2 Bedroom 1 Bath On a 10 Acre Evergreen Forest
Offering privacy and relaxation only 15 minutes from town, our 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom cabin retreat is on a 10 acre forest in a lush valley surrounded by 14,000 foot mountain peaks.
The towns of Alma and Fairplay are only 15 minutes away, and Breckenridge and Buena Vista (hot springs and rafting!) are 30 minutes away.
The master bedroom has a queen bed, and the 2nd bedroom has a bunk bed with a trundle to sleep 3. The cabin also has a loft with private reading area.
The kitchen is equipped with commercial grade cookware, toaster, coffee pot, blender, microwave, citrus juicer, an ice cream maker, and other home chef basics.
The living room includes a plush and cozy rug with leather sofas in front of the fireplace with a massive stone chimney. The living room also features a flat screen TV, DVD player, Wii, and WiFi internet.
Outside, you can relax on the deck seated at the bistro set while grilling at the gas, cast-iron grill or gazing at the hummingbirds. Or, you can dine at the picnic table, or roast marshmallows at the fire pit from the hand-made, red cedar Adirondack chairs.
Hike the 'Red X Trail' on the property or walk the scenic road and spot elk, foxes, or moose hanging out in the nearby lakes and ponds.
The nearby towns of Fairplay, Alma, and Buena Vista offer plenty of nightlife, festivals, art, food, and relaxation for travelers of all ages.
Fairplay: Check out Coyote Creek Gallery with world class artists who often lead classes ranging from raku pottery to alcohol ink. Just 2 miles from the cabin is the Beaver Ponds Environmental Center, hosting classes ranging from fiber arts to horticulture to alternative energy.
Alma: Head into Alma, 'the highest town in North America' and enjoy some live music with the locals at the South Park Saloon or Alma's Only Bar. Both towns boast '14-ers' mountains to climb--4 within just a 15 minute drive and you can see most of them from the Red X trail!
Buena Vista: Don't miss the gorgeous drive to Buena Vista where you can climb other 14ers, explore the Arkansas River by raft, soak in the hot springs at Mt. Princeton or Cottonwood Springs, and enjoy craft beer at Eddyline Brewery.
Breckenridge is also a short 30 minute drive over the continental divide at Hoosier Pass if you want to check out the tourist attractions there such as the Mountain Adventure Park.

About Ann Loeffler
We bought this cabin to enjoy what brought us to Colorado over 10 years ago. We have traveled and lived in many parts of the world, ranging from New Jersey to Ohio to Tokyo, and our cabin is unrivaled for its beauty, solitude, excitement, and rejuvenation. Since we plan to do some more travelling, we thought we'd open up our cabin for others to enjoy. This cabin is a special place our family enjoys, and we hope it can be that kind of place for you as well.
Ann Loeffler purchased this Cabin in 2012
Why Ann Loeffler chose Valley of the Sun
Top 10 things we love about this cabin: 1) Not driving on I-70 to get access to the most gorgeous parts of Colorado; 2) Not seeing any other homes or neighbors outside our windows; 3) Sitting around the stone hearth and fireplace while playing board games and telling stories; 4) Hiking 14ers from trailheads only minutes away; 5) Soaking in hot springs only 30 minutes away; 6) Seeing moose, elk, and other wildlife all the time; 7) Hiking the Red X trail; 8) Seeing our kids building forts and making their own fun in nature; 9) Easy access to Breckenridge for skiing and more touristy stuff; 10) Hanging with the Alma locals--artists, musicians, and other interesting characters at the South Park Saloon.
What makes this Cabin unique
Our taste is very simple and informed by our travels around the world. On our bookshelves, you'll find maps, nature guides, and works by Tolstoy and Neruda, as well as Dr. Seuss. On our walls, you will find original art work and framed trail maps from past and present. Our home is decorated with simplicity in mind, just 'mountain modern' decor. This is our Happy Place, and we hope to make it yours too.

Nice quiet, peaceful retreat
Property was as advertised. My wife and I had a great time and enjoyed the cabin very much. Plenty of things to do nearby, and also a nice fire pit on the property. We came out in our Honda Fit, which was fine since the weather was nice but might not be enough in inclement weather! :-) Lots of scenic views along dirt roads in the area.
Very relaxing place
Nice area to see. Even saw 2 moose right beside the house one morning! Enjoyed South Park museum and different passes Weston,Boreas, Horseshoe....
Great family getaway
We had a lovely time at the cabin! It was a good size for our family of six (our 3 bigger kids shared the bunk room and the baby fit in the queen room with us in his pack n play). The kids loved the reading loft, and would have loved to sleep up there if we'd brought along sleeping pads and sleeping bags. The property was great for exploring, although the mosquitoes were really bad. Bring long sleeves, pants, hats, and strong bug spray if you go during the summer! We had lots of fun excursions to Buena Vista, Breckenridge, and Fairplay. It's a fantastic base for mountain adventures!
My wife and I really enjoyed this property and it's location. It was very clean and organized. The owner was terrific! She had thoughtfully stocked the cabin with many helpful items. It was decorated and furnished very nicely, what a cozy place! We would recommend this place to everyone and plan to go back again!
Couldn't be more at peace with nature. Beautiful and relaxing and yet at arms length to even more!
The cabin was cute, cozy and very clean. Accomedations were great providing everything we needed. Great hiking and biking. Breckinridge is also filled with fun and activity . I would recommend.
If you want to get away from it all, this is the perfect place. From the minute I stepped into the cabin I felt at home. Not even the rain could dampen my enjoyment.
Secluded among the aspen and evergreens, you are likely to see hummingbirds, moose, elk, and other wildlife especially near the lakes and ponds just by stepping outside your door. Go for a hike on our 10 acres of woodlands, or tackle one of the many non-techhnical 14-ers (14,000+ mountain peaks) within 15 minutes of the cabin. Enjoy live music with the laid back locals in Alma, North America's highest town. Peruse or create your own fine art at Coyote Creek Gallery in Fairplay. Kids' nature activities abound at the Beaver Creek Environmental Center only a couple of miles from the cabin. Head south of the cabin to soak in the hot springs and get a massage at Cottonwood Hot Springs in Buena Vista, where you can also enjoy craft beer at Eddyline Brewery and get fresh cheese from the local goat farm. Or you can cross the continental divide 20 minutes away and head into Breckenridge for its many tourist attractions--shops, mountain adventure park, and more great hiking! And at night when you're sitting by the roaring fire and stone hearth, don't forget to step outside and gaze at the multitude of stars!
