|Space||550 sq. ft.|
|Minimum Stay||5 nights|
This 550 sqft colonial apartment will keep you super comfortable during your stay in Cuenca. Enjoy the comforts of a home for what you’d pay for an average hotel (where all you get is a room with a bed and bathroom)!
Following the description of this apartment (at the bottom) is a 'checklist' of things you might consider when examining other properties. Be sure to look it over so you get the RIGHT FIT FOR YOU!!!
Now, about this apartment.....
Situated in a historic building located in the heart of El Centro. Everything you want is just steps outside your door.
* Short stroll to the Cathedral and Parque Calderon.
* EZ walk to large Mercado featuring local grown fruits and vegetables plus meats and seafood.
* Lots of eateries from cheap $3 lunches to upscale restaurants.
* Pharmacies, medical/dental offices, and hospital all nearby.
* Want a taxi or a bus? They're ripe for picking anywhere you happen to be in El Centro.
* Nearby is the flower market and a plaza lined with Otovalan vendors selling beautiful fabrics, clothing, shawls, scarves, tapestries, etc.
The apartment has been completely remodeled with new flooring, plumbing, toilet, furniture, paint, bed, etc etc.
The living room is long and spacious, outfitted with a love seat, single-sofa-chair and work (ugh!) desk. Enjoy the wall-mounted flat screen TV (with HDMI ports so you can watch (even USA TV stations!) from your laptop), or more than 100 DVD's of your choosing to play on the DVD player.
The bedroom is large with a Queen bed, full bath, and built-in closet. There's an additional desk in the bedroom as well.
The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you’ll need (except food!)…6-burner gas cooktop/oven, microwave, toaster, toaster oven, blender, coffee maker, food processor, and tall refrigerator. Coffee/tea, condiments, cooking oil and spices are also provided.
Need to do laundry? No problemo as you have your own washer AND dryer (rare here) in the apt. OH!! A cell phone AND internet are provided, too!
Yet another feature is the rooftop terrace (exclusive for my guests only) with table and chairs, and great views daytime or nighttime.
Availability: Please consult the online calendar for dates available vs booked. I keep my calendar current at all times.
Pricing: You'll find the daily cost of this apartment to be LESS than an average hotel here in Cuenca, especially when you consider the additional expenses of eating out all the time. AND, if you stay a month or longer, you'll get a significantly discounted month-rate, saving you even MORE money!! Ask yourself..."How many nights would I get for the same price, if I stayed at a hotel?”
FULL DISCLOSURE: This building (as is 95% in Cuenca) does not have an elevator. The apartment requires a 2-flight walk-up.
When you arrive in Cuenca, I will pick you up at your arrival point (whether that be the airport, bus terminal, or van service), bring you to the apartment, give you a short orientation, answers any questions, and hand over the keys!!
A CHECKLIST WHEN VIEWING OTHER PROPERTIES
* Location. Can you walk to most everything you'll want to do, or do you always need to take a taxi or bus?
* Does the unit have hot water at the kitchen sink, bathroom sink (rare here), and piped to the shower?
* Does the shower have direct-piped hot water, or one of those electric shower-heads that produce only lukewarm water (known as 'widow-makers')?
* Does the unit have an oven or just a cooktop?
* Does it have both a washer and dryer INSIDE the unit?
* Does it have a tiny fridge like a college dorm room? Is it sitting on the floor where you darn near have to get on your knees to get anything?
* If 2 people are sleeping in the same bed, can they walk around both sides of the bed? Is the bed FULL or QUEEN?
* Is the bed(s) located in the SAME space as the living room (like a Studio)?
* Does the furniture look comfortable or is it rigid and formal and/or crammed together in a tiny space?
* Does the kitchen provide all the tools, gadgets, and small appliances you'll want to 'get the job done'?
These kinds of things can make the difference between an 'okay' experience and a great one. Closely examine the photos in each listing and look for details in the descriptive write-up.

I am originally from the Seattle, WA, USA area. I've lived in Cuenca since early 2011.
