About Ann Willis and Fred Willis

Ann and Fred Willis have lived in the Sarah Jane Clifford House (the main house) for 20 years. The Willises renovated the existing houses on the property, which included the main house and a carriage house, and built what is now a third house, the Sarah Clifford Cottage. The Willises have been in the real estate business since 1999 through their privately owned company, and have renovated several of their properties and built a country house on an island near Charleston. The Sarah Clifford Cottage has the distinctive characteristics of a Willis renovation: modern, uncluttered, clean-lined, high quality construction and finishes, and attention to detail.

Ann Willis and Fred Willis purchased this cottage in 1993

Why Ann Willis and Fred Willis chose Charleston

Way to do "do" Charleston!

  • 5 of 5

From the moment I arrived, Ann and Fred were readily available to welcome me with a smile. They explained how everything worked in the property and also offered many informational resources for my visit such as maps, restaurant recommendations, yoga studios, etc. The apartment is immaculate, stylish, updated and has all the amenities any discerning traveler would need. I was there for a month and there was an excellent weekly cleaning service. The fridge was stocked with basic necessities as well! The location is excellent, walking distance from museums in town, the Marion farmer's market and King Street, the main shopping and restaurant hub. Ann and Fred were always on hand to answer my questions and help me out with a cheerful disposition and good old fashioned southern friendliness. I strongly recommend not just the property but also the experience I had with Ann and Fred, exquisite people. I can't wait to come back to Charleston!

Charleston Modern and Historic

  • 5 of 5

This property that my husband and I stayed in for our first visit to Charleston may have spoiled us for life! We arrived via Uber at the property and were immediately greeted by one of the owners, after having multiple email exchanges with Ann about our arrival time and when we might need to be shown around the property. They even offered to help us with transportation if need be! Fred was gracious and lovely and the cottage was in pristine condition for our stay. Fred was also helpful with advice immediately about where to walk to get a bottle of wine and groceries if needed. The kitchen is a work of art and anyone who likes to cook will enjoy the brand new amenities and lovely sitting area with multiple views, seating for dining and full bathroom. The style of the cottage is modern, with very tasteful art and beautiful wood cabinets and tables in the kitchen/living room area. The bedroom was also lovely and comfortable and anyone could imagine using the study to get some work done, while being able to walk practically anywhere and be right in the middle of downtown Charleston. The location is amazing for its access to both restaurants and historic homes, as well as the water and aquarium. We made reservations ahead of time with help from the owners who gave us great recommendations, which were very detailed and helpful. We had dinner on our first night at the Peninsula Grill, and the following night at FIG. Their attention to detail is superb and obvious throughout the property, and they even provided us with breakfast supplies so we could relax upon arrival. I highly recommend this property for anyone who wants to visit the city, or perhaps spend time at the local university and enjoy the proximity to everything one might need or enjoy about Charleston, with some of the best hosts you could have.

Great property, great location in Charleston!

  • 5 of 5

This property is great! Very comfortable for two people, the location is perfect for walking to all shopping, food, sights, etc. We enjoyed ourselves and will for sure go back. The Willis's were very accommodating to our travel schedule for an early arrival, and were helpful with questions and had great information for things to do in the area, places to eat. Highly recommend this property, you will not be disappointed!

Fabulous Stay at The Sarah Clifford Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Great location! Great place! Great hosts! Thank you Ann and Fred for sharing your wonderful house, it was the perfect base for Charleston. The cottage is an easy walk to most of the wonderful sites and restaurants in Charleston. The house is clean, spacious, beautifully furnished, and has great wifi. I especially LOVED the bed (so comfy!) and the luxurious linens. Ann and Fred were wonderful hosts and kindly answered all our questions (it was our first trip to Charleston) and gave us fantastic restaurant recommendations (can't wait to return to Fig someday!). I highly recommend this house.

Impressive Charleston Cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a great experience in March that my husband and I returned to this Cottage in April. Once again, we were so impressed with the Willis Cottage. Located in a charming Charleston neighborhood, the location is walkable to all of Charleston's highlights. This is a meticulus cottage.Every detail has been considered from the comfortable King Bed, to the coffee and artisan blackberry jam. We will return for the Spoleto festival. Lucky us!
