This recently updated 2 bedroom, 1 bath with vaulted ceilings and wood floors, circa 1938, offers charm and comfort. The kitchen has been beautifully renovated with granite & stainless appliances, and is open to a bar where guests can relax and pour wine for the chef. The kitchen, dining, and living room are all open to each other, creating an inviting space for hanging out and relaxing. There is a dining table which seats 4-6 (2 extra chairs available if needed), a couch and loveseat, and a 60' flat screen which is visible from the couches as well as from the kitchen and bar. There is an outdoor patio which is very private. We call this the Hideaway because it is off the street down a narrow driveway, and so it is very peaceful and quiet, yet it is only moments away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. Both bedrooms have queen beds with beautiful linens and down comforters, and plenty of closet space. One bedroom has a dresser. There is one bathroom with a tub/shower which has also been nicely updated. If you are looking for a very clean and comfortable place to be your home base while you explore all Santa Barbara has to offer, this is the place! If you are coming for a festival, parade, special event, or just to enjoy the sights and restaurants, this location can't be beat. Enjoy our renowned Farmer's Market on State Street on Tuesday afternoons, full of local organic veggies and fruits and lovely flowers. A few blocks down is the newly constructed Santa Barbara Public Market, which offers everything one can imagine in the way of handcrafted, regionally sourced food and wine. Restaurants abound: French, Mexican, Japanese, Greek, California cuisine, Italian, Vietnamese...just to mention a few, plus bars, wine tasting shops, breweries, coffee houses, bakeries, chocolatiers and more! A quick ride on the Santa Barbara Trolley will take you down to the pier, to East and West beaches, Los Banos swimming pool, and the Harbor, where you can hop on a boat for a whale watching adventure, rent kayaks and paddle boards, bikes, and more! If you are looking to get the most out of your stay in Santa Barbara on foot, then this is the place for you.
I am a Santa Barbara native, born and raised in this incredible place. I grew up on these beaches, have explored our front country hiking trails, and feel intimately connected with the ocean and mountains here. Several times a week I walk to the Mission and rose garden, and enjoy sunset strolls on Hendry's beach. I love going to all our festivals and parades! There is something for everyone here! The restaurants are amazing, from the little 'hole in the wall' places to the fancy well-known Zagat-rated establishments. I feel blessed to live where the weather is so pleasant and the flowers are always in bloom. The plants here are lush and amazing and because of our weather we enjoy Farmer's Markets almost everyday of the week year round!!! The main thing about me is I am so happy to live here and I love to share my passion for Santa Barbara!
Staci Caplan purchased this house in 2006
Location, location, location. The perfect place to stay starts with a wonderful home base in the midst of all Santa Barbara has to offer, and the comforts you need to truly relax. This Hideaway is very clean and has everything a guest would want to feel right at home.
Lock and go! You won't need a car if you stay here. This is an urban property, in the heart of Santa Barbara, yet very quiet and peaceful.
My husband and I have stayed at quite a few HomeAway and VRBO properties over the years, and this one was one of the best. We were here for a 9 day visit to SB. The apartment has a convenient downtown location, where we could walk to everything. The kitchen was fantastic, having really everything you need to cook al sorts of nice meals. We loved that we could actually go to the amazing SB Farmer's market and actually cook at home! Bed linens and towels were better than average. Overall, very nice experience and we would definitely consider staying here for a future visit.
Great little triplex in downtown Santa Barbara. Walking distance to everything on State Street. Extremely clean. Nicely decorated and upgraded. Well laid out and appointed. Comfortable furniture. The kitchen has everything one could ask for. The owner was very easy to work with and communication was good. I would recommend this property to any couple or small family who is looking for a rental in the area.
We were in SB for a weekend wedding and were very pleased with our stay. Very clean, comfortable, and the location was unbeatable. Will stay there for our next SB trip.
The location is convenient to downtown and the freeway. The place is comfortable. You can relax in the couch or walk around the neighborhood. Staci is very responsive when you have questions. Overall a pleasant place to stay.
My wife and I decided to try a rental property instead of a hotel this time and this place made our decision the best ever!
This property more than exceeded our expectations and was exactly as it was listed. It is very quiet away from the street and parking was no issue at all. The unit was definitely a home away from home. It was super clean and had all the necesseties one could need. The beds were comfortable and lots of closet place was available. The kitchen was well equipped and we did not miss anything that we would have had at home. The spring water was a nice touch along with the charming patio that long with the bamboo plants in the back provided a quite and comfortable atmosphere to relax after a long day of walking.
The neighborhood is located just off of State Street. Staci responded quick to a couple of questions we had and was very inviting even via text. Everything is easily accessible and convenient to all that Santa Barbara has to offer. Being able to come 'home' is much better than any hotels we have visited in the area. i have already recommended this place to friends and we will definitely will be staying here on our next visit if available.
My only concern was the incremental fees. The net cost is not that much lower than staying in a nice hotel. The premise behind VRBO is loosing its uniqueness due to costs.
Parade and Festival headquarters! Located just two blocks to State Street, this property is in the perfect location to enjoy all Santa Barbara has to offer, especially if you do not want to have to drive. World class restaurants and shopping, theaters, museums, wine tasting, bars, breweries, bakeries, coffee houses, chocolatiers...all within a few blocks! On Tuesday the Farmer's Market takes over lower State Street to display a bounty of organic veggies and flowers straight from our local growers. Hop on the Santa Barbara Trolley for a quick ride down to the water front, where you can enjoy East and West beaches, the bike path, the pier, the harbor, whale watching tours, kayak and surfboard rentals, bike rentals, and evening harbor cruises. Enjoy the Santa Barbara Artwalk on Sundays, and go wine tasting in the Funk Zone. Just a few blocks away, check out the newly opened Santa Barbara Public Market, where the focus is on fresh, regionally sourced food, and only the highest quality breads, vegetables, pastas, meats and seafood are procured daily. Take a walk to the Santa Barbara Mission, the Queen of the Missions, and our Rose Garden. There are so many sights to see, incredible restaurants to visit, and beaches to enjoy! When you are ready to put your feet up and unwind, just head 'home' to the Downtown Hideaway!
