Welcome to our Jackson vacation home, located about 2 miles up Carter Notch Road from Jackson's village center and about a mile past the Eagle Mountain House. This four bedroom 2 1/2 bathroom home is situated on 4 wooded acres with winter views up the Wildcat Valley and of Black Mountain with immediate access to the Jackson Ski Touring Center's cross-country trail system. During the summer and fall months, the walking and biking loop of Carter Notch Rd and Black Mt Road is a favorite scenic route. Multiple Jackson-based hiking trails are within a short drive of the house.
The scenic drive back down Carter Notch Road brings you to the charming village of Jackson where you will find multiple eateries, pubs and restaurants that range from romantic to family fun. The village would not be complete without its new post and beam public library, local bakery and post office, and several art galleries and shops. In the center of town you will find the Jackson Cross Country Ski Center which rents ski equipment in the winter and mountain bikes in the summer.
For winter enthusiasts, Wild Cat, Attitash, Black Mountain and Cranmore ski resorts are with-in a 10 - 15 minute drive. In addition, North Conway draws crowds year-round with its outlet shopping, boutiques, outdoor ice-skating, mini-golf arcades and wide array of pubs and restaurants. Although far from any urban hubs, North Conway boasts its own hospital, a mutiplex theater and performing arts at the Eastern Slope Inn Playhouse.
Other activities include hiking trails, Appalachian Mountain Lodge at Pinkham Notch, Mount Washington with it's famous cog railroad and auto road to the summit and for families of all ages, Storyland theme park is a short drive down the road.
The house has a covered front porch as part of its entryway that leads into a well equipped mudroom area with storage for lots of gear. Off the mudroom is a washer/dryer room with a toilet and deep sink area. The modern kitchen area has cherry wood floors, stainless steel appliances, a large island and a side alcove featuring a bar area with fridge and glassware as well as a small desk area equipped with a printer and WiFi modem.
The kitchen opens up into a carpeted great room centered by an very large stone fireplace, beamed ceiling and a balconied second floor. The main living room has large two-story windows, a flat screen TV and lots of seating areas. A large full-size bath sits off the great room.
Two bunk rooms and one small, queen-sized bedroom share the downstairs full bath and overlook the living area. The en suite master bedroom, with a queen-sized bed and sitting area, is off a walk-through study that joins up with the main living room. A french door opens from the great room to an outdoor deck with hot tub on the backside of the house.
We purchased this property as a ski home when our children were just babies and have spent many years skiing the White Mountains. The house is almost unrecognizable from its original state as it has had numerous renovations over the last 15 years. We hope you find it to be as family friendly and welcoming as we do!
Laura Carrigan purchased this house in 2001
A group of us recently stayed here for a leaf peeping weekend getaway. The location was perfect and the house was everything we were looking for. Everything about the listing was 100% accurate. Very close to major attractions but the house itself was up off the road and secluded. The key amenities were the hot tub and fireplace which we totally took advantage of. The house is great for entertaining small groups- girls weekend was ours. Huge island that everyone cant sit around or 3 couches right in front of the fireplace. The owner gave us some excellent recommendations in and about town. We ended up taking an hour trip over to go zip lining and it was SO worth it. ( the ones closest to the house were closed for the season). I would definitely recommend to a friend and I would for sure stay again! Thanks for the memorable weekend. :)
My husband and I recently rented this house with our 2 young children. The house was amazing! It is clean, cozy and private. It is close to everything we wanted to do. The area is beautiful! We would absolutely return to this house for another family vacation!
Family of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids under 5). We had a great time at your beautiful house. The house is very pretty and is nice and quiet set back from the road.
The house is only maybe 60 seconds away from some fun water falls and wading pools that the kids loved. It is also super close to Storyland and 15 mins away from North Conway.
Overall the house was clean and comfortable, was well stocked and was everything we were looking for. If we come back up we will definitely look to stay again.
