About the property

3 bed 1 bath historic farmhouse beautiful valley setting overlooking the river

Located just 15 minutes from historical Abingdon, this large farmhouse has recently been remodeled. Original hardwood floors, lots of antiques. Walk out the back door to a large yard equipped with games (corn hole and croquet) or bring your own. Just beyond the yard is the picturesque Holston River. Perfect spot for fishing, swimming or canoeing. Plenty of room for the whole family or quaint enough for a romantic getaway.

Great location, convenient to town and the Creeper Trail. Great spot to fish and enjoy the surroundings. Very cozy and neatly kept. Will be coming back. Hated to leave.

Cute, nice river but needs work on accommodations

  • 2 of 5

Our family's (4 adults one child) was looking for a small house on the river while we were in town visiting family. The first problem we had was there is no railing on the front porch. The listing did not mention there are steps going into the bathroom with no railing (which for handicapped or elderly is a problem). We stayed in late August and when we arriv ed the house WAS HOT and took a full night and next day to cool off. We felt they should have turned them on before we got there. Even once that happened the units were too small for the space (one to cool all of downstairs including the Masterbed rm) AND two for upstairs which one was just gurgling with condensation and not cooling. By the way the two rooms upstairs are connected so dont plan on being a "couple" in the larger bed because the kids or people in other room have to come through your room to get downstairs and there is NO door.

We had met the lady and she was friendly. She said her father had a stroke, so we did not want to bother or mention the problems during our stay out of respect. One night the power went out for several hours which when the ac isn't great to begin with it wasn't pleasant. The t.v should get atleast 7 channels, but there were only two. My husband had to program the t.v remote that hadnt even been opened...not his job. Once he finally got the remote working for dvd player it only played movies on black and white (we were irritated ).If there are storms (which we had every night) or if you have folks that do not want to parake in river enjoyment than the t.v helps with their relaxation. This should be fixed. Now days everywhere should have internet...people want to explore Abingdon or Bristol so how can people look up things with no internet? Make sure you have the necessary utensils to cook including paper plates-there were only like three plates in the kitchen. Pizza cutter, will not have those items there. The river access is fine for younger folks, but just so you know it's a bit of a walk and not easy for older folks. Overall this family has a cute cabin that has so much potential, but there needs to be more detailed information in the VBRO details. Campground next door was quiet no problems there. Oh..for people going kayaking down to the bridge don't get out on the bank you will get stung by Stinging Nettle look it up it hurts like 6 year old got it big time! I hope the owners will consider these problems for the next quests.

We loved our stay at this cute and quaint old farmhouse!

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful stay and loved the private riverfront setting. The house was cozy and we enjoyed hearing about its history from the owner. The only small critique is the lack of a window AC unit in the king-size bedroom. It was too hot to sleep in that room, so we ended up in the room with two twin beds and AC. Besides that one small factor, we had a GREAT time and would stay again.

Great cabin on the river!

  • 5 of 5

We were working in the area and this cabin was perfect! When not working we spent time in the river,on the front porch watching hummingbirds, on the back porch eating dinner. The fire pit is a great feature although we didn't have time to use it. Would stay again!

Wonderful Farmhouse Stay

  • 5 of 5

This quaint house is located just outside of Abingdon and is right off of the river. The house features lots of antique and old-fashioned appliances and decorations. The owners did a great job making us all feel at home, checked in on us, and allowed for easy access to the property. They also worked with us regarding our situation with checkout and we are very appreciative of that! The property features lots of land for pets to run around or to play games with your friends/family. We loved the use of the smaller fire pit and the availability of so many other options for cooking our food. The rooms were comfortable for the 6 of us, but I am not sure about any more people.

I really loved the property, but some thoughts: the television only has 2 channels, so do not expect to rest and relax with local shows. There is a hodgepodge of utensils and cookware, but not necessarily what you are looking for. I also recommend washing what you use prior, as there were a few sticky ones. Also, I wasn't quite sure about the food leftovers in the freezer.

A private oasis

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful property if you value your privacy. We loved the views, the river and the house. We traveled with our

Black Lab, the experience couldn't have been more perfect. He was able to run and we were able to enjoy our family in the yard.

The owner is wonderful to work with.

It was a great experience. We will definitely go back.
