About Sandra and Turner duPont
Turner and Sandy, your hosts, are the stewards of this unique property. We moved to the area about 15 years ago looking for a more rural lifestyle, closer to nature and further from the influences of the city. And we found that lifestyle here on the beautiful tranquil Williams Fork River. While we share a common vision for the property, Turner is the one who has the skill set to make that vision a reality. Every improvement to the property is a reflection of his vision and skill. When not stewarding the property, Turner and Sandy are both dual sport motorcyle enthusiasts - exploring and touring the lesser travelled roads of the West and beyond.
Sandra and Turner duPont purchased this Cabin in 2014
Why Sandra and Turner duPont chose Hamilton
The land upon which the Cabin stands was once inhabited by the Ute Indians. In the very late 1800’s, John Jarvis settled and staked his claim in the Williams Fork River Valley. The property surrounding the Cabin is all part of Jarvis' original claim. In the spring of 2014, Turner and Sandy purchased the Cabin and surrounding 110 acres from a friendly Texan by the name of Andy. Twenty plus years earlier, Andy had hired a local artisan to complete the interior of the Cabin. The idea being that this would be Andy’s private hunting retreat. The interior supporting logs upstairs are all hand hewn and the fireplace rock came from a local quarry. Andy took great pride in decorating the Cabin with hand-made log furniture and fastening the Texas star above doors and on walls. Although Andy loved the Cabin, he in fact spent little time here. Nature began to slowly and inevitably reclaim the Cabin. The birds and woodpeckers had established themselves in the eves, and the bees and wasps in the logs. The mice were getting a little too comfortable as well. And in the winter, the deer and elk bedded down on the porch. The fields were overgrown with sage and fallen cotton woods surrounded the Cabin. One night, Andy came down to our home down river and asked us “what do I need to do to make ya’ll buy my cabin.” Over dinner and perhaps a bottle or two of wine, a deal was made. And today, Andy no longer owns the Cabin, but the bank does. A friend suggested that we consider renting the property on VRBO to assist with mortgage payments. So, we did. A decision which we have not regreted. We havef thoroughly enjoyed hosting and meeting our guests through the years.
What makes this Cabin unique
As you will notice walking through the Cabin, there are a number of antiques as well as unusual pieces of “art." To Sandy’s occasional frustration, Turner is a collector of interesting things – everything has value and a place in Turner’s world. Turner collects many of these curios at auctions. In addition to displaying his finds in the Cabin, he has done the same in our home down river. If you are interested in purchasing anything in the Cabin or are interested in what treasures may be down river, please let us know. Sandy has put her foot down - to continue to collect, Turner must let some things go. Also, we invite our repeat guests to leave their mark on the Cabin by affixing their “brand.” Brands require some thought and imagination. Brands are more than just initials. In the Cabin is an edition of the Colorado Brand Book to give you ideas. Turner has acquired miniature branding irons consisting of letters and numbers, and he will assist you in affixing your brand to the Cabin. If you already have a registered brand, let us know.
