Also, guests should be aware that there are two parrots near the house in a large cage under the water tower. They like to talk and sing.) As well Pablo, our white faced capuchin monkey in a large inclosure down toward the caretakers residence. Pablo is quite friendly but please understand he can be a little unpredictable sometimes. .

About Chloe Good

Hello, our names are Chris and Chloe and we live in Vancouver BC with our two children. We first came to Ometepe Island in 2010 during a family vacation to Nicaragua. Having traveled extensively, Chris arranged the holiday to include time in Granada, San Juan Del Sur, Ometepe, and the Corn Islands. While all of our time in Nicaragua was beautiful, Ometepe Island instantly captured our hearts and imagination. The friendly people and stunning scenery never left our thoughts and after returning home to Canada, we dreamed of ways to return to that sense of paradise. Two years ago we began building that dream. Inspired by our stay on Ometepe, we wanted to build a home that would be suitable for other travellers to enjoy having experienced limited variety in accommodations at the time of our stay. We completed construction and were so excited to spend our first holiday in our new home this year. We are equally excited for the opportunity to share the amazing experience of the island with other travellers looking for a home base for their next adventure.

Chloe Good purchased this house in 2012

Why Chloe Good chose Nicaragua

During our search for property on the island, we looked at many wonderful places thanks to our friend and property manager, Sam Bauer. What we liked most about this property was the size and location. There are many beautiful place on the island, but travel is not so easy and we wanted to be close enough to experience access to town as well as plan day trips from the island to the mainland. This property also offered a blank canvas to build a family friendly home in a serene and beautiful setting.

What makes this house unique

This home’s location is fantastic and even on the hottest days, there is a breeze that travels throughout the property. Huge mango trees and palm trees made it easy to fall in love with the land. Now that the house is finished, it is amazing to sit on the porch and look out over the property and we are so delighted that the monkeys still come through almost every night! The open design of the house is wonderful, with the three bedrooms offering a closed space to escape to. Chloe was particularly involved in the design of this 'no bug zone' area of the house : ) We have been very fortunate to find our hard working grounds keeper Joey, who lives on site to manage the day to day property needs. Living on an elevated property in combination with city water levels that fluctuate, means that daily maintenance of the water supply is crucial, particularly in the dry season. Joey does an excellent job of making sure this happens. We have also been very fortunate to connect with Sam Bauer, Ometepe’s top selling real estate agent. Sam is a capable trustworthy longstanding resident of Ometepe, who also provides ongoing oversight for the development and rental of our property. With our connections to the island community, we feel very confident that our guest’s needs will be met.

Amazing place!! Could not have been better!

  • 5 of 5

My father and I just spent 8 days on Ometepe in this absolutely beautiful home. The home was amazing, the property was amazing and the care taker Jose was amazing! There is not enough positive ways to describe our experience at this property. The owners were great about contacting me during the entire booking process and right up to before our stay. They had a local real estate manager meet us at the dock on Ometepe and drive with us to the house. The amenities in the home were perfect. There was hot water, filtered water and everything you could possibly need. The animals that live on the property added so much fun to the experience as well. The house was clean and the breeze throughout made it very comfortable. Jose was awesome and very patient with our inability to speak Spanish. Thank God for Google Translate! We both would highly recommend this beautiful rental to anyone journeying to Ometepe.

All good except for the Property Manager, Sam.

  • 5 of 5

Sam was emailed that 6 people were arriving at the Costa Esmeralda Airport. He was to arrange transportation to San Jorge. He sent a taxi that would n't fit 6 people. As a result we were delayed while waiting for a second taxi. When he met us he was rude and denied receiving an email regarding 6 people. I later confirmed that I had sent the email to him. He is a blowhard burnout and doesn't deserve to be associated with such a wonderful property.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words regarding our rental property. We were sorry to hear about the miscommunication that occurred when arranging ground transportation before you arrived. We are very happy with our property manager and have had no complaints about his performance or attitude towards guests. He is well known in the community and feedback from guests about both Sam and Joey have always been very positive. It is important for guests to note that the time Sam spends arranging taxis and tours are not part of his regular job duties, he chooses to extend this courtesy in an effort to enhance the travel experiences of our guests. This extra support is something both we and our guests greatly appreciate. Sam continues to go above and beyond our expectations, in fact our last guests left their belongings in a taxi and he spent 2 days recovering their property for them. Guests continually email us personally to tell us how helpful he has been. Again we are sorry that you were disappointed when making transportation arrangements to get to the property. We will be sure to utilize your feedback to improve our communications with Sam around the number of guests that are staying at the house (he does not have access to this site). Thank you again for choosing to stay at our beautiful Ometepe home. We wish you all the best.

