About the property

Oceanfront Home on Private Barrier Island off the coast of Charleston

Dewees Island is a private barrier island off the coast of Charleston that is dedicated to preservation. We are a quick ferry ride from all of Charleston's charms, yet the island is peaceful and serene. Dewees remains in a much more natural state than many ocean islands. At the same time, the island has a beautiful community pool. Great fishing, birding, and beaches. We travel by golf cart. And with no stores or restaurants, Dewees is a magical escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life!

Luxury vacation on private island. With easy access to Charleston's history and culture, you can dine at the finest restaurants downtown and be home for sea turtles hatching on moonlit beaches. This 4 bedroom house has views of marsh, ocean, and maritime forest from every room. Watch the sun rise over the ocean and shrimp boats ply their trade offshore. The house has it all: open gourmet kitchen with high end appliances, all bedrooms with private bath, elegant covered entryway with contemporary stained glass, elevator, airy living spaces with breathtaking views.

Master bedroom with incredible bathroom has views of the ocean and access to fabulous screened porch with hammock and swing. A twin bedroom is also in the main part of the home. Two other private suites (one queen, one twins) are accessible from the airy porch walkways.

Wide porches provide ample relaxing and entertaining space. This home pays meticulous attention to detail: antique heart of pine floors, custom ironwork, comfortable elegant furniture.

About Emily

Emily and Stewart are the proud owners of Dewees Rentals, aka Watson Property Management Group. They are committed to helping residents and guests navigate the tricky balance of living (and vacationing) gently on a barrier island. Emily helped build Dewees Rentals from scratch starting in 2009, and she and Stewart took over ownership in 2014. She manages reservations, interns, and rental homes from her office in Mount Pleasant. With a background in teaching, Emily never dreamed that she would someday own a vacation rental company! When asked why she does what she does she states, "I love connecting with owners and guests alike! There's nothing more gratifying than witnessing guests arriving in one state of mind (coming from their successful and busy lives) and leaving feeling more grounded and at peace with nature." She also keeps tabs on their two curious and energetic kids and large dog. In her spare time, Emily loves cooking, design, music, and yoga. She blogs about healthy recipes and the whirlwind of today's parenting at LittleBabyWatson.com. Stewart is the partner you're more likely to see on the island. With a background in construction, he is better known to be rescuing someone from a tricky golf cart situation or taking on a repair. Between the two of them, there's no stone left unturned on Dewees!

Wonderful Unhurried Family Time

  • 5 of 5

Our family gathered at Conched Out for a long-awaited beach trip to be together to make memories for our grandchildren. We couldn't have chosen a better place than Dewees and this beautiful home. We chose Dewees because it was off the beaten track and provided a unique experience ... private ... quiet ... the ferry ... golf carts ... beautiful ... uncrowded ... relaxed ... unhurried ... no worry! We loved the golf carts for getting around and exploring the island. This was our grandkids first experience seeing the beach and the ocean, and we loved that they will remember just this ... and not the busy beaches with too many distractions. Once you get used to the ferry schedule and planning trips for groceries, you are in for a treat. With Charleston so close, we had all we needed for a great experience. Do not miss the South Carolina Aquarium.

Beautiful Beach Views!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have been vacationing on Dewees for years and we always try to stay at Conched Out. It has the picture perfect ocean views that you can see right from the kitchen and the two level porch. I love the bedrooms and the Mother-In-Law suite. We bring our friends here every summer and we all enjoy the relaxation that the island provides us!

We have stayed on Dewees Island for the past 5 summers and always enjoy our vacation! But we really loved where we stayed this past trip. The home was wonderful and we loved being able to see the ocean.

Beautiful, Luxurious & Relaxing.

  • 5 of 5

Dewees Island is nature at its best. No automobiles. Only golf carts. The shorebirds/seabirds that are everywhere are breathtaking - especially during sunset and sunrise. Love those Roseate spoonbills! The beaches are pristine. Great for walking/running, sitting or playing a game of sand bocci ball. It is an easy in and out to Charleston on the private ferry. However, the house you will not want to leave. It is beautifully decorated, fun to cook in and just plain luxurious. The view is spectacular. Do check out the Dewees Conservancy on the island. They do tours, have educational offerings and offer a lot of fun and informational facts about the island.

Glorious!

  • 5 of 5

I had the opportunity to spend five glorious days on Dewees. Breakfast while watching the spoonbills and dinner on the sheltered porch overlooking the ocean. This is an exceptional, beautifully appointed--big bedrooms, kitchen and family spaces--home. Easy, quick path to the wide open white sand beach. I loved cruising along the wooded paths in the home's golf carts. The pool and community clubhouse are added amenities. And of course being surrounded by undisturbed nature is truly unique. I highly recommend this home and look forward to taking my family back.

Dying to return!

  • 5 of 5

Dewees Island is the perfect get-away for those looking to get away from it all without leaving the US. In some ways, Dewees is like ultra-luxury camping. You need to bring and cook your own food but you are staying in beautiful accommodations with a nicely stocked kitchen, washer/dryer, etc. For our adventurous group, the logistics were fun and not a big deal. The golf carts and accessible ferry made transit easy enough, even with small children and an adult with limited mobility. The residence, Conched Out, was perfect for our extended family and I hope to return! There were multiple picky architects in our group (you know the type) but we all loved the home with its interesting design, open layout, and amazing views. We were worried about finding enough to do on the small island but the ecology is so diverse that we had plenty of entertainment exploring around--by foot, bike, kayaks, canoes, golf carts. Thanks to the owners for sharing their lovely home and for Dewees Rentals for all of the planning advice! Thumbs up!
