Along with the very comfortable suite for two you will also be welcomed with fresh flowers picked right out of my botanical gardens just for you, orchid plants in bloom that were grown in my shade house, and a fruit basket full of fresh local fruits, whatever happens to be in season at the time and will be replenished during your stay. Ka Hale Huna offered peaceful tranquility and beautiful views from our private lanai. Morning wake up calls were provided compliments of the tropical birds in the canopy just outside our door. We were welcomed with a basket of fresh fruit havested from Char's lovingly tended gardens, macadamia nuts, and 100% Kona coffee. The personal garden tour is not to be missed. Char's personal knowledge of the area proved quite valuable, as she provided advice on the best eateries and places to visit, often frequented by only the locals "in the know". We will most certainly return to Ka Hale Huna on our next visit to the North Shore.

Spectacular views Warm welcoming Chantelle !

  • 5 of 5

The quarters were spacious clean inviting and quiet. We were greeted by Chantelle who was gracious and welcoming and gave us a terrific tour of the property and gardens. Fragrant big gardenias and fresh fruit and coffee grown on the premises were in a beautiful basket in our room. The wide deck featured sweeping views of the garden and valley below with a glimmer of the Pacific in the distance. The sunset from this vantage point was brilliant in it's ribbons of color. The sound of the birds songs and the cockadoodledo of the crow and the gentle rythum of the wind chimes bids you an early good morning. The beach is a breathtaking ride away and the Foodland store is conveniently located. A truly magical time!

Beautiful, tropical, Private, peaceful, quiet

  • 5 of 5

We had booked another VRBO in Haleiwa. It was so loud and so noisy from the highway, we decided to check out. We found Char's peaceful oasis! If you want a relaxing, quiet, tropical Hawaiian get-a-way this is the place! The house and it's grounds are simply stunning. It is close to the beaches and Haleiwa, but yet away from all the noise and congestion. The rental is very clean and tidy. Everything needed for a comfortable stay. My favorite was listening to the birds and smelling the breeze each morning. Chris, Char and their daughter Chandelle are very knowledgeable of the island, it's flora and fauna and local history. They gave us many tropical fruit and homemade yummy treats that Char makes. The rental is great but Char, Chris and Chandelle made the whole stay extra special with their kindness!

Private retreat on a mountain

  • 3 of 5

This rental is high on a mountain. I was unaware that I would need to drive several miles up a steep road with hairpin turns. There is a shared entrance into the unit with the property owner. The property itself is gated, but the rental unit is not lockable. No curtain covering the large sliding glass doors. Even though the unit is in a rather remote location, I would've felt more comfortable with a curtain for maintaining privacy in the sleeping area.

Owner's Response: Dear Tammy, I am so sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay to the utmost! We strive to make our guests feel welcome and comfortable. It clearly states in our description that the home is perched on a mountain ridge. We feel that the spectacular views looking down into a lush valley make up for the short drive to the ocean. While it's true that the first curve is sharp, even the local school buses don't seem to have any trouble making the turn. The shared entrance is through our beautifully appointed entryway so you don't have to pass through our home to enter yours, though I apologize if that confused you. While the rental does lock from the inside, we have lived here for 30+ years and as we are out and away from town, we have never felt a need to lock up. We are here at home most of the time as well but again, I apologize if that was other than expected. The full length curtains adorned with seashells do cover the sliding glass door overlooking the canyon, although it is indeed sheer. We will take into consideration your request for perhaps an additional curtain for added privacy. Thank you so much for taking time from your busy schedule to review our rental. We appreciate every review and we will respond to your suggestions. Sincerely and with Aloha, The owners of Ka Hale Huna

The Tropical Sanctuary We Were Hoping For

  • 4 of 5

Renting right on the beach sounded nice, but on the North Shore that means you are also right next to the busy road, which is rather nerve-jangling. When we found this property online, it sounded just right for the de-compressing we needed. We weren't disappointed. Char's house is situated in a quiet, somewhat upscale neighborhood along both sides of a canyon that is dotted with tropical trees and large shrubs. Except for a few hours of the neighbor's chainsaw, all we heard was the glorious birds. It was that quiet and peaceful. No traffic noise at all. The road, large grocery store, food trucks, and beaches are all easily reached by a 7-minute drive down the canyon road.

The apartment was charming and comfortable, just as pictured, and was well-outfitted with everything we needed. Char had left two beautiful and welcoming tropical flower arrangements for us, plus a few fruits from the Saturday Farmer's Market which we devoured. We ate breakfast there every morning. Char, our accommodating hostess, was gentle, kind, made herself available if needed, otherwise we didn't see her. She has a delightful fruit and flower garden which she happily showed us when asked. A huge Monkey Pod tree provides a canopy of shade in the back. There is a Shama Thrush family that lives on the property, and Char gave us mealworms so we could feed them from the palm of our hands.

I would suggest a sleep mask if the morning light wakes you, as the only curtains there are very sheer. Also just so you know, there is only the slightest view of the ocean that we could see from our balcony, but that didn't bother us in the least.

It was a pleasure and privilege to stay in her realm for a few sublime, healing days.

Owner's Response: I'm so happy that you enjoyed your stay and I hope that you will come back soon. I have talked with my neighbor in the valley and he has agreed to cut down the trees that are blocking the ocean views.
