About Julia Weisenberg
I am a full-time fitness and wellness instructor/coach, originally a professor at Stony Brook University and Suffolk Community College, and a long career in corporate management. I also work with the Deaf & Hard-of-hearing since 1993 as a nationally certified sign language interpreter. I grew up in Shelter Island and raise my family here in the off-season. Shelter Island is my heart and home!
Julia Weisenberg purchased this House in 1974
Why Julia Weisenberg chose Silver Beach
This rental is located in one of the best areas of the island, away from most of the traffic of commuters using the North Ferry as a passage to the Hamptons. We boast three beaches, most within walking, but definitely within biking distance: Crab Creek, Shell Beach, and Silver Beach. In the fall season, you have a view of the bay, and pond in the back woods.
What makes this House unique
Shelter Island provides a way to visit and explore the Hamptons without being overwhelmed with traffic and expense. We are home to one of the most rare and beautiful birds: Osprey. We have excellent restaurants and entertainment, including weekly performances by the Perlman School of Music, down by Crescent. There are many hotels and bars offering live music and dancing during the summer season.

Hit & Miss property - Stayed Sept 6-9, 2018 - Review Sept 10th
Hits- 1- location quiet, 2- walkable to some small beaches, 3- comfortable beds for us (3 couples and one single), 4-many places to 'hang out' 5- modern kitchen & appliances (but no manuals on use) 6- Reasonable rental cost
Misses - We paid in full almost a year in advance for the parents/ family of the groom- wedding Sept 8. Did not hear from the owner, despite inquiring emails in July & Aug asking for reassurance/ confirmation of rental, until Sept. 3rd- which added to pre-wedding anxiety! All communication was the least personable of the 8 HomeAway/ VRBO properties we have rented.
1- SO much someone else's home, we felt like intruders.
(EX: Although many drawers emptied/ space made in closets, etc, rooms were filled with clothes, toys and personal items, which often needed to be moved for our things.)
2- Kitchen - Plenty of plates, silverware & tiny coffee cups- almost no glasses for water/ juice/ milk; few, odd glasses for wine/ beer, lots of Ironware, 1 frying pan (in oven), no small pots, had to root around to find many items. No sugar or salt. I know we provide our food/ drink but other places had these two.
3- BATHROOMS- Advertised 'bathroom w/ shower' (nice but sink had no stopper) & Bathroom w/ tub (very bad shape & could not fill tub as internal stopper broken) & we needed a tub for a husbands medical condition. Outdoor shower right under Kitchen window so NO privacy & thus only good for rinsing in a bathing suit. After towel complaint of another renter, now many bath towels (some new, some threadbare) but only 3 hand towels and 1 washcloth.
4- needed to iron wedding & dining outfits- 2 irons finally found, and search for ironing board ended in garage with items piled on it and cover stained.
5- Small eating table- barely seats 6. Counter had 3 very uncomfortable counter stools
6- No information book. Every other rental we've had provided one with How to's (re: appliances, TV, how to close, etc.) Location of supermarket, pharmacy, hospital, Emergency #'s and Local Sites/ places of interest/ maps.
Here some info sent by text, some posted in Kitchen, some missing (no manuals for kitchen, laundry, etc- took a long time to figure out their tv hookup & complicated remote), Info on recycles incomplete (so at 'dump' had to root through trash to remove paper items), 1 map in a basket of personal items.
We hope this feedback informs not only future renters but the owner on how small changes could improve renter experience.
The house was lovely and the pool was very clean and inviting. The pictures and video describe it perfectly.
Great house. Great owner. Great island. It was a great time!
We were a group of 8 girls visiting the North Fork for wine tour weekend and we loved staying on shelter island. The house had an awesome size kitchen where everyone could gather. The pool was secluded, clean and perfect temperature. Julia was fantastic. I asked a lot of questions, but Julia answered extremely quick every single time. My only advice for future shelter island vacationers is I wish I knew to separate cans, cardboard and glass prior to dropping off recyclables. This was probably outlined in the contract, but I missed it. And separating recyclables on the spot wasn’t fun... but that’s not a reflection on this property (just a note for future shelter island vacationers 😉.) I highly recommend this property!
Scenic and relaxing!
We had the most wonderful time at Julia's home. I booked the home for a relaxing bachelorette party and it did not disappoint! It was spacious, clean, and inviting. We especially enjoyed the pool! Thank you, Julia!
Beautiful property with pool!
The interior of the house is very roomy and comfortably fit 6 of us across the 4 bedrooms. Loved the pool out back and the gorgeous wooded grounds surrounding it.
While the house is in good condition inside, it didn't feel like it's well cleaned and the kitchen cabinets are crammed full with so much cookware and accompanying items, there's no organization to any of it. There are also a lot of old, broken or rusted items that need to be weeded out. Re the towel situation, there was a constant shortage from when we arrived to when we left and many of them were old, thin, tattered and smelled of mildew. There are no beach chairs or umbrellas to use, so we had to buy our own and left them for future renters.
With a few improvements, this could be a truly great rental and a wonderful place to return.
Great space for big family with pool, great location!
Family had a great time, definitely looking forward to renting again!
