Absolutely Charming!!!!

From the moment we got to the house till we left there was nothing that we needed to run out and get! Perfectly appointed, cozy we felt right at home. I recommend this house to everyone wanting to get a real feel for San Luis Obispo because it's moments from downtown and the neighborhood is beautiful and very quiet.

Perfect for our graduation weekend

  • 5 of 5

Can't say enough good things about Steve's place. We were in town for our daughter's graduation from Cal Poly. Was so great to be able to walk downtown for shopping, dinner, the 6am bar crawl!! The back yard is great. We had a family BBQ and it was perfect.

Kitchen was amazingly well stocked, bed were great. It was a warm weekend but there were plenty of fans. Would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone.

Tidy, comfy, close to downtown.

We had some DirecTV issues the first night but the owner responded immediately to my call and the issue was resolved. This cottage is very clean; great to sit on the front porch and observe the quiet neighborhood; backyard grill and spa all functioning and inviting. SLO is a fantastic hub from which to visit San Simeon, Cambria, Morro Bay, Avila Bay, and Pismo Beach, the gems of Cali's Central Coast. We also spent a worthwhile day in Paso Robles at the Estrella Warbirds Museum. All well within an hour of the front porch. Kitchen has all the necessaries and then some, bathroom plumbing and electric was reliable, and there's plenty of room for my morning stretches on the living room floor. The updates compliment the 1920's ambience of the cottage and neighborhood. Great getaway for a couple and could accomodate the RIGHT four people. Recommended.

Charming house very close to the happening parts of town, clean, organized, excellent amenities!

  • 5 of 5

Overall this was a lovely home and it is clearly cared for very well. We loved eating breakfast on the beautiful patio every morning. The rooms were impeccably clean and well kept. There were plenty of amenities-wifi, a nice Mac computer where I could check email, dishwasher, washer and dryer, plenty of pots, pans and cooking utensils and spices. I loved the hot tub in the back yard (it could use a little more light in the night time). Only part that was a little creepy for me (which is no fault of our house's owner) was the dilapidated, abandoned house next door which made us feel a little uncomfortable, given that the rest of the neighborhood was so nice. There was always a Honda Pilot parked in that house's driveway but we weren't sure if anyone was home. Our living room and kitchen windows looked out on that place which was a little creepy at night. The streets could use a little more street light at night because we were three young women traveling together and despite that we felt a little uncomfortable how dark it was waking home after dinner when not many people seemed to be home or around (maybe that was because of Memorial Day weekend). Overall, though, it is a really lovely home and I would stay here again. Hopefully someone will buy the house next door and renovate it!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. Yes, there's no denying that the next door house is kind of creepy at the the property was recently sold to a contractor who is the process of refurbishment, which was just approved by the City of SLO. The neighbor house will be a very nice craftsman that the owner is intending to put on the market once complete. So if anyone is interested in purchasing a place in downtown SLO let me know and I can get you in contact with the owner or his realtor. The parked car is actually the neighbor on other side of my neighbor's house (on Buchon Street). One of my favorite aspects of the 1500 block of Garden Street is that there are actually only 2 houses (mine and the neighbors') with frontages on that block, so it has fewer porch lights, traffic lights, loud students than the parallel streets (Broad and Chorro). I'll make sure to brighten the lights on the front of my house to make it less dark at night. Best regards, Steve

This the second time we have stayed here again, I coud not asked for a better place to stay

  • 5 of 5

This is the 2nd time we have stayed here, and just as our last stay, I could not have asked for anything more!

SLO is such a funky fun town and the Garden house is is within walking distance of all that action! It is only a short stroll to downtown, yet garden House is extremely peaceful, safe and quiet.

The house is very fiwarm and cozy, the beds and linens are of top quality and the kitchen is nicely stocked with erything you might need.and having a washer & dryer is so convenient. And of course the hot tub is a real bonus at the end of an active day. For folks who travel with 4 legged 'family' the charming backyard area is absolutely perfect and gives you a serene spot to relax, read or or enjoy an 'alfresco'

Meal. Be sure to look through the many books and magazines to give you a read feel for activities in the area. There are board game and many DVDs to enjoy as well.

Steve, thecowner is an absolute joy to work with and provides a great list of instructions for guests. I could not be more pleased with our stay and I look forward to our next visit.
