getaway to a simpler time

  • 5 of 5

Staying here felt like a trip back in time. Wooden walls, three-sided porch made out of old-style lumber, old-fashioned screen doors. and creaky windows. You can feel the history that this place has seen many years of enjoying the beach. However, it is a very old building, so be prepared to accept that and be gentle with it. I liked that it's right on the beach. It's not an ocean beach with waves and lots of sand, just on the bay, but you can still swim and kayak and it's private. Lots of wildlife too, horseshoe crabs came up to the shore, all kinds of birds in the morning, and plenty of annoying beach files too. We had a good time and I loved the breeze that blew through the house.

worst house ever visited

  • 2 of 5

we were very unhappy with the house: old, dirty, full of biting flies and mosquitoes(nets are ripped everywhere, so didn't save us).beach is not clean with many sharks, swimming around there,so, we had to go to Rehobooth and Lewis beaches everyday(my husband caught 4 sharks there).the last 500 feet of the road heading to the house is always flooding because of the river in front of the house. cars swam to the house. we just leased a brand new Toyota Highlander before the vacation, so now we had to wash the bottom of the car at the dealership, because the water was salty. some of us often couldn't take a shower, because there was simply no water, and they had to wait for it for 30-50 minutes. grocery shops and restaurants are at least 25 minutes away from the property. there are no linens, towels, dish soap in the house. spiders, their webs, and insects are everywhere at the ceilings. the house is no worth the money

worst summer house ever visited!

  • 2 of 5

There were 10 of us, including kids, staying for a week at this house. Even kids did not like the house. First of all, no one warned us that the last 500 feet are always flood, so our cars had to swim in order to get to our driveway. We even caught fish there.Good we had jeeps, but we just leased a brand new Toyota Highlander before the vacation:now it is all salty,we have to take it to the dealership to wash the bottom.Second, the house is old and dirty, full of spiders, biting flies and mosquitoes, because of the river in front of the house. We were all eaten. Third, there is no normal parking space like all other nearby houses have, but we couldn't park one of the cars alongside the house, because an old man?? told us we weren't authorized. Firetruck had to go through that way!!! there are so many wires! how would the firetruck go through? Forth, the beach is full of sharks, and dirty, so we had to drive an hour every day to Rehobooth and Lewis beaches. We saw people on the beach maybe 2-3 times. Probably they did the same thing, because they had a lot of kids as well. Fifth, very often a few of us couldn't take a shower and had to wait it back for 30-50 minutes, because there was no more water in the faucets. Water is stinky. Sixth, when I wrote about some of these issues to the real estate Jessica, she even didn't bother to respond and at least say sorry. I have never rented the house before, which has no LINENS, TOWELS, SOAP, EVEN DISH SOAP! The house is very far away from everything. You go to the grocery shop or restaurant at least 25 minutes. House smells of dampness. They didn't return a security deposit. We were very unhappy with this house. Disgusting!

Excellent for the price. Truly lasting memories.

  • 4 of 5

The property is located between the river/marsh and the beautiful Delaware Bay. We awoke each morning to the sound of seagulls, the water lapping against the shore, and a pristine view of the bay. Despite being near other homes, the location is very remote. Plan accordingly as the nearest grocery store is a 20 minute drive and there are no local convenience shops. The main road does flood, however, it's only about 4 inches of water at most and we saw many low-riding cars (like a Prius) make it though easily. This review would have five stars if they would address some of the structural issues; needs an interior paint job, downstairs bathroom is not well ventilated, some windows missing screens, downstairs bedroom smells a bit moldy, siding beginning to detach on exterior. Otherwise, our entire family LOVED this place and we would certainly consider a second stay in the future. The property includes two kayaks, beach chairs, and lots of beach toys for the kids. The house has plenty of plates, utensils, pots and pans, and two working refrigerators. There's a propane grill to use as well; the spare tank was empty but we had no need to use it. Would highly recommend this location over the congestion and expense of Rehoboth or Lewes.

Rustic Home on the Beach - Everything you need for a relaxing trip!

  • 4 of 5

We had a great long weekend here at this cute home. Its a bit off of the beaten track but everything we wanted and needed for a quiet weekend away.

A few items to bring along:

Trash bags, dish soap, K-CUPS (no traditional coffee maker)

Paper products, linens

The kitchen is well stocked for make of your cooking needs and the grill was filled with gas and ready for grilling.

The beach equipment was a big plus - sea kayaks, beach chairs, sand toys!

No bathtub - tough for a small child but we made it work.

We would stay here again.

Don't stay here

  • 2 of 5

This property is fine. You get what you pay for. I know some of the other reviews talk about some of the stuff the property managers cannot control (horse flies, flooded road coming into property, rocky beach, etc) but my biggest concern was the property managers themselves and the LACK of communication and the property just needing basic updates (this house cannot be up to code with the ac units and electrical cords everywhere). We checked into the property on 8/21 emailing Stephanie ASAP about the house not being cleaned from the previous people. It was filthy. Medical supplies left, sunglasses, left over food in the sink (which resulted in a TON of flies in the kitchen), dirty sheets left in hampers and dog hair everywhere. Like I said it was filthy. So I emailed her right away letting her know the condition of the house and to this day we'be never got a response. Now I will say we did have a cleaning lady show up around 5pm asking for my husband to drive her back to her car to get her cleaning stuff (what?!) resulting in us not being able to leave for dinner because she had no car (road was flooded) so my husband had to drive her back. I mean the list goes on. When we first looked into this properly I kept sugar coating this property and I'm telling you, please take your money elsewhere. If you're dead set on stay at Bowers beach do yourself a favor and stay at another property or go more towards Lewes and get a cleaner and better run property.
