About Leah Walton

I am a semi retired fashion designer who loves the mountains. I spend everyday running my sled dogs in the forest winter and summer. I live in Ponderosa, CA and that is 25 min up the mountain from Camp Nelson, CA.

Leah Walton purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Leah Walton chose Sequoia, Kings Canyon

This property is very clean and well kept.

I supply clean sheets and towels for the guests

convenience who travel abroad as well as allow pets.

What makes this cabin unique

Forest adjacent, walking distance to town and the river stocked with Golden Trout among The Giant Sequoias. The Nelson Trail is just up the street for hiking, horse back riding and mountain biking. Famous for downhill runs.

The Pack Station provides horse back rides to the Kern River for Golden Trout Fishing. Or hike from the pack station for a day hike to the Kern river bridge in the Golden Trout Wilderness.. Visit The Stagg Tree, third largest , Dome rock for meteor shows, The Needles climb to the lookout tower is Fantastic!!! Peppermint Falls in Lower Peppermint Campground SO AMAZING ..This cabin is available in winter unlike other cabins in the area. This cabin has been winterized! Roads are snowplowed everyday before 9AM. but bring chains just in case.

There are Cross country Ski Trails just 15 min up the mountain and sledding in the meadow are popular in Camp Nelson during the winter months! Take advantage of the low rates and availability in the winter!

Leah's cabin

  • 4 of 5

Leah's cabin is centrally located in Camp Nelson, near the store, trails, etc. It's ideal for a couple. I personally loved the bath tub...perfect setting with an outdoor private view in gorgeous tub. Bubbles galore. However, my son would have appreciated a full shower version of the tub. The deck is very comfortable. Now, to previous reviewers comments: yes, it is basic. I brought my own kitchen ware that I personally require--knife, cutting board, a pan or two, etc. We were there in August so there was no need for heating. A fan would have been so nice since it was a heat wave, but it was unusually warm.

Leah was quick in responding and her cabin is a great value. I would definitely recommend her cabin for a couple. .... No need to worry about not having a TV. When you're in this part of the country, you're better off without it. You'll feel more refreshed when you return to your world.

Quiet cabin in the woods

  • 3 of 5

The cabin is located on a quiet road within a 10 minute's walk to a general store and although it was basic, it served it's purpose for the incredible price. I would recommend bringing your own pots & pans, as the ones on site were pretty beaten up. I would also recommend bringing a dish towel, your own cleaning supplies, and garbage bags as none of those things were available. Since we visited in summer, the portable fan was a bonus as it can get pretty hot there. However, I do have to agree with another visitor that there was a sewage smell our first night and wafted for a while. But for a weekend away, it was a great location to visit all the favorite hotspots in the Sequoias: the Stagg tree (6th largest in the world), the Trail of 100 Giants, and a supercool natural waterslide just 45 minutes away in the Johnsondale area (forest road 22S82). Thank you Leah!

Owner's Response: Thank You for the feedback! I am stocking the cabin with more pots and pans, plates and new utensils. The plumbing was fixed but what I think is happening is that if guests do not hold the tab while flushing it creates a small delay and small back up. I had a plumber come and recent everything.

Quaint little cabin in the woods

  • 4 of 5

The moment I drove up the driveway of the cabin, I knew I will have a wonderful time with my wife and our friends. A picturesque cabin. I've been to many cabins and this is one of the best in my opinion. For a city boy like myself, staying at a cabin surrounded by the trees was a dream like experience. I'd definitely come back to this cabin.

Mouse droppings and sewage smell

  • 1 of 5

Initially the place appears a decent. But, I immediately found a partially eaten banana on top the the fridge upon arrival that had obviously been nibbled on by something other than a human. I didn't freak out about it, but then in the drawer below the microwave with the oven mits has lots of mouse dropping in there. The plumbing has some sort of issue, as the sewage smell that other reviewers mention does waft through the cabin, especially back near the bathroom. It's strange because the place has fairly recent upgrades to the bathroom, but it's lacking a deep cleaning. I tried to ignore the smell and droppings, but after a few days, I knew I would not be coming back to this rental or recommending it to others. Get the place in full operating condition before offering it to the public.

Owner's Response: Guests lack following the rules. It never fails that when someone breaks the rules and looses their deposit they have to write a bad review... These guests dumped ashes all over the sofa and floor as well as dumping an entire fireplace full of ash and wood right in the driveway where you park. To make matters worse there were cigarette butts thrown over the deck. The is unacceptable!!! This is a pet friendly cabin and I can not put poison or traps out. The bathroom was fixed months ago with no smells or complaints as they were reading past remarks. to create a bad review.

Nice cabin

  • 4 of 5

The cabin had all the elements needed to provide for a few days of rest and relaxation. It's a good value, not fancy, but is comfortable. I slept well, and enjoyed the fireplace too. The deck was great to spread out on during the day. Close to everything in Camp Nelson, as it's centrally located.

Rustic coziness

  • 4 of 5

The two of us and our dogs had a wonderful stay at Leah's cabin. Especially given our dogs with us we were content with the few amenities offered. It was just what we needed. However, the pull out couch is not very comfortable. Luckily I brought extra blankets as there were none to be found. We also brought plenty of firewood and enjoyed the fire each evening. That was also good since it was questionable what else we would use for heat. The setting is as charming as you can get and just up the road we romped in the snow for two days. We definitely would go back.
