This beautiful home is conveniently located at Dalton Ranch Golf Club. Close to the Animas River, only 10 minutes to town, and 20 minutes to ski, this home is a great place to spend your next Durango vacation. This spacious home features a full living room with large flat panel TV. An array of games and puzzles are stocked to keep the kids entertained and there is also a desk in case you need to get some work done. The separate dining room features a dining table for 6. You will find everything you need in the well-stocked kitchen to prepare wonderful meals during your stay. The master suite has a King bed and with a private full bath featuring a luxurious jetted soaking tub, large separate shower, double vanity and large closet. It also has its own private fenced yard and small patio. Upstairs on the second floor you will find two bedrooms both with Queen beds. There are 4 Twin beds in the loft for additional sleeping options. Enjoy the fresh mountain air and views of the spacious yard while sitting on the back deck. A garage is available for one vehicle and there is plenty of room in the driveway for more.

Beautiful house, pictures dont do it justice.

Experience was great, stay was lovely. Had a restful sleep every night, beautiful neighborhood took a nice walk in the morning to the river and back. Only a few things could make it better: Cleaning fee should be non existent or minimized to $50. Might want to get someone to check the bottom floor for bugs. There were a lot found by the back door, and a few found on kitchen counter and in the downstairs bathroom. I do not know if they mop the floors prior to someone else’s stay, but there was pee in the corner by the back door. We just avoided those areas and were perfectly fine. Very cozy fireplace where we spent the most of our time playing uno and some of the other games they had.

Owner's Response: As we mentioned about the bugs, they are called Box Elders and they are all over the Durango area. They are completely harmless. As far as the cleaning fee we have to clean the home after your stay. I am sure you want to come into a clean home, as do other guests after you leave. It takes at least 8 hours to clean a home of this size, so the cleaning fee is completely reasonable. I am not sure if you are referring to a spot outside, but the floors inside the home were completely clean and it was checked the day of your arrival and there was nothing on the floors inside the home. If the spot was outside we cannot control where other people let their pets make a mess.

Perfect place to stay. Close to town and wildlife

We truly enjoyed the Horse Thief House. Traveling with two adults and four kids the house fit us perfectly. The kitchen was well kept and stocked with all of the essentials (cups, plates, pots, pans, some spices and more).

Saw wildlife right in the backyard! Quite the place. Thanks for letting us stay!

Nice house in a nice location. It was close enough to hear the Durango Silverton train whistle but not overly so. Quiet and comfy. We saw the local deer wandering around! Easy to book and arrange with the owner, reasonable rates. We had a great weekend there, being minutes from town in one direction, and the wonderful roads for motorcycling in the other. We noticed several discrepancies that the owner needs to take up with their management company: burnt out lightbulbs, screen door repaired with tape, a dead mouse in a trap (expected though), lamps with no on/off knobs necessitating unplugging to turn off, and a few dishes returned to the cupboard with stains. Small details are what kept this review from being excellent to merely good.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback. We checked all the lamps at the home and found 2 lamps, one on the desk and one in the living room that have broken switches. They do work just fine and all other lamps in the home are fully functional and there are multiple other light sources than the 2 lamps with broken switches. We keep our property managers information in the home and had we received a call we could have pointed you to the back up supply of light bulbs. We do apologize that you found a mouse in a trap in the garage but being that we are in a mountain environment mice are something we have to deal with in all of our properties which is why we place traps. Our water in the area is also quite hard, which is why even though dishes are clean they can look very spotty.

Summer in Durango!

This was our second time to stay in this house, first time in 2013. It's our cycling team's annual mountainbike trip, this time two adults and six teenagers ranging from 15-18. The location is perfect, on most days we rode our bikes to local trails that are within 10 miles from the house. We cooked breakfast every day and dinner most nights, adequate facilities and gadgets for that. We just had one van, the garage was roomy for our bikes and their daily maintenance. Having laundry on site is also huge as we all went through both cycling togs and street clothes every day.

Durango is full of cool local eateries and bike shops, big grocery store 7 miles away and smaller one just outside the subdivision entrance. The boys all enjoyed jumping into the ice cold Animas River at nearby Bakers Bridge swimming hole each day after riding. This house suits the size of our group and our specific needs very well, expect we'll be back in the future.

Great home away from home

This house was perfect for our 3 generation family ski vacation in Durango. Plenty of room, well stocked with towels and kitchen items. The house was tastefully decorated and well-maintained. Great to have a garage for the vehicle in the cold weather and a washing machine/dryer. Quiet neighborhood with great access to the main road for trips into town or to the mountain.
