This cozy vacation cabin is located in Strawberry near Pinecrest Lake and Dodge Ridge Ski Resort. If you are looking for a picturesque mountain getaway (sleeps 6 comfortably) 1 mile from Pinecrest lake and 4 miles from Dodge Ridge, then this your place! We have a seasonal creek in the back of the property and we are a 2 min walk to the Stanislaus river, 30 miles east of Sonora, CA on highway 108.

A cozy, warm, 100% natural pine, 1200 square foot cabin at an altitude of 5200' with all of the amenities of home! Fully stocked kitchen, two bedrooms, one bath, family room, eat in kitchen, and bonus room downstairs to sleep two more. We've also just added a new billiard table, and Atari gaming console for your enjoyment. Also has over 600 square feet of decks for your outside relaxing!

There is a big deck with table, chairs, BBQ and a hammock. Sits on a super private 3/4 of an acre overlooking beautiful forest and seasonal creek. There is a nice big flat spot next to the firepit where two tents will fit, if sleeping in the great outdoors is your thing.

The Stanislaus river is just a 5 minute walk from our cabin; go back down Tanager, and cross over Old Strawberry road. Turn right at the next road (River Dr.), and about 500 feet down, there is fishing/swimming access to the river.

About Laurica Storseter

We bought this cozy vacation home in 2013 to have a place to get away from the busy bay area. My husband, I, and our two children love spending family time here hanging out at the lake, or just lounging on the deck under the pine trees

Laurica Storseter purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Laurica Storseter chose California

We both have been visiting the Pinecrest Lake/Dodge ridge ski area since we were kids. We bought this house in 2013 and have spent over a year doing lots of upgrades on it to make it a cozy getaway for all.

What makes this cabin unique

We have made our Strawberry cabin as comfortable and relaxing as possible as this is what vacationing in the mountains is all about. We also added some things such as a billiard table, gaming console, outdoor fire pit, rope swing, and horseshoe pit to keep you entertained. We hope you and your families enjoy your stay as much as we do.

Being so close to the lake is ideal for families. Pinecrest lake is such a perfect place to spend the weekend. It has a big sandy beach where you can pop up your umbrella, lay down your beach towels, and hangout all day. There are kayaks/paddle boats for rent at the dock. Skiing/wakeboarding are not allowed, but thats what makes it so serene and mellow. There is a snack/ice cream shop next to the beach where you can get a good hamburger or soft-serve cone. Also conveniently located is an outdoor movie theater/amphitheater at the campsite next to the lake.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The cozy Strawberry cabin met all our needs. From the game console, pool table and extra wide hammock to the awesome forest views and quick walk to the river... it's ideal for family bonding time and much memory making. Spent our days at Pinecrest lake (2 min drive) and nights star gazing. It has a great rustic feel with all the amenities. It's the perfect mountain retreat!

Awesome proximity to Pinecrest Lake. Great deck for bbq'ing and lounging. We played pool and Atari as well. Laurica was very responsive and helpful. We would stay here again.

Great mountain cabin!

  • 5 of 5

If you want to get away from it all and relax this is the place for you. The cabin is very clean, roomy and in a great location. Be prepared to unleash yourself from the world by not having access to the internet, phone, and TV. Instead you get to spend quality time with people in person enjoying conversation, games, quiet walks and the outdoors. In just a short walk or drive you will find hiking, fishing, boating and horseback riding. The cabin itself is roomy, with a nice kitchen and a beautiful deck. I spent a lot of time on the deck enjoying the scenery, reading and talking. No complaints at all. This was a great stay.

Owner's Response: Hi Mike, I'm so glad to hear your family enjoyed your stay at our Strawberry cabin. It is my families favorite place to enjoy quality time together without the distractions of internet/phone/etc. I've been on the fence about installing a dish for wifi/tv up there. It may be something we do by next spring. For now, the atari console, board games, pool table, and just lounging around on the deck, just slows our busy lives down for a bit! Kind regards, Laurica

Great Family Cabin

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is in a great location, close to hikes, swimming and there is a store close by too. We loved the living room, the Atari game (a big hit), kitchen area and deck. I wish the bedrooms could accommodate a larger bed. Double beds for two adults can be tight. My husband slept on the futon in the loving room, which was pretty comfortable. That would be my only complaint. Other than that it was perfect.

Owner's Response: Hi Linda, Thanks, I am so glad you enjoyed your stay. I do agree that it can be "cozy" with two adults in a double bed for sure. Unfortunately, because of the angle of the stairs/short hallway, we couldn't fit a queen in there (we tried effortlessly!) My girls (and me!) love the Atari game console as well. And the forest view on the deck, makes it my favorite place to relax and unwind. We look forward to your next stay! Laurica

Awesome mountain getaway!

  • 5 of 5

A great pad for a mountain getaway with friends and / or family- lots to do in the area, lots of fun to be had at the house. Pool table and horse shoe pit were big hits and the porch is great for hanging out at all times of the day. Some reviews mentioned it is tight for 7- if you have a group that is close knit it was not an issue at all. If every person in the party absolutely needs a separate bed, then 6 is max (including the couch and futon). But very easy to share beds or add sleeping bag to make it work. Great spot- will definitely be back!

Owner's Response: Hi Jens, I am glad to hear your party enjoyed your stay! I agree completely about the sleeping situation; six can fit comfortably, but if you don't mind bringing a sleeping bag, seven can squeeze in too. It's great that you were able to enjoy the serene setting of the deck. It's one of my favorite places for total relaxation. Looking forward to your next visit! Laurica
