About the property

Come Out And Feel The Wild, Wild West/Birder's Paradise'

Beautiful home on five acres of pristine desert...Awesome views of the Catalinas and Rincon Mountains.. Lots of birds, coyotes and wildlife all around.. Home is surrounded by mesquites, cacti and agaves....Out but close to shopping, restaurants and cafes....Lots of hiking paths and bike riding close... All tile floors, high ceilings with fans in all rooms...wood burning fireplace inside and out. Huge brick patio and disappearing sliding glass doors to an incredible backyard with big mesquites and awesome views of the Catalina Mountains. Very quiet, peaceful, with huge wash and sometimes running water. Just a beautiful place to relax and get away. Pool is not heated in the winter. Home has huge windows and a disappearing sliding glass door, to bring the outside in. Huge saguaro out front, private backyard where lots of birds gather. Outside patio on the banks of the Agua Caliente wash with stone fireplace to watch the stars as they come out at night. Roadrunners, quails, hummingbirds, coyote howling, beautiful sunsets almost every night. The Agua Caliente Park just south of property with natural hot spring and wild ducks. Mt. Lemmon is just north, and only takes a half hour to reach the top, temperature drops 20 degrees, pine trees, ski lift and three restaurants. The smells of the desert after a rain is incredible. Short ride down a dirt road to this desert oasis...

About Joe Klein or Barbara Powell

Hi...this home was a bank repo, completely torn apart..I added this addition in 2007...tried to leave the desert untouched. I originally came to Tucson from Annapolis Md., grew up in a harbor on the Severn River. Moved here in 1982 to get away from the cold...Love Tucson... I am a watercolor artist and the home is full of my paintings. If interested in buying any let me know.. The master bedroom has African animal art and the guest bedroom has birds from all over the world. I manage this home with my guy Joe...Joe knows how to fix everything, he is a world of knowledge and if there is a problem he knows how to fix it. We live on the property, in the main house.

Joe Klein or Barbara Powell purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Joe Klein or Barbara Powell chose Tucson

Our place is very remote but close to town. We own five acres of mostly untouched desert. The Catalina Mtns. are so close and the way the light changes the shadow every morning and night is incredible...The sunsets are the best in the world, almost every evening. Relax out back and watch as the birds come in for their breakfast and dinner and experience the sunsets. Lots of coyote sounds early mornings and late evenings. The property has a huge wash, that runs a lot, sometimes it is a raging river. Great place to hike and go up into the canyons. There is an incredible park just south of property, has a natural spring that feeds the ponds, lots of wild ducks, and birds that visit in the winter...My property is only half an hour to the top of Mt. Lemmon. Pine trees and 20 degrees cooler at the top. Awesome drive with lots of scenic spots along the way and picnic areas. My favorite spot to stI have been to Mt. Lemmon lots of times...and have found a great place to stop along the way is Box Alder , always no one there, picnic tables, bathroom, and lots of blue and black birds. This home is so quiet at night, that you can hear the water running in the wash, coyotes howl, roadrunners click, owls hoot, the wind thru the mesquites. There is a huge pool with diving board for summer fun too. We have just put in a really nice spa tub. Down Tanque Verde Rd. to the east, is some great 4 wheel driving experiences. The road turns into Reddington Road and goes on forever. Great spot for birders, quail come in twice a day to feed on the quail blocks, also roadrunner past thru, lots of cardinals, hawks, doves, woodpeckers...lots of rabbits feed around the yard...We have two acres fenced in.. We live in the main house, so we are here most of the time to fix and answer any questions that you have. Just added HBO, #500's

Also, we have another rental on VRBO, the number is 612960 The unit is up a private spiral staircase...

