished and comfortable with all amenities of home. Great large shady back yard for relaxing and sharing an outdoor meal with your family & friends.

Convenient location - easy walking distance to grocery, park, river, movie theatre and local downtown eateries. You can choose to either get away from it all or immerse yourself in outdoor adventures & festivals. Outdoor enthusiasts, nature lovers, artists and writers, this place is your home!

Exactly as pictured, great host!

Wow - our group of 8 was so impressed by the cleanliness, space, maintenance, and beautiful decor and furnishings of this home. Chau greeted us, walked us through the house, and lives nearby. We felt taken care of. Easy check-in and out. The kitchen is very well stocked. The beds are comfortable. The living room was a great place to be together. The neighborhood is quiet and well cared for. We walked to downtown shops and breakfast. We drove 15 minutes to Pine Creek Lodge music night. We drove a few minutes to the Uncorked Wine and Cheese Bar, dinner at 2nd St Bistro, and to the movies. Even the neighborhood mail carrier was friendly and greeted us. The porch and yard are a great place to sit outside. We're coming back!

Clean , comfortable and well supplied.

Everything my family of five plus my parents needed (including a picnic basket) to enjoy a week exploring the city of Livingston, and nearby attractions. The kids had so much fun in the local park, playing basketball and playing with the neighbor kids that they never wanted to leave the red house. We enjoyed this home away from home so much that we hope to make it a yearly trip. Loved the owners, loved the house and loved the town!

Repeat stay!

  • 5 of 5

We decided to spend a month in Livingston for the holidays this past December for the month. We had stayed at the red house 2 years ago, had a great experience, so we were happy to stay there again. We were having family visit the week of Christmas, so we needed 3 bedrooms. It was an overall great time, and everyone was comfortable.

I highly recommend the Red House! It was in a great location for all 3 of our outdoor adventures! We ventured out to Yellowstone (twice), went dog sledding and skiing!

Well maintained, comfortable, charming generous owner.

As soon as I locked the door for the final time, I wanted to go back in. It felt like I was leaving home. It was a great house for the 6 of us, (two children), excellent beds, large sunny kitchen with silverware, dishes, glasses to serve 20-30, every appliance you'd want and cooking pans. We liked the large dining table (placemats, napkins, etc.) and comfortable furniture in the living room. The backyard had nice furniture and terrific, top of the line BBQ. The owner has provided for every need...spices, condiments in the fridge, dish and laundry soap, shampoo and shower gel!! Plus notes strategically placed to explain/describe things that might not be apparent at first glance. We were happy to have access to the large washing machine and dryer. The Red House made our stay fun and comfortable. I certainly would recommend this property to friends and relatives.

Owner's Response: Thank you Mary for being such great guests and taking care of our home. We aim to provide a home away from home with all comforts and amenities. I'm very glad you agree. You were so kind, easy to communicate with and very sweet to ask after my sister's health after you already left. We would love to have you back for a longer stay next time!

Week at the Red House

  • 5 of 5

Our family (four of us) had a relaxing, comfortable and very enjoyable week at the Red House. The home is very well maintained. It has a large back garden with gas grill for eating dinner outside: hardly anything beats eating outside on a Montana summer evening.

Previous homes we have stayed at were furnished with cast-off, uncomfortable furniture: not this lovely home! Plush towels, lovely bedding...

We plan to stay for two weeks next year.

I'm glad Peter and Suellen you enjoyed your stay again this year and all is still to your liking. I'm looking forward to welcome you back next year. Let us know when we should reserve your two weeks dates. Thank you for taking care of our Red House!

Pleasantly Surprised

  • 5 of 5

From the outside, one may wonder how will this accommodate my party? My guest and I were taken aback at how much room there was and how comfortable it was. For everyone. We had a great time. From the kickoff outdoor grill get together on Friday to the "Cards Against Humanity" party with my daughter's Livingston friends on my birthday. Comfortable, clean and cute. When the opportunity presents itself, we will be here again.
