Keywords: Small family resort
We have owned this property for 34 years. After raising 2 kids that have moved on with all the great memories of the lake we have decided to actively rent the cabins.
Bob Payette purchased this cabin in 1981
Year Purchased: 1981
It is only 2 hours from the west side of the cities and my wife and I fell in love with the waterskiing, boating and snowmobiling around the Gull Lake area.
The resort is at the north end of Gull Lake near Zorbaz and Bar Harbor. Just a mile down the road is Fritz Loven Park with hiking trails and a cute trout stream. Nisswa shopping and the Paul Bunyon Trail are only 6 miles away. There is easy access to the Lake and sometimes it's fun to just sit on the dock, fish for Sunnys and watch the boats go by.
My family and I really enjoyed our stay! The cabin is located among a few other cabins, this is the smallest cabin.
The Good: The location! It's nice to find a place so close to lake access. The owner provided kayaks, paddle boat and row boats, which is a big plus. There are multiple docks to fish off from. There is a small gradual beach perfect for kids (not to many weeds for the first 10 feet or so). The owners of the resort are nice people and fun to chat with. The cabin was supplied with most things a kitchen needs, silverware, dishes, pots, pans, mugs, glassware, coffeemaker, microwave, etc.
The Cabin: The cabin is older, built in the 40's but updated at some point. Everything works fine; hot water, water pressure is good, plenty of lighting, and window AC. There is a TV and wifi too. The inside isn't anything exciting but it has the charm of an campground you might have gone to when a kid.
The Cabin layout: The cabin has a living room\kitchen\dinning nook and separated bedroom. The bathroom is connected the bedroom, something you should consider: "Will it be OK with you for others in your party to walk through the bedroom at night or during the day?" Also the bathroom did not have a door, only a curtain, so there is a little concern with privacy and (ehmmm) noises from the bathroom. We managed OK because we had small children and we used the bedroom door for privacy, but not sure how I would feel using the bathroom with a friend sleeping in the room just beyond a curtain. (Like I said we managed because we were a family with small kids, but I just though others may want to know before things get awkward )
We liked our stay and plan to be back again this year.
I planned a Girls Weekend at this Resort. We had to search out the owner when we got there and he wasn't very friendly to us. But we noticed when the people across from us arrived that the owner was out there talking to the men in the group for a long time giving them all kinds of information about the resort. We were told nothing and he was very unfriendly towards us. I guess because we didn't have any guys with us. The cabin was small. The beds were very uncomfortable. We had trouble with the TV and DVD player and called the owner and he sent his wife to fix it. His wife was very nice and helpful. So, if your not a guy I would recommend this property. Even though we didn't enjoy our stay we left our cabin in awesome condition for the owners and we were nice and quiet the whole weekend. Its not like we were there partying the whole weekend.
Great little place. Perfect location on the Gull Chain. Owner was very nice, accommodating, and responsive. The cabin is rustic, but clean...exactly what we wanted.
FIVE STARS! We had driven by the Holiday Resort in the past and always thought it looked like a nice and fun spot. This year we rented the 1 bdrm and it was perfect for our family of four! We also rented the Winnebago for our nephews and grandma and that was great also (see that review separate VRBO Listing #712198). The weather was great so we spent a lot of time on the water, when we weren't out in the boat our sons (both under 10) and our nephews 13 and 16 were on the dock and the water trampoline. The cabin was stocked with cooking utensils and everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. The owners were a delight and very responsive and helpful with everything. We are looking forward to another visit back! They do have recycling at the cabin as well.
We had an amazing time here. The cabin was small, but just right for my husband, myself and our 15 and 10 year old girls. They loved swimming near the dock and jumping on the water trampoline all just a very short walk down to the water from our cabin. We enjoyed fishing from the dock while they swam! We cooked on the grill, provided by the owners, several nights and had good rest at night! The cabin was comfy for us all and there was just enough room! The woods were beautiful and the location perfect! The owners were very nice and easy to talk to if we needed anything, yet they never seemed to want to intrude!
Went to this property sight unseen thanks to VRBO. The owner was very responsive by both phone and email. It was the perfect summer getaway. Even though the cabin we stayed in was small, 4 of us (3 adults, 1 child) we were comfortable. The kitchen was definitely adequate. The highlights included: swimming area, trampoline, kayaks and paddleboat. There was plenty to do to keep adults and kids busy. I highly recommend this property.