Great comfortable stay

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay here. The house is very comfortable with lots of space and amenities. It is located walking distance to the town center. It is easy to pick up a taxi or rent a scooter to get around from town. We felt like we had a good tour of the island in five days and we had a great home base to do it from. The wi-fi is great. The outdoor terrace is awesome, we spent most of our time here. We had everything we needed. Joey is extra special helpful.

We liked it and would come back.

You may not like it if ...

You don't like country/jungle noises in the morning - roosters, howlers and birds start at 5 am or earlier and their noise can be spectacular.

The concept is open air, fans and open spaces, there is no air conditioning and there are a few bugs, really not that bad and not uncomfortable.

Need access to electricity 24/7, the town doesn't have it and neither than did the house.

Like hot showers. Cold ones are very refreshing.

We Loved It!

  • 4 of 5

Our overall experience here was near perfect. There were a few minor details that could have been better but they were not significant enough to spoil our vacation. The house is spacious and airy. Even without air conditioning we were quite comfortable. The beds were comfortable. I had my best sleeps here in our 3 week vacation. I loved the morning sounds. Between the howler monkeys, roosters and parrots you couldn't help but wake up (early) in a good mood. Jose (or Joey) was very accommodating. We were able to communicate with him quite easily even though he speaks no English and we speak no Spanish.

The things that we thought were missing were a coffee maker, a dressing mirror and wine glasses. There was a coffee press which in my opinion does not make decent coffee. Joey managed to scare up an electric peculator for us. ( I suspect he lived without coffee himself for a week so that we could enjoy our morning fix) The dressing mirror would have been nice. Since I am shy of 5ft 4in I had to stand on my toes to see my face in the bathroom mirrors. The sinks are very high and consequently the mirrors are higher. And as for the wine glasses or glasses made of glass in general. The plastic glasses had a smell and taste from whatever cleaner that rendered them unusable. I had to drink my wine from a coffee mug. I know this makes me sound like a spoiled Canadian, but when you are in a big beautiful house you shouldn't have to slum it drinking wine from a coffee mug.

That said, I would highly recommend staying here. We enjoyed the parrots and the monkey. I kind of felt bad for them until I learned that they were all rescued. They all loved the fruit loops that I treated them with each morning. Joey takes very good care of them. We were also excited to see the tree that we parked under full of howler monkey one afternoon. Ometepe was a beautiful island to visit. We look forward to returning one day.

Lovely huge home with a great veranda

  • 5 of 5

We loved the house with its huge veranda and 3 bedrooms. The bathrooms had nice hot showers. Kitchen was well supplied with the basics. Even spices on the large fridge. The veranda had nice furniture like hammocks and muskoka chairs. There is a washing machine and nice to hang them in the back, is a nice plus.

The grounds are about 4 acres with many pets and chickens. The parrots in the cage near your master bedroom, start (hola) talking about 6:00am.( they were rescued from a small cage). They love bread . Pablo, white faced Capuchin monkey, that was rescued from living on a chain several months ago. He loves company and to show off.( loves to tease Crespa the dog)His treats are cheese, bread eggs and peanuts. Crespa is a lovely dog, who likes to eat everything and loves attention.

Joey the care taker, was very friendly and helpful, but gives you space. He is great with the animals. If you need to get the place cleaned just give him 100Cord or so. The place gets very silty from the cows going the dirt road.

If you take a taxi from ferry to the house, it should only cost you 40 to 50 Cordabos. Sam the manager has no car but will meet you at the dock and very helpful, if you need things to be fixed at th house. The house is behind Hotel Nicaraus just outside of town. The Internet was spotty while we there but was fixed after a few days becuase of Easter. The house has a well which was good, because the town had no water for a few days. But we did have an issue with the water not working all the time, which they are working on.

We would recommend to get a scooter for a couple of days, Willy's on the Main Street coming from Ferry, is inexpensive. $15 a day if renting for a week. Try to get the scooter that has the big tires for less bumpy ride and traction.

We went to Tyrons, were we meet expats , locals and great food( chicken rosa and Cerviche.

Bon Appetite had a good pizza and El Viejo restaurant or Central Hostal had good food and night life.

If you staying there, read my guest book entry at the house on more advice on where to go etc.
