About the property

Come Out And Feel The Wild, Wild West

Beautiful home on five acres of pristine desert...Awesome views of the Catalinas and Rincon Mountains.. Lots of birds, coyotes and wildlife all around.. Home is surrounded by mesquites, cacti and agaves....Out but close to shopping, restaurants and cafes....Lots of hiking paths and bike riding close... All tile floors, high ceilings with fans in all rooms...wood burning fireplace inside and out. Huge brick patio and disappearing sliding glass doors to an incredible backyard with big mesquites and awesome views of the Catalina Mountains. Very quiet, peaceful, with huge wash and sometimes running water. Just a beautiful place to relax and get away. Pool is not heated in the winter. Home has huge windows and a disappearing sliding glass door, to bring the outside in. Huge mesquites surround the backyard where lots of birds gather. Outside patio on the banks of the Agua Caliente wash with stone fireplace to watch the stars as they come out at night. Roadrunners, quails, hummingbirds, coyote howling, beautiful sunsets almost every night. The Agua Caliente Park just south of property with natural hot spring and wild ducks. Mt. Lemmon is just north, and only takes a half hour to reach the top, temperature drops 20 degrees, pine trees, ski lift and three restaurants. The smells of the desert after a rain is incredible. Short ride down a dirt road to this desert oasis...

About The Owner

Hi...this home was a bank repo, completely torn apart..I added this addition in 2007...tried to leave the desert untouched. I originally came to Tucson from Annapolis Md., grew up in a harbor on the Severn River. Moved here in 1982 to get away from the cold...Love Tucson...

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2000

Why The Owner chose Tucson & Southern Arizona

My place is very remote but close to town. I own five acres of mostly untouched desert. The Catalina Mtns. are so close and the way the light changes the shadow every morning and night is incredible...The sunsets are the best in the world, almost every evening. Relax out back and watch as the birds come in for their dinner's and experience the sunsets. Lots of coyote sounds early mornings....

Also I have another rental on VRBO, the number is 612960 The unit is up a private spiral staircase....

What makes this cottage unique

Experience complete privacy, away from the maddening world, hear no noises except the birds, coyotes and the wind. Go down to the gazebo and start a roaring fire... Listen to the sounds of the desert and watch the stars come out like you have never experienced them!!! We also have another property on this location...the VRBO # is 612960

We just put in a 5 person spa, we will keep it heated...and Joe keeps the chemicals just right...

Great desert experince!

  • 5 of 5

This is a great place to get away from it all! The house is nicely updated and has all the amenities you need. Great location for hiking trails including the wash in the backyard. Mt Lemmon is close along with numerous other nice places to get out and experience nature. The resident dog Jack is a sweetheart and got along with our dogs well. The owners are nearby but are respectful of your space. Overall it was a great place to hang out for a few days!

long-term stay

  • 5 of 5

I was a very long term renter on this property and enjoyed my stay very much. The property is gorgeous all times of year, (be aware of the monsoon season in Tucson though) and there is plenty to do in the area. The house is secluded enough on a long dirt road, with tons of wildlife, and beautiful succulents and cactus'. Barbara and Joe are incredibly accommodating, and generous, but also give you privacy. The plumbing, kitchen, a/c and heat ect. are all efficient, and if there ever was an issue Joe was very quick to fix it. Also Barbara really puts a lot of effort into decorating and making the place comfortable, and it really is a work of art..very whimsical yet southwestern. A special place that I would really recommend. There is a large yard, horseshoe pit, unheated but nice pool, large fire-pit with a great view, and lots of parking.

Perfect end to our holiday

  • 5 of 5

We are a couple from the UK. We arrived at this lovely place at the end of two week holiday and needed to put our feet up after a long rail and road trip covering six states. The house is very well equipped and comfortable and was the perfect place to relax and enjoy the exotic (to us!) desert wildlife. Barbara and Joe were excellent hosts, available if we needed them but sensitive enough to give us privacy to enjoy the end of our holiday. We loved it!

Tucson in February

  • 5 of 5

We had a very nice stay in Tuscon. Barbara and Joe were very warm and welcoming. If we had any problems (which were very few), they took care of them right away. Would definitely stay here again.

Great and relaxing vacation!

  • 5 of 5

My family of 4 just stayed at this wonderful rental for 10 days. It is truly lovely, gorgeously decorated, and complete with welcoming things such as a basket of coffee and treats on the table when we arrived, bathrobes and nice bedding. Our 2 children (18 and 20) shared the queen bed, which might not be for everyone, but they were fine. It was sometimes tight for the 4 of us at meals, but was very doable. The owners are on the grounds but it did not distract from the private feeling of the property at all. They were very helpful for anything we needed. They are working on fixing the heating system which seemed to pump very strongly into the guest bedroom, but not elsewhere (yes---we needed heat! We hit a cold spell). There is a beautiful arroyo out the back (through a trail) and we had wonderful walks along it (there was recent rain and it was flowing). We are birders and appreciated the peace and quiet of this location.

Check out is 11:00 A.M. Check in is 4:00 pm, sometimes check in could be earlier, depending on when the people left before. This property is on a five acre lot, with a huge wash that runs thru the middle..sometimes it is a raging river or soft stream. Great for hiking or just sitting and admiring the untouched beauty of the Sonoran Desert. Mountain views everywhere and no manmade sounds...
