Stayed here the other week and absolutely loved it. The house was magnificent, and there was plenty of room. We enjoyed going out in the mornings and evening to fish off the dock. While others just enjoying tanning and swimming on the roof. Great for boat access and taking some kayaks to watch the sunset in the water. There was plenty of room for the 8 of us to stay and the full kitchen made cooking meals for everyone a breeze. For anyone who is looking for a house to rent, would defiantly recommend this one. Wonderful place to stay!

Perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We had a very nice stay at Gold Point. The deck around the outside of the house and view were really nice. The house was very spacious. We had fun snorkling and fishing right on site and even saw a manatee, several lobster, two tarpon, and a couple barracuda right in the canal. Dock easily accommodated our 25' rental boat. Thanks for a great vacation.

Our family had a wonderful getaway at Gold Point!!! The home and pier were just perfect that we couldn't have asked for anything else. We'll definitely be back.

Dive trip

We had a wonderful stay at the Gold Point house in February, 2015. While the weather wasn't ideal for our visit (record low temps and high-gusting winds), we still had a great visit. The house has tons of space and the wrap around deck was a special treat. It has great views all around and also provided some extra space for our group to spread out. We had a good time fishing off the dock, and even caught a few lobster! (They were too small to keep, but it was still exciting and fun). House is decently equipped for cooking (plenty of pots and pans, but no spices or extras, so be prepared to bring or buy all condiments and other cooking necessities). Beds were very comfortable and there's plenty of comfortable seating in every room. Kitchen is HUGE; there's tons of counters for cooking and just hanging out. Lots of bar stools too - our group spent lots of time just hanging around in the kitchen. It's a light, bright, spacious room with lots of space and comfortable seating. The extra long dock was also a welcome feature. Since there was a lot of wind during our stay we were worried about our boat and checked on it numerous times overnight, but it's actually very well protected here and we had no issues. That said, the house is conveniently located a block from the "vaca cut" so we were off to the ocean side of things very quickly. Bedrooms are all adjacent to each other on one shared hall, so there's not much space or distance between... But this worked fine for our group. The first bedroom is a king with a slider out to the porch. This room probably has the best view as it looks to the North. The next 3 bedrooms also have good views but they look west (over the dock and side yard). The second BR is a queen with a door out to the porch. The 3rd BR is another queen with windows out to the porch. These 3 bedrooms are set up to share the hall (full) bath. The 4th bedroom is the master with a slider out to the porch. The master is the most spacious and has a connected bath and oversized closet. The master is definitely the largest and most comfortable, but that is always the case, right? The location is conveniently located in central Marathon, just a few minutes from shopping (Winn Dixie, k-mart, Publix), and our favorite dive outfit is just across the bridge (Captain Hooks). Overall, I would definitely recommend this house to others. We had a great week and would definitely come again.

Location, Location, Location

We could'nt have picked a a better location for a family Christmas. The owners went out of their way to be helpful. We had family from 3 states. 6 adults & 3 teens. We brought snorkel, scuba, & onshore / offshore fishing gear. House has plenty of storage in garage & work area. Easy access to dock / boats each morning & evening when loading & unloading. We could get in the boat to look at the ocean each morning. If too windy or rough we could adjust our plans and go to the gulf. We brought 1 boat, 4 SUVs a boat trailer and had no problem with parking. Rented 2nd boat from Captain Hooks marina on the opposite end of Vaca Cut. This couldn't be more convenient. We could get ice, bait, tank refills every day within minutes. The house has a LONG dock for multiple boats. Hose for washing boats, gear and fish. Electricity by the fish cleaning station & tiki hut. Dock is lined with palms and has a tiki hut at the end. It looks nice & we enjoyed drinks & relaxing while watching the boats & views of the gulf. 4 bedrooms on the 2nd floor with 2 queen & 2 king beds. Linens & towels provided. TV's in each room. All rooms have a window or door with views of the canal & access to wrap around porch. Large kitchen & living areas. Easily had everyone in the room while cooking, relaxing, & eating. If anyone needed a break they could go to their room, the roof patio or play room. The play room has some older furniture, PS3 game, TV & ping pong table. Kids slept on two futons in play room. We used a blow up mattress for my daughter upstairs. A great room for kids to have their own space & it was heavily used. Although only 2 bathrooms we never had an issue with 9 people. 2 water heaters kept us from cold showers. We were close to good snorkeling, diving & sandbars for kids to play on. Fishing was very good. Caught dolphin, mackerel, sharks, jacks, grouper, snapper, tarpon & lobster.

A couple small negatives. The kids wanted to snorkel & float in front of the house but the area was full of floating grass with a strong sulphur smell. Owners hired someone to clean it but it was not complete until end of our stay. The pool could have been cleaner. Pool lights did not work for night swim.

Area Information We are 'The Sportsfishing Capital of the world', and home of great diving, Sunsets, and relaxation but here are some other ideas: Sightseeing, History and Tours Dolphins Grassy Key The Dolphin Research Center The true home of Flipper! Don't miss this place; they are dedicated to training, studying, and protecting the Dolphins! I recommend reserving a spot to swim with one of the Dolphins, it is well worth the money! Famous people from around the world visit this facility each year because they are the best. You will be amazed at what you will learn and the gift shop is quite nice as well. Beach Marathon Sombrero Beach Turn left at Kmart on Sombrero Beach Road and you'll find the nicest beach in the Middle Keys.
