About Rhonda Smit

We started vacationing in Paradise about 8 years ago and fell in love with this beautiful area. We live in Wolverine where we built, own and operate a log bed & breakfast called Silent Sport Lodge. We plan to move here someday but would love to share it with others until that time comes.

Rhonda Smit purchased this house in 2013

Why Rhonda Smit chose Michigan

Whitefish Bay typically is not as wild as many people believe Lake Superior is. It's actually a safe harbor for the ships that travel thru the Soo Locks in Sault Sainte Maire. The house faces east so the sunrises are worth getting up for and many mornings the water is nearly flat. We do have some nice wave sounds most days and sometimes even at night. The sandy shallows along the shore are great for playing in and you can walk for miles on the beach.

As advertised - Truly Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed here as part of our summer adventure visiting all five Great Lakes. As our trip unfolded we found ourselves in several rentals and a few hotels each unique.

The Smit's home was, hands down the best of the best! From the time we made our reservation and throughout, Rhonda was a pleasure to rent from. And the home, was that... Home. From the minute we walked in, it was perfect. A great family layout! From the private beach to the cozy bedrooms, everything is well maintained and as advertised.

The local community placed us in a great central area with accessibility for wonderful day trips from Munising to the Soo Locks (though we didn't do the latter). Stunning daily views, sunsets and moon/star gazing with a great telescope provided which was a special treat for the kids (and daddy).

If your looking for quiet and comfort, and perhaps some adventure in the UP, there's a simple answer - Paradise!

Thank you John and Rhonda for sharing this wonderful home with our family!

Paradise, Indeed!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week at A Superior Paradise! The home was lovely, the kitchen well equipped and the furnishings were very comfortable and homey. The view from the house and large deck was spectacular. We loved seeing the freighters in the bay and even watched fishermen getting their morning catch. The house is in a very quiet location, not far from town. The sandy beach was very close to the house, the water surprisingly warm, and fairly shallow for quite a distance out from shore. Besides enjoying the beach and relaxing on the beautiful deck, we hiked the trails at Tahquamenon Falls State Park, visited the Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point, and the Crisp Point Lighthouse. We also enjoyed the food at the local restaurants and the brewery at the Upper Falls. We would highly recommend a stay at this beautiful home.

Relaxing and Peaceful in Paradise

  • 5 of 5

All I can say is we were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful wooden interior home on Lake Superior. The last cabin we rented in Cold Harbor, MI. had no doors to the bedrooms and barely slept two couples. The house was nice and spacious with plenty of room for 6. We went in September because we like the cooler weather and although there is no TV, the radio station we found was perfect for baby boomers and really didn't watch any movies because the scenery was too magnificent to avoid. We were 10 min. from the Shipwreck Museum, rented ATV's for the ride to Crisp Point (another lighthouse), our husbands went on a fishing trip one day, while the girls went to Mackinaw Island. The kitchen and bathrooms are well supplied and there's a washer and dryer if you need clean clothes. The house was beautifully and lovingly decorated. We loved the town of Paradise, everyone was helpful and friendly. We found plenty of things to do during the day and at night even with the doors and windows closed could still hear the waves of Lake Superior which made for wonderful sleeping. Thank you for sharing your house with us.

Superior Paradise indeed! Beautiful home, private beach, close to everything you'd want to see. The only thing you need to pack will be your clothes. The kitchen and bathrooms have everything. Thanks for sharing your lovely home, I can't wait to come back.

A week in Paradise !

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I and his cousin and her husband stayed here for a week and what a beautiful place. The pictures do not do this property justice. It is so much more! We had everything we needed including the sandy beach right off the huge deck. We spent nearly every night around a fire and with the sun staying up so long, also watching ships across the lake. Paradise was also a surprise. What a great little town, especially the Berry café and bakery, Browns fish house and Paradise take out pizza. Everyone there was so friendly also. We will never forget our time there and the beautiful places to visit like the upper and lower falls, crisp point light house, white fish bay and much more. Thanks for providing us with a wonderful property and being such nice owners to talk to.

We have stayed with John and Rhonda for 3 years in Wolverine. This new place in Paradise is equally beautiful and nice. There are numerous sightseeing opportunities, photographic settings, beautiful beaches and space to relax. We had a wonderful time in the newly renovated cottage right on the waters edge.
