Excellent location, substandard unit

What a difference a unit makes. Fabulous location, but this unit lacks basic maintenance. I would not even have bothered to comment on the issues with the unit had the rental company not tested my patience. While replacing a broken on arrival remote, the maintenance man took it upon himself to take pictures to document our "excessive sand " in the condo. We were out at the time and I was horrified thinking I had overlooked us tracking in too much sand. Lisa, from the rental company called to tell us they had replaced the remote and that the maintenance/cleaning man had taken photos of the unit while he was in and we needed to take care of excessive sand to avoid an additional cleaning fee. We got back to the unit and upon inspection, I got mad. We had swept prior to going out. There was not any amount of sand to even constitute moderate. It was ridiculous, to find out that some one came in to replace a broken item and then documented our rented living quarters. I felt violated.

So here are the issues you can expect from this unit. The couches are shabby, the vent fan in the master bath sounds like a freight train and wakes the entire condo when turned on. This is particularly enjoyable at 2 and 4 in the morning.The shower head in the spare bedroom can only be used by a person over 4 feet tall. The shower head hits too high on the wall for a child to use. This cannot be adjusted. The fitted sheets do not stay on the mattress. It's so refreshing to awake up ones face against a mattress hundreds have slept on. The sliding glass doors and screen doors and are beast to open. They don't slide at all! I was aftaid they would break every time I opened or closed them. The ice maker does not work, excellent in a tropical climate. The dishwasher front is rusty. We only used it once, afraid it would break and we would be on the hook for a new one. The vacuum sounds like shrieking demons escaped from hell. You probably think I'm exaggerating at this point... I dare you to come use that vacuum! And finally the decor. I wasn't expecting the ritz but the amount of canvases that can be made to fit on a wall, ANY wall, has me shriveled into fetal position. That covers the high points. Once again, I would have kept my mouth shut, and chalked it up to a learning experience had they not violated our privacy. Lesson learned! I will go back to the other rental company for this building. Also note, you have to vacate the unit by 10 am.

Owner's Response: This guest contacted us regarding a broken TV remote. Upon arrival, our representative found it crushed in many pieces. It was in perfect condition when they arrived. It was Immediately replaced without charge to the guest. The guests disregarded our rental instructions and brought all of our boogie boards and chairs inside from the beach, without first rinsing them off in the downstairs shower. We have photos of them piled on the living room and dining room floors and the piles of sand on our tile. These belong on the lanai where we store them and guests are notified in advance that extra cleaning charges can be assessed by the cleaning company for non-compliance. They were politely reminded and the one lady threw a fit on the phone and began making threats about posting a derogatory review just because she was asked to follow our rules. One bathroom fan mount was loose and has since been repaired. The sliding lanai doors are in perfect working order. They were difficult to open and close because someone in her party knocked them off their tracks, which is 5 second fix. The lever on the ice maker was in the "off" position. It works if turned on. Someone spilled something on the dishwasher door and it has been cleaned. The vacuum canister was full. Once emptied, functions normally. We get hundreds of compliments on our tropical artwork, and many other Maui condo owners purchase these from us to decorate their rentals. This is the "First" time a guest has ever complained about these so we take it with a grain of salt. Our beautiful condo was completely gutted and renovated in 2015. We spent over $50,000 on the renovations and replaced all the flooring, window treatments, installed new cherry cabinets with granite counters in the kitchen and bathrooms. All the furniture and appliances are new and extremely well maintained and cleaned. Deep cleanings and maintenance are done every 2 - 3 months and we frequently use our condo for our vacations, family and friends. The front office staff notified us that this guest had caused problems for other owners in previous years, and nobody would rent to them. They were able to rent our condo because we weren't aware of their reputation and disregard for other people's property. They are no longer welcome at our resort or in any of our rentals. We have lots of nice photos and guest comments about our condos on our VRBO listings and on our website Mahalo
