About Lisa Harris

We love living in Blowing Rock. We love hiking and motorcycling in these beautiful mountains. We love living here and never want to leave. I am a designer by trade and worked in the furniture business for 30 years. It is our dream to build and own beautiful, luxury homes and share them with our guests. We love to make our guests happy.

Lisa Harris purchased this house in 2003

Why Lisa Harris chose Apple Ridge

We built this home for us. This home was built to take in all of the wonderful views of the mountains. It is the most comfortable home that I have ever lived in. You wake in the morning to the sounds of birds and nature. You can see the sunrise from the Master Bedroom.

This exquisite timber frame home is an exceptional, mountain-top haven--perfect for making lifelong memories with the ones you love. It is a stunningly beautiful Manor house that feels as though it's been pulled from the pages of House Beautiful. The wall of windows frames a stunning, ever-changing view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Every little detail of this sanctuary--from the Mission-style decor, the firepit with stacked wood awaiting your arrival, and the thoughtfully outfitted kitchen and baths--instantly engenders a feeling of home.

Being perched on a mountainside you can experience all the changing vistas that Mother Nature displays. This is the most family-friendly (including four-legged members) home you can stay in; which include the fenced yard, wrap-around porch, and three levels of living.

Not only is the house exquisite, but the location couldn't be more perfect. You will feel tucked away in a magical place, yet be only minutes from Blowing Rock and the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is convenient to Boone, Banner Elk, Valle Crucis, Grandfather Mountain, Mast General Store, hiking, waterfalls, and breweries.

When you stay at the Manor House, you'll carry home a mountain of memories--and a yearning to return!

What makes this house unique

The views from the deck and fire pit are awesome. Especially in the spring and fall. It is very peaceful and there is a large yard with plenty of space and privacy. I think the most unique benefit is the experience that comes with staying at our home. It's not just a place to sleep. It is truly part of your Blowing Rock experience.

Notes:
It is recommended that you have a true four wheel drive during the winter months of January and February. Please contact the owner for winter guarantees and arrangements. We recommend you buy the optional travel insurance in the winter months which will give you great peace of mind when working around the snow events. Appalachian Ski Mountain is only 7 miles away! We own the entire ridge where the house is located. Our private road is called Elk Ridge Lane. You can certainly walk our entire ridge with your pets and such. Many of our guests do that! But for a real hike I would recommend going into Blowing Rock which is only a 5 minute drive and starting out at Bass Lake and experiencing a truly beautiful hike with your pets or just yourselves around the lake and up to the Flat Top Manor which is the Moses Cone estate. This is a modest relaxing 5 mile hike and it is very very beautiful! You can have your pets with you as long as they are on leashes.

Memorable trip in Blowing Rock with an UNFORGETTABLE VIEW!

  • 5 of 5

What an unique property and well kept, clean, updated home! Our family of 4 had an amazing trip to Blowing Rock while staying at Bailey Camp despite the rain. Hands down one of the TOP VIEWS of any mountain home in the area. Hopefully our weather during our next visit will lend more time at the fire pit enjoying the view and fresh air. Before the rain, we did have time with the kids to have a scavenger hunt through the woods; I felt completely safe for me and my preschool age kids to explore as it's not too steep by the house. There was plenty of room for our small family but hope to bring other friends in the future whom also have a small family. House also well suitable for 3 couples. We were a little worried about the possibility of snow (not having a four wheel drive) but Lisa was very proactive and spread salt prior to our arrival despite the low possibility. If snow is likely, 4WD is a must as driveway is steep off 321 but not overwhelming. Ride into Blowing Rock was a quick and easy 8 mins and to Tweetsie/High Gravity/Gem Mining approx 15 mins. Kitchen was well stocked and there was more than enough firewood on-site (more is provided on bottom of shared driveway).

We will definitely return to this property. We are also thrilled to see they manage other properties in the area that would be very fitting as well. Lisa made our stay very easy; she was very responsive and detailed. Most of our questions were answered in the rental agreement or provided on-site via well thought out documents.

