Overview

About the property

Enjoy our updated, four-season turn-of-century 3 bedroom farm home in the heart of Wellington. The village is tiny and cute and right on Lake Ontario, meaning: beaches! The village beach (Wellington Beach) is a short walk, and Sandbanks and North Beach provincial parks are short drives (a provincial park pass is included with your stay). If you're in The County to visit wineries (which are open year round), there's no better home base than Wellington as we're much closer to all the best wineries.

Our farm home was built in the late 1800's and retains much of its original form and character, including the floors, moulding and hardware; the kitchen, bathrooms and gas fireplace are all pretty new, making our cottage a comfortable and unique place to relax in Prince Edward County no matter which season you arrive.

Guests will have access to our warm and cozy gas fireplace, A/C unit in master bedroom, free wifi, dishwasher, microwave, large outdoor natural gas barbecue, a kitchen stocked with dishes and cookware etc, parking, a large yard with a picnic table and bistro set, a 32" flat screen HD TV, Apple TV and Netflix, large soaker tub, a queen bed, a double bed, two twin beds, a beach pass, front porch with four Muskoka/Adirondack chairs, a washer, dryer iron and ironing board.

You can easily walk to the main street in Wellington, accessing the grocery store, restaurants, a hardware store, a pharmacy, cafés, a bank, a salon and more. The Millennium Trail (a 40k+ converted rail trail) is at our doorstep. If staying in the winter be sure to bring your x-country skis! The village also boasts a fantastic selection of galleries (be sure to check out the Studio Tour!).

Beaches, golf courses and wineries are a very short drive away. Picton is a 25 minute drive and it has more shops etc. if you need them. If you're a keen cyclist, hundreds of kilometres of quiet country roads are yours to conquer.

The County is beautiful any time of year and there's no better place to stay than at our country home! Wellington is perfect for all travellers, whether a couple looking for a quiet, romantic getaway, or a young family seeking a spot to test out their sandcastle-building skills. Our family falls into the latter category and we LOVE that in Wellington you can walk for three minutes and enjoy the best restaurants in the County (nobody should have to be DD when vacationing in wine country), walk a few minutes further to the beach, or just hang out in the backyard and play leapfrog on the grass. People affectionately call Wellington "paradise" — we definitely agree and hope you will too!

We're available (via phone or email ) for any questions that may come up during your stay.

The cottage is available for minimum 2-night bookings year round, except for peak summer season from Canada Day to Labour Day. During peak season we only accept weekly bookings with SATURDAY check in/check out. All long weekends throughout the year require a 3-night minimum stay.

Kitchen and bath linens are provided, and beach towels are available upon request.

A $60 cleaning fee will also be added to all bookings.

Check in is at 3pm, and check out is 11am.

Nice cozy property conveniently located

  • 5 of 5

The house was clean and cozy and the location was very convenient for a girls weekend away. We walked to local restaurants and we were an easy drive to Sandbanks, Picton and Bloomfield.

Great spot and perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure of staying at the Timid Duck and it was the perfect spot for us! We were able to enjoy a lovely dinner at the Devonshire Drake restaurant on Friday night and it was less than a 5 min walk from the house. We had lots of space to cook and serve up a great dinner on Saturday night with pretty much everything we needed in the kitchen in terms of dishes etc...

The house was also very quiet and able to accommodate two couples comfortably. Highly recommend this spot if you are looking for quiet and close to wineries, eating establishments and some great little shops in Bloomfield.

Nice stay in cosy home.

  • 4 of 5

We and another couple had a lovely weekend at the Timid Duck. There was lots of room. We had dinner in the first night and the kitchen was well set up for putting together and easy going meal. We we walking distance to several nice dining spots on the second night. We enjoyed the late day fall sun on the side porch. The place was clean and the owner was responsive and helpful. We will be back.

QUIET AND WARM

  • 4 of 5

My daughters and I had a fun Girl's Weekend in Wellington staying at The Timid Duck. It was a frigid few days but we were warm and cozy as the furnace at The Timid Duck truly belted out the heat. We went to two fabulous restaurants which both were no more than 5 minutes walk away. On the Sunday we went wine tasting, also a pretty frigid affair but the wine was good. It would be nice if the house had 4 matching wine glasses, However , generally it is very well furnished, and very clean.

We spent a wonderful week in Prince Edward County. We really liked our stay at The Timid duck. The cottage was close to the places we wanted to visit or in some cases just a short drive. The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay.We will recommend this place to our family and friends. There's a lot of places to visit around Wellington and we also thought it was a beautiful town with a lot of nice gardens and friendly people.

A Very Nice Cottage/House

  • 4 of 5

This is a very nice cottage/house in the heart of the village of Wellington. The cottage is extremely well located. There are lots of wineries nearby; there are a select few good restaurants within walking distance (and many others a short ride away); there are many art galleries close by; there is a grocery store just a short walk away; the municipal beach is also within walking distance, if you do not have to carry too much stuff, etc. Provincial Parks, including Sandbanks, are about a 20 minutes drive. The cottage itself is very well-equipped, it has all amenities; the natural gas BBQ is a real bonus. There is a small backyard to eat outdoors, and there is a small campfire pit. The bedrooms are generally comfortable. I like the fact that the owner uses a cleaning staff to prepare the cottage prior to arrival; I do not mind paying the extra few dollars upon departure - we wiped things clean, but it is nice not to have to do a thorough cleaning as is often the case when renting from an individual owner.

There is no AC, and a single fan. While we visited, we had good, but not great weather; it was not too warm, so we were fine. Ceiling fans in the bedrooms upstairs, where it can get real warm, and a few high quality fans for the main floor would have been nice. There is no cable TV - there is Apple TV and Netflix. For most people that's probably fine. I just like watching baseball on vacation and without cable, I did not have a chance to do that. Last, we did not really use the oven (once only); it did need a good clean.

Very quiet. Overall, the plus far outweigh the negatives. This is a very good rental.
