About Carolina Boardman
I adore Costa Rica, and nothing gives me more pleasure than sharing my adopted home with people who love nature and a quiet space to rejuvenate.
Carolina Boardman purchased this House in 2001
Why Carolina Boardman chose Cantón Carrillo
I traveled Costa Rica for months by myself, looking diligently for a place that I could someday retire to. Lomas del Mar provided the tranquility, the security, and the natural beauty that I had been seeking.
What makes this House unique
Views to die for, a cacophony of sounds from the wildlife, warm breezes, proximity to the beach without the chaos of the beach town life. This and so much more characterizes Casita Carolina and Lomas del Mar.

Met and exceeded all expectations!
Hoping for a relaxing vacation in a very beautiful environment. Well, that is exactly what we found. The house was wonderful, fully stocked and comfortable. The porch was the ideal place to have our meals while observing the ocean as the boats traveled around the coastline. Sitting on the porch we were often visited by howler monkeys, white faced monkeys, and all sorts of beautiful, colorful birds.
We enjoyed a short 7 minute drive to a beautiful beach and always stayed for sunset. We even had the opportunity to see the baby sea turtles released into the ocean on more than one occasion.
Nearby we found lots of choices for good food, especially the soda in the next town. The town of Coco was busy with lots of activity, food and shopping as well as a terrific market. Our favorite roadside produce stand was also near Coco,
Both Mugs and Wanda were so helpful with suggestions of where to find whatever we needed. And their directions were spot on. We got wifi with our car but never really needed it. And the wifi in the house was perfection.
Gorgeous Views from this Beautiful Home
Our stay at Casita Carolina far exceeded our expectations and we can't wait to go back! Our family of 5 (2 adults, a 10 year old and 6 year old twins) were warmly greeted by Kristin the morning we arrived. She showed us around the property and gave us some helpful tips of activities and the best places to shop for groceries. We ended up grocery shopping at the stores in Playa Coco (about a 20 minute drive) and cooking most of our meals at the home. We've stayed at many VRBO's and this was by far, the best stocked kitchen we've ever seen! An added bonus is the amazing view from the kitchen window. The home has 3 bedrooms downstairs with very comfortable beds. Upstairs there is a large kitchen with a breakfast bar and a living room with huge windows with ocean and jungle views. The views from the home are absolutely spectacular. From the upstairs balcony, there are sweeping views of the coastline. Monkeys come and play in the trees right outside the house and we were also treated to the sight of many beautiful birds, lots of iguanas and even a huge toad! The location of the home is great - you are away from the hustle and bustle of Playa Coco, however, just a short drive from many activities. Playa Matapalo is a wonderful beach with calm waves for the kids to swim in and is located about 7 minutes from the home. At that beach, near the Monkey Bar restaurant, you can go see many species of monkeys who come out to play in the late afternoon. Kristin also suggested the nearby Congo Trail Canopy Tour (about a 10 minute drive) to go zip lining. Our whole family spent the day ziplining and we were well taken care of by the guides. After we took a tour of the monkey sanctuary which we'd highly recommend. Playa Ocotal which offers great snorkeling and a fun restaurant, Father Rooster's, is about a 25 minute drive away. The community of Lomas Del Mar, where Casita Carolina, is located also has a beautiful infinity pool just up the hill. Breathtaking views - make sure to see the sunset from there. The home also has a small plunge pool which the kids loved playing in. Overall, if you are looking for a quiet, clean, gorgeous place to stay which is centrally located to many fun activities - this is the place for you! About a 30 minute drive from the Liberia airport and so close to beautiful beaches, zip lining and other activities. We can't wait to come back!
What an amazing place to stay! The pictures just don't do it justice!
Let me first start off by saying that Carolina and Kristin were very easy to communicate with; from booking the reservation down to travel recommendations they were spot on!
When we arrived to the gated community Kristin was there to meet us at the gate. (I do recommend a jeep style vehicle if your going to rent one, the drive to the house is mostly unpaved but just adds to the awesome experience)
Kristin showed us around the property gave us some great info for buying groceries and dining. She was extremely welcoming and helpful!
The house was well appointment. Furniture in good condition and all the things one would need in a home available down to playing cards and games!
We had the pleasure of staying at Casita Carolina for 5 days! Our first morning there were 10-15 howler monkeys in the tree line right in front of the house! The wildlife around the house, insects, lizards, birds, monkeys all made for a fantastic experience. Coffee every morning on the balcony with an ocean view!
If you are looking for a place close to beaches and things to do but not congested with other tourists this place is for you. The safety of the guarded property was a plus!
The community pool boasts a perfect view of the coastline and is great for photographing!
We spent several days adventuring and enjoyed having somewhere quiet to return to in the evening.
We will definitely be returning!
Thank you Mugs and Kristin!

We felt like celebrities!
Gorgeous! The pictures don't capture the feel of the place, which is stunning. The view, the howler monkeys that visit at breakfast, the splash pool for cooling off, two outside areas for lounging. It was amazing.
The house and kitchen was well equipped with everything you'd have at home. A real washing machine! That was a treat. Air conditioning. Nothing was missing.
A great stay!
This is a fabulous spot with a great view, high above beaches in Guanacaste region near Playas del Coco. Monkeys howl daily (you may not see them) and the birds visit every day (you will see a number of interesting varieties). The house is wonderful, well equipped and arranged to enjoy the view. The plunge pool was welcome and well used and the infinity pool is a 5-10 minute walk up the hill to the best vista at the community center and there is no competition for its use. The owner was wonderfully welcoming and full of local tips, and we thoroughly enjoyed her warmth, graciousness, and generosity. Very helpful before and during our trip; she even volunteered to shop for groceries (only for cost of items) for the first night so we had some food for the first morning's breakfast. This is not for people who want to be right on the beach or in a town, and you need a vehicle (for the hills as well as the few miles to things), but there is plenty within 15-30 minutes by car. It was a fantastic fit for the 5 of us, who like being in a special place a little away, and who like having coffee on the veranda in the quiet and the warming sun of the morning overlooking the sea and surrounded by the sounds of unusual wildlife, and who like picking out some local foods for grilling (gas or charcoal options) and eating out some evenings on the same veranda (or at the plunge pool and back patio). Relaxing and rejuvenating, as hoped for.
Beautiful location, amazing views, and a terrific house
Casita Carolina is perfect place to stay in Costa Rica. The house is big, comfortable, and well-stocked. Most everything you use in your house is there, from kitchen utensils to laundry to internet to the TV/Roku.
In addition, the views from the house are unreal. There is just something special about being up in the hills and having an ocean view. A short walk up the hill leads to the infinity pool and a truly spectacular view. The pool is almost always empty, so you get to feel like it is just for you. And the sunsets from up there are a must see.
I highly recommend CC to anyone who is looking to stay in a house, away from the crowds, up in the hills, with wonderful views. This is a certain subset of the vacationing population; people looking for a bustling hotel with people around and nightlife should look elsewhere. For the rest of us, it is a perfect vacation spot.
We loved our stay.
Diamante Eco Adventure Park is right next door. There are a multitude of beaches - all with different attributes - within a 30 minute drive. Very active night life is 20 minutes away at Coco - featuring the new Hard Rock Cafe. A very large variety of dining experiences are available from 5 minutes to 30 minutes distance.
