Matt and Lauren met and were married five years ago in New Jersey. Lovers of the outdoors and avid skiers, they decided to purchase the Red Tail House as a respite from their busy work weeks in NYC. They own two rescued mutts and often take family and friends to the house on weekends all year round.
Lauren Jacobson purchased this house in 2012
We fell in love with this property primarily for its mountain views. It's intoxicating to sit on the deck or inside the house and look out over the mountains. The peace of being with nature has a healing effect. We have been walking the 5.5 mile loop in the Hollow for two years now and it gets better every time.
We love that we can have the remote feel on the private acreage without being far from activities! The town of Dorset has great people and great food. Manchester has great everything else, as well.
What we love best is that whether we are feeling indoors-y or outdoors-y, the relaxation and peace seems to penetrate you whether you are relaxing by the fire looking over the mountains, or 'playing' outside.
We bought this property, have furnished it and cared for it without the intention to rent it. However, we believe it is a place that should be shared. And, hey, we have a mortgage to pay!
Its the fact that this house and location has everything we love all in one place that has caused us to fall in love. The house itself is beautiful in side. Pretty, open and cozy.
Stunning views, tranquil setting, great for large gatherings. Decorating was fabulous. This house should be in a magazine. Pictures don't do it justice! Lauren was very helpful. Can't wait to return
It felt like "home for the holidays." They even had a Christmas tree all lit up and decorated. Everything we wanted or needed was at hand. Thanks so much Lauren and Merry Christmas!
Beautiful cozy home! Very private, up a dead end dirt road. Plenty of room for all of us, kitchen well stocked, plenty of wood for the fireplace. The views were amazing. The beds were cozy. Plenty of towels provided for all. We had a great time and can't want to return next year. Thank you for opening your beautiful home up to us!
Our family of three generations enjoyed five days on a colorful Autumn weekend. This rental is well maintained and designed. We cooked a turkey dinner, grilled, enjoyed the view from the porch and visited nearby sights. Comfortable beds and furniture for all but this house has stairs which may be limiting. The upstairs bath has a very small shower. The one lane long driveway is off a dirt road. No cell service but wifi ok. More towels and more house and local contact information would have been helpful.
We stayed here with our family for our sons wedding nearby. The house is as beautiful as the photos, provided a wonderful space for us all to be together and relax. Got excellent steaks and salmon from the Dorset Union store and grilled out on the porch the night before. Perfect vacation getaway, very private yet easy drive to nearby attractions, restaurants, hiking and swimming.
Owners very responsive and friendly. Gardens lovely, house well maintained, beds comfortable. Only suggestion would be more towels and a working toaster.
A private country home way up high in the mountains at the end of a dirt road all by itself with views of mountains and the valley, comfortably fit 4 couples for a ski weekend. Rooms are comfortable and well decorated, kitchen spacious and sofa/chairs facing the fireplace, dining room table for 8-10. Good value. Would return in a heartbeat.
