Beautiful Lake Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure to stay a week in Bricker Cottage in July 2015. Our group consisted of two young boys, two teenagers and 5 adults (including my mom, who celebrated her 70th during our stay). All of us, from the youngest to the oldest, thoroughly enjoyed the cabin and its unbeatable location.

The property itself consists of the original 1918 cabin, plus some additions, including two bedrooms over the garage (connected to the main cabin by a hallway). The additions give the overall cabin a sort of eclectic nature, which we found charming. But if you’re looking for “refined” accommodations, Bricker may not be the choice for you.

That said, we found all the rooms to be very clean and to have newer furnishings, not to mention lots of personal touches, such as local art and shelves and shelves of books. The kitchen was modern and exceptionally well-stocked. There were plenty of plates, cups, serving dishes and everything we needed to cook and serve large family meals.

The grounds themselves are also very well maintained and private. We spent almost every evening down by the lake, courtesy of plenty of (newer) lawn furniture, a great gas grill and a fire pit. It was the perfect setting for our mini family reunion.

And of course the location is hard to beat. Little Glen Lake is stunning, and we walked to Sleeping Bear Dunes multiple times. The bike path for the national park is also right across the road. The owners will warn you that the lake isn’t great for fishing (we still tried, but never had a bite), and it’s important to understand that the lake is very shallow. You can walk out a hundred yards and still be only knee deep. Still, our younger boys had a blast on the beach and in the shallow water, and everyone had fun on the kayaks and the canoe. And there’s plenty of deeper water for swimming and boating on Glen Lake (or a bit out from the shore on Little Glen Lake).

The owners definitely seemed committed to ensuring we had a great stay and that we had everything we needed. They checked in on us multiple times and provided recommendations on where to eat, what to do, etc. They were great hosts. We’d definitely go back and hope to do so often!
