Beachwalk is such a unique community that it is hard to explain to people who have never been there - until they arrive - and become believers themselves. I have had comments made like, 'If you would have put me in an airplane, blindfolded me, and brought me here I would have thought I was in Florida' or from an East Coast friend, 'This reminds me of the Jersey shore' (not the show - thank God - but the atmosphere). Even our friends from St Louis love coming here because it doesn't have the humidity they get down there or at the Ozarks.
The white picket fences greet you and the colorful homes amaze you yet you can settle in immediately, take a deep breath and quickly realize you are already relaxed.
Our home was designed for big groups. We created a large living space to congregate in and minimized the bedrooms (we figured the only time you want to spend in there is when you are sleeping). From the outside the home appears smaller than it is, surprising most of our guests when they first arrive. There is plenty of seating to relax and enjoy the time you spend at Picture Perfect. Speaking of the home name, we came up with it because we rent it out from September through May to scrapbooking groups for their weekend cropping getaways.
Michigan City is like a second home to me. I have been visiting the area since 1978 when my family owned a boat and we kept it in Washington Park Marina. I love the beach life and now my family and I enjoy it on a regular basis. We built our home in 2004, designed by a life-long friend who is an architect and has built three of her own homes in the Michigan City, Grand Beach, New Buffalo area. Our family of five has created many fun memories of our time spent in Beachwalk and the countless hours spent on the beach playing volleyball, frisbee, bags, building sandcastles, bodysurfing the waves, skim boarding and so much more. Our ability to get out there is changing as the kids get older so we want others to be able to enjoy the same fun lifestyle.
Gary Rachford purchased this house in 2004
Beachwalk is the only true beach community along the shores of Lake Michigan in my eyes. Having access to a tennis court, basketball court, sand volleyball court, in ground pool, putting green, playground with big slide and mini zipline is great when the beach weather is not cooperative. Set back two blocks from the beach, it provides shelter from the elements. The picket fences and front porches are comforting as you walk around the community to view the multi-colored homes with unique architectural designs.
We decided to create a large living and dining area because that is where people congregate to spend time together. The home has 2,425 sq ft of living space and a large portion of that is on the first floor. Vaulted ceilings and a gas fireplace open up the home beautifully. We installed granite countertops for durability. The hardwood and tile floors are ideal for a sandy beach house. There is a second refrigerator for 'beverages' so they don't clutter up the food storage one.
It was our first stay in Beachwalk and couldn't have had more fun. Beachwalk is a wonderful family friendly resort with tons of activities for kids and just across the street from beautiful lake Michigan. Picture Perfect was just as pictured with everything you could ever need for a great beach vacation. We had the privilege to meet the owners of our rental during or stay and they were wonderful. You won't be disappointed if you stay at Picture Perfect! We would definitely stay here again!!
Beautiful, spacious house stocked with everything you need to have a great vacation! Easy walk to beach and pool (and lots of other fun stuff too -- basketball, tennis, kayak and paddle board). We loved the Beachwalk "town" -- so pretty! Hard to believe we were only an hour from Chicago burbs. Owners were very helpful and accommodating. We will definitely be back!
I've stayed at Beachwalk several times -- each time better than the last. When we've stayed as a family of 5, there's tons of room to spread out, and a great layout that makes it easy to hang out by the fireplace watching one of their many DVDs or just playing games. The walk to the beach is super quick and it's positioned far enough from the main entrance of Beachwalk to be close to everything, but not ever noisy.
Loads to do in the area - beach, outlet mall shopping, holiday lights festival at the park only a mile away, etc. When we've come for a girls' weekend, we rotate around who heads to shopping, who goes off to the casino and who heads to Matey's for a drink. Parking is ample for a large group, and the kitchen is gorgeous and nicely appointed for preparing big meals. Wine fridge is a nice plus as well! If you come for a scrapbooking weekend, the house is outfitted with small tables for workspaces and some basic scrapbooking tools. Very good reliable wifi as well.
Mary and Gary are great to work with -- very accommodating and helpful.
