Sunny Summer Cottage with Amazing Mountain Views

Bedrooms 2
Space 950 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

2 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 5

Come and get away from it all and relax in the West Kootenays in our private guesthouse/cottage just minutes away from the eclectic town of Nelson.

We are located 15 minutes west of Nelson on Highway 3A part of the breathtaking Selkirk Loop. Situated on a mountainside just off the highway but secluded enough to take you away from it all.

Killara Cottage is a newly renovated 2 bedroom cottage on beautifully landscaped property with spectacular views of the Kootenay River and snow capped mountains. The main bedroom has a queen sized bed, and the second bedroom has a double bed under a lofted single (bunk bed) perfect for a second couple or the kids. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything required for a quiet dinner at home. There is high speed wi-fi internet, DVD player, movies and games for your entertainment, or you can enjoy all the outdoor activities this area has to offer.

In the summer you can enjoy a swim in the lake, or float your inner tube down the Slocan River. For those more adventurous there's kayaking, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, rock climbing and more just outside your door. There is also great shopping, museums, coffee shops and galleries in the historic town of Nelson to top off your day.

In the fall you have your choice of rivers to drop in a fly and enjoy the flyfishing that British Columbia is famous for.

In the winter, Whitewater is 25 minutes away or Red Mountain less than an hour away. Heli-Skiing and Cat-skiing are also available. There are multiple nordic ski trails to choose from and endless trails for snowshoeing.

We would love to share with you all that this wonderful place has to offer.

About Andrew Downs

Jan and Andrew met in Vancouver but Andrew was living part time between Vancouver and Melbourne, Australia. They left the big city and found this quiet little part of the world. The lure of flyfishing and the beautiful backdrop of the Kootenays brought Andrew to Canada full-time. They love all that the Kootenays have to offer and its now in their backyard. Fishing, skiing, hiking, cycling and many more things yet to discover.

They do live on the property in a house completely separate from the cottage.

Andrew Downs purchased this cottage in 2011

What makes this cottage unique

Our property is privately situated on the mountainside, with no neighbors in sight, but you can hear the sound of the creek in your backyard and catch an occasional glimpse of roaming elk, deer and even turkeys.

Our stay in the Nelson area was unforgettable. We were able to do something different everyday that appealed to each of our family. What a great family holiday in the most amazing environment. The cabin we stayed in met every need . We hope to return every year!

Beautiful inside & out

  • 5 of 5

Oh wow ! Fell in love with Nelson after visiting here. The house, ok a little hard to find & abit more info would have been great for peeps like us to go on as we had no way of communicating & no idea of the area to gage time from places ! It's up the road from the fire depo in Beasley ( on your left) & going down it's on your right, before the the fire depo so if you've passed that, then you've missed the house; that's for Mooses like us !

The pictures just don't do it justice. The place is beautiful. Can't wait to return! We had poor visibility from the smoke from the terrible fires BC have been having but for us first timers to this area, it didn't affect us. Everybody is so friendly. Walmart shopping to Safeway supermarket, to your dinky shops, all tucked into this small town. Every angle catered for in our group, to youngster to teenager to mum & dad ! theres a beach nearby for when it gets too hot & you need to cool down & plenty of places to visit around. We went to Kaslo when the jazz festival was on ; great place ! All in all , loved it !

Wow, such quality for the price!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a great time. The cottage is located close enough to town to make the drive easy, but far enough away to feel like we were in the wilderness. Beautiful location and views, we would have stayed for several more days if we had the time! Cannot say enough good things!
