Delightful apartment for 2/3 only 75 yards from the sandy beach of Spittal

The Space

This home from home is well appointed with beautiful furnishings (complimentary WiFi, smart TV, dishwasher, washer/dryer etc) and guests can enjoy the private garden and BBQ. This property comes fully furnished including all bedding and towels. Guests are provided with a complimentary seasonal Welcome Basket of local produce (home-made jam, yummy shortbread, local beer etc). The open plan living and kitchen area is furnished with a brand new leather sofa-bed and armchair as well as an oak dining table and four chairs. The bedroom is cosy with a super-comfy pillow-top double-bed and ample storage for all your possessions. The bathroom has separate bath-tub and shower as well as sink, vanity unit and WC and we even provide you with some locally made organic soap

Guests enjoy private and exclusive use of the apartment. The property is a holiday cottage and has been furnished with the needs of discerning travellers in mind

Interaction with Guests

We aim to meet all guests personally; however if we are unable to do so we can leave keys in a coded entry box at the flat so that you can arrive at your convenience. We live about 15 minutes away so in the unlikely event that there are any problems we're always nearby to assist you. We offer complimentary collection for Guests arriving by train at Berwick by prior arrangement

The Neighborhood

The apartment sits just one block back from the beautiful beach at Spittal along a pedestrian lane. Its a wonderful place for a stroll and if you're feeling very brave a dip in the bracing waters of the North Sea! The apartment is in a largely residential area but there are some great pubs to enjoy only a short walk away.

Spittal / Berwick upon Tweed is a historic border town which has retained its individuality and charm with its age-old street market, quaint family run shops and boutiques and authentic pubs and ale-houses. There are many lovely restaurants offering wonderful locally sourced produce including cheeses, game and shellfish. Enjoy exploring the Elizabethan walls or follow in the footsteps of the artist L.S. Lowry and amble along the Lowry Trail. Conveniently located for exploring both the stunning North Northumbrian coastline of Lindisfarne (Holy Island), Seahouses and the Farne Islands Seal Colony as well as the dramatic cliffs and beaches of St Abb's Head Nature Reserve and the old fishing port of Eyemouth. In the immediate area you can also catch some surf at nearby Coldingham beach or don your scuba (email hidden) Abb's Head marine reserve. Try your hand at salmon and trout fly-fishing on the world famous waters of the River Tweed. Visit one of the many great country houses nearby (Paxton House, Manderston House) or perhaps explore the ruined remains of the great border Abbeys at Kelso and Jedburgh. Whatever your pastime be it golf, cycling, off-roading, mountain biking you'll find lots to do.

Getting around

Whilst there is no private parking, on street parking is readily available with no parking charges to pay. Berwick upon Tweed enjoys fantastic direct rail links (London 3.5 hours); Edinburgh (45 mins) and Newcastle (50 mins) and a taxi from the train station will cost $7. There is also an extensive and affordable network of local buses for exploring the local area. For guests wishing to hire a car we will be happy to assist you in arranging this with a local company.

Please note that accommodation is provided in one double bed in the bedroom and one double-sofa-bed in the living area. There is ample space for a travel cot (not provided) in the bedroom for those travelling with infants.

This flat is suitable for the less mobile (one small step to front door, small step into shower, lever taps).

House Rules

Guests can bring one well-behaved dog but we do ask that it be kept off furniture and out of the bedroom. As you would expect the flat is a 100% smoke-free environment but feel free to smoke in the private garden area. We ask that you respect the property as you would your own home and leave it clean and tidy when you leave. The No.1 house rule however is to enjoy your stay and relax!

Located in a quiet area of Berwick, called Spittal, close to the beach and the apartment has been awarded the highest standard by Visit Englan, GOLD. You can bring one pet at no charge and a second pet for a small charge. There are excellent walks along the coast and there is a good local bus service from the nearby general store.

What makes this cottage unique

The town has great communications as there are frequent train services to Edinburgh Stirling and the North and York, London and the South. You can have a super holiday and leave the car behind or bring the bikes and enjoy the many cycle trails, like the new Sandstone Way and leave the cycles in the lockable courtyard area. Local buses connect with Holy Island and the Alnwick Gardens and the coastal fishing villages

Northumberland Coastal path passes along the promenade on the way to Holy Island or fifteen minutes drive to the tidal causeway. Many stately homes and gardens within 30 minutes drive - Paxton House, Manderston, Alnwick Gardens, Bamburgh Castle. Visit the Farne Islands and see puffins and many birds.

A visit to Berwick would not be complete without a walk around the Elizabethan Walls or following the L.S. Lowry artist trailaround both sides of the town and river.

There are beautiful beaches such as Coldingham beach and diving in a marine conservation area around St. Abbs Head.

Visit the Trophy room in Duns, 13 miles away and see the prizes won by World Rally Driver, Jim Clark

If time allows there are many trains to Scotland's capital, Edinburgh and the journey time is only 40 minutes

There is plenty of hot water on demand as the cottage has gas-central heating. There is also a funky high-tec 'hands-free' illuminated mirror and a heated towel rail which ensures that the room is always comfortably heated.

Just had the best week ever .The weather and cottage were superb and the people in Spittal are so welcoming and friendly it really is a home away from home .The beach that is on your doorstep is fantastic for the dogs and they loved every minute of the holiday

In an ideal location less than 1 minute to the beach. Really comfortable apartment, beautifully equipped with all mod cons. Really nice of John to take the time to meet and greet us. We regularly rent cottages and lodges in various parts of the country and we found this one to be of really good quality. Met our expectations. Thanks

Old Templars Hall

Lovely location, lovely little bar on Main Street with an acoustic music night on a Wednesday. Property well maintained and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay even if the people upstairs were adamant we wouldn't have a lie in! Very relaxed time though and we were blessed with great weather!!