This apartment has a very good location, it's in the 10 meter from the market just outside the door and hundred meter away the Carolic church is located, some good restaurants is just around the corner. The apartment was equipped with everything we needed for kitchen including a starter kit like coffe, salt, sugar, spices, marmelads, I believe this apartment and host is the best ever. My wife, was so pleased and happy to stay in this very clean and spotless aparment.
Dano, thank you for this time, my wife specially like to thank you for the cleanness We will be back
This apartment is a great value for the money spent. It was very clean, the kitchen had everything we needed to cook our own meals, and it's in a great location. The host Dano was VERY helpful and friendly. We appreciated him very much! I would definitely recommend this place. Thank you Dano!
The apartment was really great! You are in the heart of Old Town Quenca.. There is so much going on, so much history and so much culture right at your doorstep.
The river walk is amazing. Lots of wonderful restaurants.
The owner Dano was superlative. He had great amenities in in the apartment. He was helpful and truly a great guy..
I totally recommend this Apartment.
Thanks for a great time - in your wonderful city.
We enjoyed the condo very much - close to all the sights and lots of great restaurants. Easy to walk to everything / comfy bed / Dano - (the landlord) was very helpful.
The apartment met our needs perfectly. The living area and bedroom were really spacious despite how they looked in the pictures. The kitchen was a little small and was a bit short of counter space. The location was perfect being near the Mercado, Parque Calderon and all sorts of other neat places. It was a delight being met every morning by the vendors outside the apartment's entrance as well as by the patients in the dental office all of whom had big smiles as we passed. Dano was always very prompt in responding to any of our needs.
This small quite well equipped apt. is conveniently located in a quiet central area known as “El Centro”, a block from the cathedral. The landlord has a very informative 55 page binder of everything you would need to know re: the apt., Cuenca and places to visit in the area. Despite its central location, San Francisco plaza was probably the least attractive plaza we saw in Cuenca, as it is over 2/3 full of vendors selling mostly junk and garbage is often seen in the laneways. Also, all the vendors’ stalls are covered with tin roofing making the plaza look more like a squatter’s village. In addition, there are at least 25 Otovalan vendors that flank the front entranceways of numerous businesses on the side of the plaza where this apt. is located. This meant that we always had to pass by sellers in close quarters every time we entered or exited the apt. Although the Otovalans are lovely people, we got tired of being asked, “poncho, blankets?” every time we walked through the plaza. We ended up walking the long way around the block to the north on Sucre in order to avoid most of the plaza. As you can see, there are no photos of the front entry to the building nor does the ad disclose that you have 4 flights of stairs to climb up to the apt. Also, we were not happy with the level of cleanliness in this apt. (apparently the landlord, who was not the owner, cleaned it himself). Another issue was that all three apts. in this building were paying basically the same rent, although ours (apt. 2) had only about 1/2 the living space of apts. 1 and 3. We (a senior couple) stayed here for 25 nights which started to seem crowded after 2 weeks; a shorter stay here would have been more pleasant.
If we visit Cuenca again, we would pre-book a place for one week and then do our own apt. hunting which would eliminate paying a “middleman,” who add their margin on top of the owner’s rent. Although booking online is convenient and reassuring, this service does add a significant cost.
This is a long overdue review for Dano's place. I stayed at Dano's June of 2016 5 days and we had an amazing time. The apartment has all the things you need for any length of time you plan to stay in Cuenca. Being Ecuadorian-American I was looking for place near the historic center of Cuenca. The apartment is right in the heart of the historic center located behind the cathedral with shops, bars and restaurants within walking distance. Dano is a true host through and through always available to answer your questions via email. However, there is also the "bible" a binder which Dano has put together over the years which literally has the all the information one might need for a short or long stay in Cuenca. Dano is very detail oriented so for those of you like myself who are into details researching planning and organizing you will love all the information the Bible has the offer. The neighborhood during the day is buzzing with people selling souvenirs, clothes, accessories and other items in the market located in front of the building. At night time the area is kind of desolated so use your better judgement when walking around. Please don't be pulling out smart phones and expensive cameras when you don't have too. Dano will provide you with a simple cell phone to make and or send texts messages. However, upon my stay I felt very safe again because being from NYC you always gotta use your better judgment. Dano thanks a lot for being a great host. Til next time Amigo!