What makes this cottage unique

Experience complete privacy, away from the maddening world, hear no noises except the birds, coyotes and the wind. Go down to the gazebo and start a roaring fire... Listen to the sounds of the desert and watch the stars come out like you have never experienced them!!! Really great place for birders, lots of birds all around the property, we feed them so they surround the property. This property has lots and lots of big and little cacti, agaves, mesquites, palo verdes, iron wood trees. Sometimes when we get a good rain, the wash is running and it sounds wonderful, waterfront property in Arizona. The wash is a great place to explore, lots of native plants, huge trees, canyons to climb, goes on forever into the mountains. Some great day trips to Tombstone, Mt. Lemmon, Mexico (only lil over an hour away), Desert Museum, Old Tucson, lots of ghost towns around, Patagonia has a lil lake that rents boats and canoes, 3 casinos, two incredible missions, Wild Life museums, Madera Canyon, Sabino Canyon with 7 Falls, Saguaro National Monuments, Bisbee (old mining town), Kartchner Caverns, and Colossal Caves, Flandrau Planetarium, Kit Peak Planetarium, Biosphere, 4 malls for shoppers...or just relax and watch the scenery around the property, and sun bathe..almost always sunny here.

We also have another property on this location...the VRBO # is 612960

We just put in a 5 person spa, we will keep it heated...and Joe keeps the chemicals just right...

HBO channels too....500 on the direct tv

Paradise in Tucson!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Barbara and Joe's Caliente Creek Ranch could not have been better - unless we could have stayed longer! We were in the beautiful Dorothy's Cottage surrounded by Barbara Powell's watercolor paintings which are AMAZING! My husband secretly arranged to have one shipped to us and wow was I surprised. Beautiful painting of a Blue Panther Chameleon. Also a great reminder of our stay.

The 2-bedroom casita is connected to the main house but totally self contained. It was exceptionally clean and well stocked with everything one could think of - even chilled glasses for beer and margaritas the freezer! The furniture was very comfortable. We appreciated the King bed in the master - so many rentals only have Queen beds. The master bath was amazing with a shower that had 6 shower heads including Rainfall. The 2nd bed and bath were also extremely nice even though we didn't need them.

We had a very relaxing time and were glad we could include our little terrier Winston. Barbara and Joe's very friendly dog came over to visit. The pool was a wonderful luxury I enjoyed each day. So peaceful floating and looking at the beautiful mountains and sky. We sat on the patio every evening and enjoyed cocktails while watching the amazing sunsets. Another nice extra was having ceiling fans everywhere - even 2 on the patio! The air conditioning was perfect but having the fans as well was nice.

Barbara and Joe were wonderful hosts and we enjoyed chatting with them. They were avail when needed but otherwise gave us our privacy. We had a perfect stay that provided a fantastic escape - truly a bit of Paradise!

Barbara and Joe - thank you so much!! We will be back!

This is a very serene spot in the desert.

  • 5 of 5

The property is lovely and peaceful. It was located outside of town but the commute was easy and the serenity was well worth the short drive. The property was well maintained and we had many wildlife spotting. Including hummingbirds, quail, bobcat and coyotes. Luckily the cactus were blooming.

The house was well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The owners where extremely gracious and available to assist with any additional needs, concerns or questions regarding the community and recreation.

I will definitely stay here again when I travel to Tucson.

Joe and Barbara are the perfect hosts. Beautiful, well appointed and fantastic views.

  • 5 of 5

Every aspect of the rental was perfect from Joe greeting us at the gate when we arrived to Barbara resetting our fire pit, hummingbird feeder and ensuring the property was perfect each and everyday. Joe is an amazing ‘concierge’ and was able to recommend local such as Kartchner Caverns and fantastic local restaurants. Don’t miss Aqua Caliente Park which is located at the end of the driveway. I walked there every day at sunrise.

If you’re looking for a place where every detail is considered and taken care of, this is it.

Great trip to the desert

We had a great stay at Caliente Creek. We really enjoyed the sunsets on the patio, fires under the stars and loved it when Jack would come and visit us in the morning. He is a great dog and it started off every day with a big smile. Would definitely come back again.
