About Val Miltner

Hi, I'm Val. My husband, Mark, and I grew up in Cadillac. We have 2 adult children. Mark has a passion for the Pine River and loves to paddle. He began a canoe livery service on the Pine River in 1971. That business has now grown to include kayaks, rafts, stand-up-paddleboards, and a campground, AKA-Pine River Paddlesports Center. In addition to helping out with the family business, I also teach at a small Christian School in Cadillac. Mark and I consider it a blessing to be able to live in Northern Michigan, and make a living doing what we enjoy.

Val Miltner purchased this house in 2000

Why Val Miltner chose Northwest

We built 2 homes on the Pine River. We wanted to sell one, however, until a buyer comes along we are renting it as the Pine River Vacation Rental. We have enjoyed the many guests we have hosted there and consider many our friends, and look forward to their return each year.

What makes this house unique

The location of the Pine River Vacation Rental is surrounded by state and federal public land. Things to do 'out-the-back-door' would include: paddling, fishing, swimming, hiking (or) x-country skiing the marked and maintained trail nearby, snowmobiling, hunting, outdoor grilling and picnicking next to the river, and relaxing on the spacious deck(s). Up the road a 1/2 mile is the snowmobile and ORV trail system. Eight miles north is Caberfae Peaks Ski & Golf Resort. 55 miles north is Traverse city, 45 miles west is Lake Michigan.

We rented this home because of the close proximity to Caberfae Peaks. It was perfect! The home is beautiful. Very clean, comfortable beds and linens. Plenty of space for everyone. Well equipped kitchen. Big bathrooms. No wifi and almost zero cell phone reception, which was ok, because we got to disconnect and be a family. The views to the snow covered river were breathtaking. Even the teenager was impressed :)

Riverfront property on the Pine River, a national scenic river way.

  • 5 of 5

This immaculate home is designed to enhance the million dollar view of the Pine River. View the river from the living room, dining room, kitchen and upstairs den. I like everything about this home including the art pieces, the comfortable beds and the cleanliness. Deck chairs and river tubes are provided by the owners. I kayaked to the home from Skokum access, had lunch then continued down to Lincoln Bridge for a perfect 4 hour float. The next day I floated from the home to Dobson bridge for another 4 hour float trip. The third day was spent on the busier section of the Pine river from Dobson to Low Bridge. The owners also own Pine River Paddle Sports and can outfit you or just give you paddling information.

Lovely Home

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, our two children, and a couple of their friends had a wonderful vacation in this home. As soon as we pulled up to the house, I knew it was everything that I hoped it would be. The lot is large and private with the scenic Pine right in the front yard. The house is beautiful, immaculate, homey and comfortable. Thanks Val and Mark - we had so much fun!

Perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed the comfort and location of this property. It sits at rivers edge where the water as well as deer, eagles and songbirds can be viewed from towering windows. Wonderful property and the owners are very nice. Will be back.

Perfect winter getaway

  • 5 of 5

Disconnect from the mobile world at this house! It was just what me and my friends were looking for! The house was great for hanging out together and playing games. Watching the deer graze in the woods was amazing. Val was a great host! We will definitely consider coming back next year!
