We had a great long weekend here at this cute home. Its a bit off of the beaten track but everything we wanted and needed for a quiet weekend away.
A few items to bring along:
Trash bags, dish soap, K-CUPS (no traditional coffee maker)
Paper products, linens
The kitchen is well stocked for make of your cooking needs and the grill was filled with gas and ready for grilling.
The beach equipment was a big plus - sea kayaks, beach chairs, sand toys!
No bathtub - tough for a small child but we made it work.
We would stay here again.
This property is fine. You get what you pay for. I know some of the other reviews talk about some of the stuff the property managers cannot control (horse flies, flooded road coming into property, rocky beach, etc) but my biggest concern was the property managers themselves and the LACK of communication and the property just needing basic updates (this house cannot be up to code with the ac units and electrical cords everywhere). We checked into the property on 8/21 emailing Stephanie ASAP about the house not being cleaned from the previous people. It was filthy. Medical supplies left, sunglasses, left over food in the sink (which resulted in a TON of flies in the kitchen), dirty sheets left in hampers and dog hair everywhere. Like I said it was filthy. So I emailed her right away letting her know the condition of the house and to this day we'be never got a response. Now I will say we did have a cleaning lady show up around 5pm asking for my husband to drive her back to her car to get her cleaning stuff (what?!) resulting in us not being able to leave for dinner because she had no car (road was flooded) so my husband had to drive her back. I mean the list goes on. When we first looked into this properly I kept sugar coating this property and I'm telling you, please take your money elsewhere. If you're dead set on stay at Bowers beach do yourself a favor and stay at another property or go more towards Lewes and get a cleaner and better run property.
They've done a great job with what they have. It's whimsical and fun, for sure. However, there are significant negatives.
The road leading to the house floods during high tide, trapping smaller/lower vehicles in or out.
The bay was very warm--not at all refreshing. We've spent time in Broadkill and never had the same experience, so I'm not sure if it was the location or what.
And most of all--the flies. They're terrible. It's nearly impossible to spend time outside, even on the screen porch, because there are so many holes and tears in the screen that let the flies in. We addressed this with the realty office/management company to no avail.
The downstairs bathroom is in dire need of an update
The water is potable, but tastes and smells awful, so make sure you have bottled water to drink. There is also a warning that it may stain clothing, so think twice about plans to do laundry during your stay.
Bottom line--I could have gotten a 3 bedroom townhome at the end of Rehoboth Ave for the same price, which is what I would have done if I could go back in time.
Awesome doesn't come close. The ambiance was perfect and welcoming. After going to Delaware for over 15 yrs and vacationing at the "tourist" spots we found our piece of heaven. By far the most relaxing, comfortable and peaceful vacation ever. Being able to sit on the beach any time day/night made for lots of memories. Hoping to be able to return again. The kyacks were an added plus as our group made use of them often.
Here with family from Texas and could not have asked for more of a perfect vacation. The home is just what you would see in a beach cottage magazine...a traditional shabby chic summer get away. Loved the privacy, the sea turtles, kayaking, bike rides and bonfires on the beach. Even when I did need to do some work, the views behind my laptop working from the porch were awesome. Bayfront views from the front with wetlands behind the home. Just magical.
Welcome to 'Delaware's Best Kept Secret' Bowers Beach is a remote quiet beach town, perfect for families and relaxation.
