About David Berg

4th generation Yooper with a love of the Hiawatha National Forest and the surrounding outdoors. I spend as much time possible exploring out my back door and find new and wonderful places every year. The Au Train River is one of the places we always take company for a relaxing paddle. It's a great summer tradition.

David Berg purchased this cottage in 2014

Why David Berg chose Upper Peninsula

I live close by on Lake Superior and chose to purchase a rental property in Au Train because it is centrally located to many excellent outdoor activities and provides a serene experience with a touch of the old resort area feel.

What makes this cottage unique

The river is at your doorstep and Au Train Lake and Lake Superior are only a mile away. Lake Superior is not popular for swimming since it is so cold, but the beach in Au Train is a very popular swimming area. When my dad was a kid in the 1930's he would hitch rides with his friends, standing on the car's running boards, to get to this favorite beach. This area also provides great paddling opportunities in the bay, river, or dozens of nearby inland lakes. Of course the big draws are pictured rocks and grand island, but there are so many things to do in any direction. Great hiking and biking (Marquette and Munising have many miles of great mountain biking trails), boating, fishing, birding, sightseeing, and in the winter skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. Never get tired of adventure here. On the other hand, it's also a great place to kick up your feet and relax.

Incredibly relaxing, breathtaking views. House is super homey. Absolutely perfect.

The house is perfect - it's located right near a bend in the river, giving the back porch the most immaculate views (at any time of day... just wow). Kayaks are clean and in good shape, life vests are provided, and the river is docile. Inside, the house feels just like home. You can literally see all 3 doors to the house from the master bed, and everything you can possibly need is provided for you. I can't express how impressed my boyfriend and I both were with this home, and its location. Really the perfect spot, and the owner seems like the man. That was our phrase throughout our entire stay. "Do you think there's toothpicks?" "Of course, Dave's the man." And sure enough, toothpicks, there were. Wow is the only word I can go out on. Wow!

Perfect

Great place to stay close enough to waterfalls, and pictured rock yet far enough away from business of Munising. Very nice house with anything you should need. Back deck view, and river amazing. Owner very nice deposit refunded super quickly. Would Love to stay again.

Wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a wonderful time in the Au Train Area. This cottage was the perfect place to call home during our stay. Our boys enjoyed the Kayaks and even caught a few fish off the dock.

Perfectly placed

  • 5 of 5

Although the house is right off the street, you feel as though you're away from everything. Waking up to sit on the back deck every morning was amazing! Just two minutes away you will find a lovely beach on lake superior. You are minutes away from Munising where we took the Pictured Rock cruise. We enjoyed being in a quiet location, but having the opportunity to travel into town as well.

Thanks for a great stay!

Great location with the comforts of home

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying here for our visit to the Pictured Rocks National Seashore. This place is well kept and we were very comfortable during our stay. In addition to visiting the waterfalls at Pictured Rocks, we also took advantage of this property's proximity to the river to do a little kayaking. The property has some boats but we opted to rent one to limit our boat time to an hour. Loved the place and the area!