Kudos to you, Lisa! Your time and efforts to make this property an easy vacation did not go unnoticed!

Owner's Response: What a great review! I really appreciate you sending it in to let others know what we are doing. We truly strive to make the experience of this Mountain home a memorable one. A lot of places have nice amenities as does this one, but the unique experience of just being in this little part of the world is truly just that a true mountain experience! We built this home for my husband and I and love to share our mountain with other great guests as your selves. The house is private and peaceful and just simply a fun place with the land, the fire pit and the views! I look forward to you coming back in the summer or fall if you can make it. The Fall leaves are spectacular! Its also a great place for your pets as we have the enclosed fenced in area that is secure and accessible to the decks around the house.

Labor Day weekend stay 2018

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I just retired from public education in June 2018. Our 2 boys and their wives joined us on this trip. We wanted a place that could accommodate all that, and relax. The property gave us a private and relaxing atmosphere with all the comforts of home. We also enjoyed the proximity of Blowing Rock, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and Grandfather Mountain. Just a side note: "the view and bird watching were awesome!" My wife was especially excited about seeing a bird she had never seen, the Rufus Sided Tohee." We all got a kick out of the Hummingbirds zipping by our heads.

I would highly recommend this property to anyone desiring a great vacation spot.

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

Our second time staying at the Manor house and it was once again a delightful relaxing vacation with my family! We had a fire in the fire pit two nights, complete with s'mores, and planned our next visit. Shopped in Blowing Rock and in just a few minutes we were back at that little piece of heaven.

From its mountaintop location to its luxurious appointments, this Blue Ridge retreat has it all!

  • 5 of 5

Bailey Camp is an exceptional, mountain-top haven--perfect for making lifelong memories with the ones you love. Lisa and Paul have graciously shared a stunningly beautiful cabin that feels as though it's been pulled from the pages of House Beautiful. Their wall of windows frames a stunning, ever-changing view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Every little detail of this sanctuary--from the Mission-style decor, the firepit with stacked wood awaiting our arrival, and the thoughtfully outfitted kitchen and baths--instantly engenders a feeling of home.

From the moment we began communicating about our trip, Lisa was kind and responsive. We arrived in the midst of a late-spring snowfall, and Paul had the winding hillside drive cleared for our landing. Being perched on a mountainside while Mother Nature veiled the earth in white was glorious indeed. This is the most family-friendly (including four-legged members) home we've ever had the pleasure of staying in; we treasured the fenced yard, wrap-around porch, and three levels of living.

Not only is the house exquisite, but the location couldn't be more perfect. We felt tucked away in a magical place, yet we were minutes from Blowing Rock and the Blue Ridge Parkway. We went everywhere...Boone, Banner Elk, Valle Crucis, Grandfather Mountain, Mast General Store, hiking, waterfalls, and breweries. In fact, Lisa was kind enough to share the whereabouts of her go-to pottery shop, and we found plenty to carry home.

When you stay at Bailey Camp, you'll carry home a mountain of memories--and a yearning to return! :)

Owner's Response: I can't express how touched I was in reading your beautiful, kind and generous review! It was so thoughtful ;) You were really able to convey the peaceful feeling that the house has always had for my husband and I. We always say when we are able to come back and stay in the house, that it feels like we have never left! The beautiful panoramic photo that you sent is going up on the website for others to enjoy. The snowfall really was beautiful that day and I appreciate you sharing it with us. We look forward to having you as our guests again, hopefully real soon!

Do Not be concerned that the location says Bailey Camp! It is just on the outskirts of Blowing Rock on the South side. It is very close to the village of Blowing Rock within a 5 minute drive with outstanding restaurants and shopping. Tweetsie Railroad is only 10 minutes away and Appalachian Ski Mountain is also very close. The house is very private and provides a true mountain experience!
