Notes
- This charming cottage dependency is sited on 23 acres in the rolling hills of northern Culpeper County. There are beautiful views of nature from every window. Located near wineries, boutique shopping, Civil War sites, reenactments, and other historic attractions such as Montpelier and Monticello, an hour from Washington, D.C., less than an hour from The University of Virginia in Charlottesville, minutes from Commonwealth Park. Special features of the property include the foundation stones of Jameson's Mill, a corn and grain mill that once operated on Muddy Run in the 1700s. The mill took its name from Revolutionary War Col. John Jameson who owned the property. He is famous for playing a role in the capture of Benedict Arnold. A magnificent 600-year-old white oak still shelters the remains of the miller's cottage. Many bullets, pottery shards, and other historic artifacts have been unearthed behind the main house, evidence of a Confederate encampment.

Ask a questionAbout Theresa Knight
The owners, a cyber security analyst and a romance novelist, live in an old farmhouse on the property. They have called Culpeper County home since their marriage 28 years ago and raised their four children there.
Theresa Knight purchased this Cottage in 2005
Why Theresa Knight chose Culpeper
We bought the property because we have always wanted to renovate an old farmhouse and fell in love with this one the first time we saw it! We added the guest house three years later. Jameson's Mill once stood on our property along Muddy Run. The mill is shown on pre-Civil War maps. There is a 600-year-old White Oak that stands above the foundation stones of the old miller's cottage and a Black Walnut that a state forestry expert believes could be the largest in Virginia. It was "certainly the largest one" he'd ever seen.
What makes this Cottage unique
The cottage sits on 23 acres surrounded by cattle, sheep and horse farms. We love seeing the water birds, woodpeckers, deer, lightning bugs and dragon flies and consider ourselves fortunate to live in such a beautiful, unspoiled place!
