Owner info

Year Purchased: 2008

About the owner: I woke up one day and realized that I was 50 years old. That was the day that I started living the dream. I had the Wind Rider built, shipped her to Seattle and then sailed her up the Inside Passage and across the Gulf of Alaska. A few years later, I sailed her to Homer. My first sail was in the Straights of Juan de Fuca around the San Juan Islands when I was 20 years old. I grew up in Portland, Oregon listening to the rain and my Dad read Jack London. I remember the Columbus Day Storm in 1964 when the big old Douglas Fir trees surrounding our house were uprooted by the wind. I was mesmerized and have been chasing the wind ever since. Mostly, on Harley-Davidsons. However, the saying 'ride to live, live to ride' has taken on a new meaning now that I am over 50. I love being in the wind. I love the Wind Rider and want you to share in my passion.

Why the Owner Chose Homer, AK, USA:
The Catalina 309 is an easy sail with the in-mast furling main and furling head sail. The 20 hp Yanmar is additional security. The cabin is upscale humble and wraps around me--feeling like home. Especially, with the forced air furnace. After all this is Alaska.

The Unique Benefits at this Yacht:
I love sailing the Wind Rider. The view is different all the time. Equally important is the low fuel consumption and the soft foot print we leave. We can borrow crystal clear water from the glaciers, pick up some fresh oysters from the local farms and bar-b-que the fresh catch of the day. All of it under the midnight sun. It is living the dream.