Jackson, NH is one of the most quaint and picturesque of New Hampshire's villages, and is home to one of the state's most treasured red covered-bridges through which nearly every visitor passes upon entry to the village center. The Wildcat River is Jackson's most predominant feature in any season. It boasts a series of waterfalls, sunning rocks, and nearby trails that make it especially appealing in the summer.
Jackson's village center draws people in with its picturesque scene of eateries, lodgings, a bakery, local post office, post and beam public library, full service hair salon, art shops and beautiful rural views, all in easy walking distance and accentuated by the Wildcat River that runs through the middle of town. Jackson boasts multiple golf courses open to the public (Eagle Mt. House and The Wentworth), a spa and fitness center, and easily accessible hiking trails or nordic ski trails for winter visitors. All of this classic New England ambiance is located only 10 minutes away from the premiere family amusement park attraction of Storyland, 15 minutes from the famed 'North Conway Outlets', 15 minutes from Pinkham Notch's access road to Mt. Washington, and in an area filled with the White Mountains' most scenic and varied hiking trails and rivers. The beauty of Jackson is that you are near everything, but away from it all.
Visitors come from around the world to see the breath-taking foliage during the autumn months. In addition there are apple cider tours in the area, arts and crafts festivals and music events.
For summer travelers, the options for fun in any weather are endless. For families, Jackson is a perfect location to base yourself for trips to such famed amusement parks as Storyland (10 min. from Jackson) or Santa's Village (35 min. from Jackson) or Wildcat Mountain Ski Area's zip line (15 min.), Attitash Ski Area's mountain coaster ride (15 min.), or a trip to the awe-inspiring Mt. Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods (35 min.) where you can test your nerves on their all-mountain zip line adventure, play a round of golf, or just schedule a spa day and then come home to the many restaurants and entertainment options found in the Jackson and North Conway area.
During inclement weather, you'll appreciate the easy access to a wide variety of shopping options in the North Conway area (15 min.) that includes such varied outlets such as J. Crew, L.L. Bean, Nike, Eastern Mountain Sports and Gymboree. The local cinema offers multiple theaters and just released movies. And if you'd rather see live performances, the summer months bring stagings of musicals and plays at the Eastern Slope Inn Playhouse in North Conway. For yet more variety, the Tuckerman Brewing Company offers brewery tours on Saturdays, and the Mt. Washington Valley Children's Museum is open Thursday thru Mondays and even has summer camp weeks for ages 5 - 12. The best place to find out about the myriad of things to do in the Mt. Washington Valley area is on the website: www.mtwashingtonvalley.org.
Some of our recommended area highlights are: outlet shopping on a rainy day (or when you've just had enough of seeing and doing), dining at the Apple Cider Company (without the kids if you can pull it off…), a day (or two) at Storyland (with the kids, of course), a trip to the iconic Mt. Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods (because it offers a scenic ride en route, the hotel is a national landmark, and Bretton Woods is a fun place to spend the day with lots of different activities for all ages), and last (or at least after lunch) a visit to Trails End Ice Cream Shoppe in Bartlett where your ice cream is served caddy corner to a wonderful playground (and if you have kids, you know this is a not to be underestimated feature of adult ice cream enjoyment)!
If you revel in the great outdoors, the options are endless. You can pack a picnic and spend the day swimming at nearby Echo Lake, or if you're more adventurous, schedule a rock climbing lesson through Eastern Mountain Sports, book a rafting, kayaking or tubing trip on the Saco River, or map out a scenic ride to take in the many waterfalls in the area including Diana's Baths in Conway and Glen Ellis Falls in Pinkham Notch. For bicyclists, there are miles of scenic rides of varying degrees of difficulty (contact the Mt. Washington Valley Bicycle Club for more info). If you really want to take in the beauty of the area, hiking is your best option. There are an endless number of hiking trails (easy to very challenging) within a 30 min. drive from Jackson. Check out options for hiking Mt. Washington, the routes located in Crawford Notch State Park, and the nearby trails found in Jackson.
No matter what your day entails (from spa services to taking in the view from the Mt. Washington Observatory) you will be ready to end it in our well-appointed and more than relaxing Jackson home. Enjoy your stay in this special place!
