Overview

About the property

4 bed, 2 ½ bath child + pet friendly home w/ prkng four blox from US Capitol

If you're looking for a larger house on the Hill that serves as a comfortable rendezvous for family & friends of all ages, this is your spot. Per-diems and medevac welcomed. We offer some things that are relatively rare on Capitol Hill: True proximity to the U.S. Capitol & Supreme Court (check your map!); parking (though you probably won't need your car as it's so walkable); a large private patio and a grassy front yard. Here are the nitty gritty details on the house: It was built in 1850 but modernized over the years. It's got 2 stories, plus a basement. It sleeps up eight comfortably (plus two more in a pinch.) Our top floor has a large master bedroom with a king bed + en-suite bathroom; down the hall are three additional bedrooms; one has bunk beds and a trundle and thus can sleep up to three comfortably; another bedroom has a single bed with a pop-up trundle bed which enables the room to have either a twin bed or a king bed - two can sleep here comfortably. The final bedroom has a single bed and can sleep one. These bedrooms share sunny a hall bathroom that has a shower over tub arrangement. Down the stairs, on our first floor, we have a pull-out couch that can sleep another two, if needed. On the ground floor there is a formal parlor with a fireplace, a piano, perfect for quiet cocktails or hanging out. As you walk down the hall from the parlor there is a bathroom and a coat closet. Next there is a nice-sized dining room that can seat 10. Through the dining room is a large open kitchen that includes that opens onto a family room that is enclosed by french doors overlooking the patio. The family room has lots of comfortable seating and is where kids and grown ups alike relax, play games and watch movies. Our favorite room in the summer is actually outside, in our back patio, which has a grill, lots of plants and an automatic awning for when it’s too sunny (or rainy!), and ample seating for summer parties. In the basement there is a washer and dryer; we have a parking spot available in the back of the house so you can avoid the expense of parking garages. Our top floor has a large master bedroom with a king bed + en-suite bathroom; down the hall are three additional bedrooms; one has bunk beds and a trundle and thus can sleep up to three comfortably; another bedroom has a single bed with a pop-up trundle bed which enables the room to have either a twin bed or a king bed - two can sleep here comfortably. Why Diana Williams Corless chose Eastern Market

We fell in love with our house because it's a rambling, private and comfortable house on one of the most prominent streets in the country: East Capitol Street. We have a sunny, private patio out back where we love to have breakfast and dinner.

What makes this townhome unique

Not a lot of homes on Capitol Hill are sunny, but we are lucky to have lots of sunshine. In the morning we have coffee in the kitchen or out back, watching the cardinals and checking on our tomatoes and other plants. We can walk almost anywhere from our front door - to the Smithsonians, the subway, the bus, restaurants, parks, you name it!

10 days of family fun in the Capitol!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this gem of a property for ten days in July on a family trip with our 7 children. The house was perfect for our family, 4 bedrooms upstairs and a pullout couch downstairs. The home was in a charming neighborhood within walking distance (ten minutes or so) to the closest metro. The location of this property was ideal for sightseeing; you were either within walking distance of everything or close enough to the metro/bus that you could see everything you wanted in DC.

We were gone all day, every day sightseeing and it was so nice to have a cozy home base to come back to at the end of every day. Some nights we were all so tired and ordered some yummy food from We The Pizza and a delicious Thai place (I forget the name.) It was also so nice to be able to do laundry, make coffee in the morning, gather for a TV show on Netflix at the end of the day...Diana's home offered us the cozy conveniences of home while we were all so far away from our own home...it truly felt like we had arrived "home" at the end of every day on our vacation.

Diana was also wonderful to work with. She was very prompt on returning emails and went out of her way to help us find place to park our oversize van.

Don't hesitate about staying here-we loved every day of it and felt totally at home. It made for a perfect family trip to D.C.!

My family had a wonderful time in DC. Diana catered to our needs with sleeping arrangements for in- laws and more! The open living area was perfect for great conversation in the kitchen while teenagers played In the TV room. The home was very clean and the washer/dryer came in handy!! Thanks for a memorable 5 days!

Awesome Home

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time visiting D.C., and especially staying in Diana's wonderful home. The house is beautiful and in a very cool neighborhood, and is just a few blocks up the street from the Capitol building. The home is surprisingly spacious, beautifully furnished, and included all of the amenities that we could have wanted. It was also great to have off-street reserved parking.

Wonderful home, great place to stay in DC

  • 5 of 5

The house was clean, spacious and welcoming. The neighborhood was quiet and close enough to the national mall to walk to the museums and monuments. The house easily accommodated our family of eight which included young children, a young adult and a grandparent. Diana was very nice and made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable. We hope to be able to stay here again when we visit DC in the future.

A wonderful home-away-from-home!

  • 5 of 5

We felt very comfortable in this clean, lovely family home so close to everything we came to visit in DC. For a city house, it was very quiet and spacious. The street and neighborhood are pretty and feel safe. Lots of good food options nearby. The house has an older aesthetic but with nicely redone kitchen, bathrooms and family room. Linens and towels were good quality. Diana was a helpful and welcoming host, easily reachable by cell phone with any questions. There were tons of games, toys and books available which made our "down time" particularly relaxing and fun. Thank you, Diana and family!

Car: not necessary

We are steps from some of the most interesting museums and government institutions in the country. There's literally something for everyone and every age and the best part is you don't need a car. One of our personal favorites is the US Capitol Building, which is four blocks away; there are free tours all day long and if you get tired, not problem, you can just take the rest of the tour the next day! The Library of Congress is another favorite - it's one of the prettiest buildings we have ever seen, like gorgeous palace. A few blocks from our house is Pennsylvania Avenue and 7th Street and the Eastern Market area -- all of them filled with small restaurants that are family friendly, cafes, bars and coffee places. We also have a number of parks where we often toss a ball around, run our dog and have a picnic.
