About Sherrie Heywood

We built this home in 2006 and did a lot of the interior work ourselves. It is a special place where families and friends can make lasting memories. We live in Portland, Oregon, and have 6 children, 3 of whom are married. We love spending special family time at the cabin as often as we can.

Great Cabin (house!) in the Woods!

  • 4 of 5

Based on my daughter's recommendation, we booked the Heywood Hideaway for three nights between Christmas and New Years. We had a total of eight adults and ten kids, and there was plenty of room for all. This is a very nice, large, modern home, with four bedrooms, three baths, and a game room with some extra bunk beds and a third large screen TV. The open kitchen/dining/living area was great for gathering, and having two large tables for eating worked out just right. There were plenty of the right utensils and cookware in the kitchen, and plenty of refrigerator and freezer space to feed all of us. We had plenty of room for playing board games, sitting and talking, and for preparing meals. Since it was winter, we didn't do as much of the outdoor recreation that was available. We also took advantage of the hot tub after playing in the snow east of Morton one day.

Our only negative notes are that with four adult couples, our 6'4" tall son was not as comfortable in one of the upstairs bedrooms, as the King Bed in the master bedroom was used by our daughter and her 6'5" husband, and my wife and I took the other downstairs bedroom (I'm 6'2"). Apart from that, we had a delightful time, and would certainly consider this for other family gatherings. We interacted with the owners primarily through email or text messages, but they were very easy to work with, and checked with us to make sure that all was going well. For a family that is pretty tech savvy, the WiFi worked well for at least 8 phones and a couple of iPads, but bandwidth is limited, and streaming movies is just not recommended. Mobile phone coverage is spotty, and while one day I could get a connection at the top of the hill near the gate to the community, on another occasion, I had to drive about a mile down the road towards Mossyrock to get a signal.

Homey, comfortable, quiet, and roomy

  • 5 of 5

A growing family of 3 couples and 11 children, we had lots of room and things to do to keep us at Heywood Hideaway for a 3-day Christmas celebration! The rooms are fun-each with its own theme; the playrooms are loaded, the movies, and games, and puzzles kept us laughing for hours! We found all we needed in the kitchen, laundry, and baths for comfort and ease. Lots of trees and a stream to explore around and deer EVERY day in the yard. Hot tub was a hit in the 30 degree weather as well as the sleds in the snow right in the back yard. Sherrie makes the stay clear with great directions and instructions. The house was adequately clean. The pictures are accurate, but don't reveal the roominess of the home. We soooo wanted snow, and Sherrie called us to let us know to have 4WD-thank you for your welcoming attitude and great communication! We wouldn't hesitate to return again if afforded the opportunity!

What a lovely place!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely time at Heywood Hideaway! The house has a nice layout--several chefs in the kitchen were all able to find elbow room. Our large group combined the two tables so that all of us could sit together--a rarity to be able to do that. And Sherrie was lovely to deal with when an unexpected situation arose--gracious and a great property host.

Beautiful home, private

  • 5 of 5

This was a beautiful and spacious home, had plenty of room for everyone. Outdoor seating and fire pit were a hit with the kids, and the jacuzzi was awesome for the adults. The kitchen and dining area were large and accommodated all of us with plenty of room to spare. Very quiet all around, no neighbors in sight. We even saw a deer in the backyard. They had plenty of sports equipment in the garage, played badminton and volleyball on the days it didn't rain.

The only negatives were the oddly elevated lot (hard to play outdoor games on the hill) and no access to the waterfront by walking, which we were hoping for.
