Enjoy the comforts of a home for what you’d pay for an average hotel (where all you get is a room with a bed and bathroom)!
Following the description of this apartment (at the bottom) is a 'checklist' of things you might consider when examining other properties. Be sure to look it over so you get the RIGHT FIT FOR YOU!!!
Now, about this apartment.....
Situated in a historic complex, this unit is set in the back away from the busy street where you can enjoy QUIET!
The unit has two bedrooms plus one bath (with shower), a living area with a flat-screen TV and DVR (plus lots of DVD’s!!), stereo, and a laundry porch with full-sized washer AND dryer (IN the unit, not located somewhere else in the complex).
The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you’ll need (except food!)…gas cooktop/oven, microwave, toaster, blender, coffee-maker, toaster oven, and tall refrigerator. Coffee/tea, condiments, cooking oil and spices are also provided. OH!! A cell phone AND internet are provided, too! Hot water at ALL outlets.
All this within steps of the heart of Cuenca, the old colonial ‘El Centro’ district.
Though this apartment is technically 2 bedrooms, one is used as a dressing room where the closets have been relocated. The bed in the primary bedroom is a Queen. The bed is NOT located in the same space as the living room (like some other rentals)!!
• Located along the Tomebamba river, greenbelt, and a short walk to El Centro ‘old town’ Cuenca
• Near a large, recently renovated park (Parque de la Madre) and new Planetarium.
• 4 blocks to a major supermarket
• Pharmacies, medical/dental offices, and hospital all within about 6 blocks
• 5 blocks to the soccer stadium
• Want a taxi? A bus? 1 block and you’re set.
Availability: Please review the online calendar. I keep my calendar current at all times.
Pricing: You'll find the daily cost of this apartment to be less than an average hotel here in Cuenca, especially when you consider the additional expenses of eating out all the time. AND, if you stay a month or longer, you'll get a significantly discounted month-rate, saving you even MORE money!! Ask yourself..."How many nights would I get for the same price, if I stayed at a hotel?”
FULL DISCLOSURE: Like most older buildings in Cuenca, there is no elevator. The unit is located 3 levels up. Also, to walk to the El Centro requires walking up a set of stairs across the river. If you have walking/climbing issues, you might consider my other listing (Modern Luxurious Loft apt…).
When you arrive in Cuenca, I will pick you up at your arrival point (whether that be the airport, bus terminal, or van service), bring you to the apartment, give you a short orientation, answers any questions, and hand over the keys!!
A CHECKLIST WHEN VIEWING OTHER PROPERTIES
* Location. Can you walk to most everything you'll want to do, or do you always need to take a taxi or bus?
* Is the unit above a busy street with noisy busses, honking horns, and car alarms invading your space?
* Does the unit have hot water at the kitchen sink, bathroom sink (rare here), and shower?
* Does the shower have direct-piped hot water, or one of those electric shower-heads that produce only lukewarm water (known as 'widow-makers')?
* Does the unit have an oven or just a cooktop?
* Does it have both a washer and dryer IN the unit?
* Does it have a tiny fridge? Is it sitting on the floor where you darn near have to get on your knees to get anything?
* If 2 people are sleeping in the same bed, can they walk around both sides of the bed? Is the bed FULL or QUEEN?
* Is the bed(s) located in the SAME space as the living room?
These kinds of things can make the difference between an 'okay' experience and a great one. Closely examine the photos in each listing and look for details in the descriptive write-up.
I'm originally from the Seattle, WA, USA area. I've lived in Cuenca since early 2011.
This was a great apartment with lots of room and very well (URL HIDDEN) had a full size oven and microwave as well As a toaster oven and there were spices and condiments and essentials such as coffee , sugar ,tea etc. The location was great ,across the street from Rio Tomebamba where there was a walking path and a block away from Parque De La Madre where the locals gathered nightly for their exercise class or use the gym equipment ..all outdoors and for free ! It was only a 10 minute walk to the old centre of Cuenca . It was quiet after 9pm and also quiet in the mornings
This worked well for us. May be the best part of town... We are able to climb a lot if stairs, which might be hard for some. We had a great time.
Dan has a nice apartment that has everything needed for a comfortable stay. Location is good for seeing the historic area as well as the more modern area and convenient to park, river, grocery store, etc.
We have rented a lot of apartments and this definitely the best equipped. The kitchen was stocked with all the condiments and spices you need. All you need to is run over to the close SuperMaxy to pick up your food.
The appliances were new and all worked very well. The location in new town just across the bridge from El Centro was great. There are all lot restaurant within an easy walking distance. Dano has produced a. Book,he calls the "Bible" and has pretty much everything you need to about Cuenca.
We would certainly stay here again.
I thought the apartment location was perfect. In 1 month, I only took one single taxi! And that was because I forgot to take my umbrella. The apartment is close to everything I need: Supermaxi groceries, gym, Olympic swimming pool, park with jogging/walking track, (and the dentist ... I got my teeth cleaned and checked for $30)! Especially convenient was discovering that I could live stream Fox News and CNN on my laptop. In fact, I never even turned on the TV the month I was here. The kitchen complete with oven and microwave besides a nice gas cook top were perfect. All in all, I had a great stay and the apartment, especially the location, was terrific.
We really enjoyed staying at this apartment for a week. It is fully furnished with everything we needed to make us comfortable. And the kitchen has more appliances than I do in my apartment!
This apartment lived up to its billing. This was our first trip to Cuenca and the location was perfect: On the Tomebamba, and an easy, short walk across the river into old town. Being just outside of old town spared us some of the heavy traffic, congestion, and noise you can get there.
There's no elevator, but the 3 flights of stairs (45 steps) were not a problem for us. The stairs up to old town (82 of them!) were also not a problem for us, but might be for others. Because old town is on higher ground, though, it is hard to find a place where you can avoid climbing some stairs.
The apartment is clean, comfortable, well-stocked, and secure, and Dano is a great host. He met us at the airport on a Saturday night, at 8PM, in a freak rainstorm, helped us with our bags, drove us to the apartment, and helped us get settled in. He provides a local cell phone for his guest's use, and it was an invaluable aid as we had organized lots of meetings and appointments during our stay. The wifi works great, there's a Supermaxi nearby for grocery shopping, and we were easy walking distance to good restaurants, cafes, and sights to see. When we ran low on gas for the water heater and dryer, and my non-existent Spanish wasn't up to ordering a delivery, Dano dropped what he was doing and brought us a full tank. That's great service!
This was our first trip to explore the possibility of emigrating to Cuenca. Dano's apartment was a great base from which to explore the city. We would recommend it to other singles or couples looking to experience Cuenca.
